Papers deal with naturally occurring nuclides or with those created and released by man through nuclear weapons manufacture and testing, energy production, fuel-cycle technology, etc. Reports on radioactivity in the oceans, sediments, rivers, lakes, groundwaters, soils, atmosphere and all divisions of the biosphere are welcomed, but these should not simply be of a monitoring nature unless the data are particularly innovative.Research papers are also included which, by either experimental or theoretical approaches, aim towards an improved understanding of the behaviour, transfer and distribution of environmental radionuclides. Predictive modelling is particularly encouraged. Papers on dating methods are acceptable if they have clear geophysical or geochemical significance. A Review Section of Physics LettersThe journal Physics Reports publishes timely reviews which are more extensive than just literature surveys but normally less than a full monograph. Each report deals with one specific subject and is generally published in a separate volume. These reviews are specialist in nature but contain enough introductory material to make the main points intelligible to a non-specialist. The reader will not only be able to distinguish important developments and trends in physics but will also find a sufficient number of references to the original literature.Starting in 2025, Physics Reports will inaugurate a new "Rapid Reviews” section. Rapid Reviews are intended to be shorter reviews, which can be completed more quickly (on order three months) than regular reviews, on exciting new subjects. They are intended to reach a broader audience but go into less technical detail than a regular Physics Reports review. The target length is on order 20 pages (as opposed to regular reviews, which are intended to be more than 50 journal pages) and the reviews are intended to allow more in the way of editorializing than regular articles, which are intended to be more balanced, complete, and pedagogical. Our aim is to improve our capacity to represent, understand, predict or manage the behaviour of natural environmental systems, including air, water, and land components, at all practical scales, and to communicate those improvements to a wide scientific and professional audience.It seeks presentation of: • Generic frameworks, techniques and issues which either integrate a range of disciplines and sectors or apply across a range • Model development, model evaluation, process identification and applications in diverse sectors of the environment (as outlined below) provided they reveal insights and contribute to the store of knowledge. Insights can relate to the generality and limitations of the modelling, methods, the model application and/or the systems modelled. Insights should be ones that are generalizable in some way and are likely to be of interest to those studying other systems and, preferably, other system types. • Development and application of environmental software, information and decision support systems • Real-world applications of software technologies - particularly state-of-the-art environmental software able to deal with complex requirements, conflicting user perspectives, and/or evolving data structures. Aspects related to software usability, reliability, verification and validation should be backed up with quantitative results as much as possible. Development and maintenance costs, and adoption and penetration of the software in the target user groups should be addressed. Licensing issues and open source access should be clearly specified. • Issues and methods related to the integrated modeling, assessment and management of environmental systems - including relevant policy and institutional analysis, public participation principles and methods, decision making methods, model integration, quality assurance and evaluation of models, data and procedures.Authors must specify clearly the objectives of their models and/or software, and report on the essential steps that were used in their development, normally including the rationale for the type of approach selected and substantial testing and evaluation of it - comparisons with alternative approaches and methods are encouraged. The purpose of this specification, evaluation and reporting is to convey the rigour and credibility of the work and therefore its potential to contribute to knowledge acquisition. The Journal of Computational Physics (JCP) focuses on the computational aspects of physical problems. JCP encourages original scientific contributions in advanced mathematical and numerical modeling reflecting a combination of concepts, methods and principles which are often interdisciplinary in nature and span several areas of physics, mechanics, applied mathematics, statistics, applied geometry, computer science, chemistry and other scientific disciplines as well: the Journal's editors seek to emphasize methods that cross disciplinary boundaries.JCP also encourages the submission of papers that develop innovative methods bridging mathematical, physical modeling and algorithmization, e.g. at the frontier between predictive simulation and machine learning. When addressing problems previously covered by other approaches, a comparison should be provided. As for any paper in JCP, the efficacy, robustness, computational complexity, as well as reproducibility should be addressed.JCP also publishes short notes of 4 pages or less (including figures, tables, and references but excluding title pages).
