Antiviral Research
Antiviral Research aims to publish manuscripts in the field of prevention and treatment of viral diseases in humans and vertebrate animals, and encourages authors to the submit manuscripts describing the activity of well-defined chemical compounds for the treatment of viral diseases. The journal is an Official Publication of the International Society for Antiviral Research. The types of papers published in Antiviral Research includes original research reports, short communications, commentaries and invited review* articles on the control of viral infections in humans. All papers must include a sufficiently detailed description of methods to permit other investigators to replicate the experiments. Authors reporting the antiviral effect of a novel small-molecule drug must reveal its chemical structure. Claims of in vitro or in vivo efficacy of a drug or vaccine must be supported by appropriate statistical analysis that must be clearly described in the manuscript.Antiviral Research journal does not publish reports on viral diseases of plants or of insects, crustaceans or other invertebrates. Studies of viral diseases of livestock and companion animals must be clearly related to the development of realistic therapies. Papers on veterinary vaccines should report findings in the target animal species.We discourage the submission of manuscripts reporting the antiviral activity of unpurified natural products, or of partially purified substances of natural origin for which a mechanism of action has not been determined. Manuscripts claiming an antiviral effect of homeopathic products or other highly diluted preparations, or which fail to clearly identify the biological ingredient or molecule responsible for the antiviral activity of an experimental therapy, will not be considered for publication. Articles describing antiseptics with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity will not be accepted. We discourage the submission of in silico docking studies or other computer-based predictions of antiviral activity that are not supported by data from biological assays. Earth-Science Reviews
Covering a much wider field than the usual specialist journals, Earth-Science Reviews publishes review articles dealing with all aspects of the Earth Sciences, and is an important vehicle for allowing readers to see their particular interest related to the Earth Sciences as a whole. Please see example papers below. Our readership is more diverse than that of specialist journals. The editors strive to ensure that reviews, even those that may otherwise appear in discipline journals, are accessible for all readers. Review articles must integrate and advance existing knowledge and highlight new directions by synthesizing, evaluating and discussing previously published literature; the value of such articles is also increased by authors’ own perspectives and comment. Review articles should be authoritative. They may also constitute a detailed introduction to/overview of a subject in a way that, for example, enables a researcher or graduate student to begin work in a new field. Articles may be extensive, providing comprehensive coverage of a broad or cross-disciplinary subject, or they may be shorter yet provide an in-depth overview of a very specific topic. Authors may also include a small proportion of their own new data and analysis, both to demonstrate what is being done at the forefront of an area and to support their arguments, yet regular research articles will not be considered.Submissio... that aggregate previous literature and do not integrate and build on existing knowledge are unlikely to be accepted. Similarly, meta-analyses that do not include a significant review component in the way described above are also unlikely to be accepted. Bibliometric studies will not be considered. Where it is necessary to include bibliometric data in a review, that part of the article must be included in the supplementary information only. Regular research articles are only included in the occasional special issue, where the collection of papers together performs a review function. Review articles that are in practice regular research papers or case studies and that are not in a special issue will not be peer reviewed but will instead be recommended for discipline journals; a transfer option will enable such papers to be transferred quickly and easily to a discipline journal of the author’s choice. Articles on the biological, ecological, soil and agricultural sciences and on geoengineering should be submitted to journals in those fields. Earth-Science Reviews offers authors the rare opportunity to explore a particular subject without any limitation on the number of words used. We do however encourage authors to adopt a writing style which balances conciseness with the need to do justice to their subject. Therefore, authors of review articles in excess of around 20,000 words should first discuss their idea by email with one of the journal editors, copied to Tim Horscroft, Review Papers Coordinator/Managing Editor (timothy.horscroft@e... to ensure the project's suitability for potential publication.Illustra... must be actual figures (maps, profiles, graphs, photos etc) and not repetitions in graphical form of the text. All figure captions, especially where the figure is from the literature, must state the message of the figure and not only be a statement of its content. This is especially important, in providing a service to the reader, in a review paper that uses illustrations from difficult to access sources. Figure captions must be placed beneath each figure and can also be listed separately.From time to time, reviews on topics of exceptional or current interest, and of an exceptional standard, will be invited by the editors. These will be peer-reviewed in the same way as all articles. Chemical Geology incorporates the journal previously known as Isotope Geoscience and is the journal affiliated with the European Association of Geochemistry. Chemical Geology publishes geochemical studies of fundamental and broad significance to enhance the understanding of the Earth and the solar system, focusing on chemical and mineralising processes in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary systems, low- and high-temperature mineral-fluid interactions, biogeochemistry, the environment and cosmochemistry.Paper... that are field, experimentally, or computationally based are appropriate if they are of broad international interest. Icarus
