Description

Matter & Light will encompass research that focuses on and exploits the intricate interactions between light and materials across various scales. A focus will be on innovative materials and novel mechanisms that manipulate, transform, or generate light, from infrared to gamma rays.

The journal will seek research of new materials, architectures, and methodologies that enhance the ability to control and understand the mechanisms underlying light-matter interactions.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Underlying physics, including photonics, optics, plasmonics, quantum scale emissions, etc.

  • Energy applications, including photovoltaics and solar cells, photoelectronics, etc.

  • Novel chemistries, including photochemistry, aggregate induced emissions (AIE), fluorescent/luminescent molecules, photocatalysis and related platforms, etc.

  • Emerging materials systems, including photoexcited systems and characterization of optoelectronic properties, and observation/quantification/description of light-matter interactions and phenomena

  • Engineering and technological solutions, including optical data storage, X-rays, lasers, LEDs, light-responsive sensors, actuators, and smart devices

  • Electromagnetic metamaterials and related systems

Matter & Light welcomes submissions that not only advance theoretical understanding but also push the boundaries of practical applications. The journal will publish review articles, research papers, as well as short research formats. The target audience will consist of both physical scientists and engineering researchers/applied scientists working on light/matter challenges and related technological solutions.

The journal is committed to the high-quality publishing values synonymous with the Cell Press brand and strives to publish exceptional content alongside a fair, rapid, and rigorous peer-review process via a dedicated team of in-house professional editors.