Icarus is devoted to the publication of original contributions in the field of Solar System studies. Manuscripts reporting the results of new research - observational, experimental, or theoretical - concerning the astronomy, geology, meteorology, physics, chemistry, biology, and other scientific aspects of our Solar System or extrasolar systems are welcome. The journal generally does not publish papers devoted exclusively to the Sun or the Earth; papers on celestial mechanics or astrophysics are acceptable only if they have a clear importance for planetary science; descriptive studies of meteorites should be addressed to journals of meteoritics, but are relevant for Icarus is they provide constraints on the formation or evolution of planetesimals, planets or the solar system in its globality. Icarus does not publish papers that provide "improved" versions of Bode's law, or other numerical relations, without a sound physical basis. Icarus does not publish meeting announcements or general notices. Reviews, historical papers, and manuscripts describing spacecraft instrumentation may be considered, but only with prior approval of the editor. An entire issue of the journal is occasionally devoted to a single subject, usually arising from a conference on the same topic. The language of publication is English. Geochemistry (formerly known as Chemie der Erde or as International Journal for Chemical Topics of the Geosciences) is one of the oldest journals for geochemistry-related topics. Marine Geology
Marine Geology is the journal on marine geological processes in the broadest sense. It seeks papers that are comprehensive, interdisciplinary and synthetic that will be lasting contributions to the field. Papers must demonstrate new findings and their context and significance discussed in terms of the international literature.Marine Geology accepts papers on subjects as diverse as seafloor hydrothermal systems, beach dynamics, early diagenesis, microbiological studies in sediments, palaeoclimate studies and geophysical studies of the seabed. Papers that address emerging new fields, for example the influence of anthropogenic processes on coastal and marine geology are particularly welcomed.The papers should be concerned with the coastal and marine realm in the broad sense and should deal with rocks, sediments, landforms (sedimentology, geomorphology, geoarchaeology, geochemistry), the physical and chemical and biological processes affecting them, and the characteristics and evolution of the processes/mechanisms as revealed by sedimentary archives.Papers should address scientific hypotheses: data compilations, including 'big data' and datasets of global significance, and papers that deal with marine management and risk assessment, sustainability issues, and hydrocarbon reservoir characterisation may be submitted to the journal on the condition that they demonstrate a close and clear relationship between these issues and coastal/marine geological processes and deposits. Papers on laboratory or modelling studies must demonstrate direct relevance to marine processes or deposits. The Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics (JASTP) is an international journal concerned with the inter-disciplinary science of the Earth's atmospheric and space environment, especially the highly varied and highly variable physical phenomena that occur in this natural laboratory and the processes that couple them.The journal covers the physical processes operating in the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, ionosphere, magnetosphere, the Sun, interplanetary medium, and heliosphere. Phenomena occurring in other "spheres", solar influences on climate, and supporting laboratory measurements are also considered. The journal deals especially with the coupling between the different regions.Geoeffective solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and other energetic events on the Sun lead to geomagnetic disturbances of the Earth's magnetosphere and directly affect processes in the Earth's ionosphere and atmosphere. Such processes in the solar-terrestrial chain of connections are determined by time intervals and are united in the concepts of "space weather" and "space climate". These topics are central to the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, and the journal welcomes papers that lead toward a predictive understanding of the coupled system. Regarding the upper atmosphere, the subjects of aeronomy, geomagnetism and geoelectricity, auroral phenomena, radio wave propagation, and plasma instabilities, are examples within the broad field of solar-terrestrial physics which emphasise the energy exchange between the solar wind, the magnetospheric and ionospheric plasmas, and the neutral gas. Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology does not consider purely descriptive studies which lack mechanistic determination in the experimental design. Whilst Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology recognises that animal studies remain an intrinsic part of scientific research, the Journal is strongly in favour of submissions which feature human and in silico-based new approach methods (so-called NAMs). Of course, all submissions will be evaluated in line with current best scientific practice, but it is important to note, that Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology does not require animal-based validation of NAMs. Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology will not consider submissions which feature undefined extracts of either natural products or environmental samples, but submissions are welcomed on defined mixtures which explore their potential toxicological implications.
