  • Infrared and Millimeter Waves V6

    Systems and Components
    • 1st Edition
    • Kenneth J. Button
    • English
Infrared and Millimeter Waves is a series of books that compiles the work of several authors, with each volume focusing on certain aspect of infrared and millimeter waves, such as sources of radiation, instrumentation, and millimeter systems. This is particularly related to systems and components. Consisting of six chapters, the book first offers a review of infrared and submillimeter spectroscopy of the atmosphere. The next chapter provides a comprehensive coverage of interferometric spectrometers. Chapter three discusses general principles of infrared detectors, treatment of photon detectors, bolometers, and coherent detectors. The fourth chapter discusses the use of metal-semiconductor junctions as frequency converters. Next, the book reviews quasi-optical techniques at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. The last chapter tackles far-infrared and submillimeter-wavele... filters. This book will be of great use to researchers and professionals whose work involves infrared and millimeter waves.

Infrared and Millimeter Waves is a series of books that compiles the work of several authors, with each volume focusing on certain aspects of infrared and millimeter waves, such as sources of radiation, instrumentation, and millimeter systems. This book is the first of a two-part volume that covers the coherent sources and applications of infrared and millimeter waves. The first chapter discusses sources and applications, while the second chapter provides a comprehensive discussion about spectroscopy of molecules by far-infrared laser emission. This is followed by a discussion of stark spectroscopy and frequency tuning in optically pumped far-infrared molecular lasers. Measured performance of gyrotron oscillators and amplifiers is also covered. This book will be of great use to researchers and professionals whose work involves infrared and millimeter waves.

Multicomputers and Image Processing: Algorithms and Programs is the second of a set presenting papers from the third meeting held in Madison, Wisconsin on May 27-30, 1981. The workshop explores the large and powerful multicomputer arrays and networks, with particular emphasis on the related aspects of developing algorithms and programs for multicomputer architectures. Separating 33 papers into chapters, this book reflects the three major aspects of the problem: user algorithms and programs; higher level languages; and multicomputer architectures. The first chapters present specific, larger structure, as well as whole program algorithms and their respective applications. Other chapters describe the important high-level programming of Fortran-based language for the massively parallel processors and the set-theory-based language for expressing the structural image processing and perceptual operations effected by Cytocomputer and other cellular-array-motiv... architectures. The concluding chapters examine several major types of computer architectures that are being developed for large parallel-serial multicomputer systems. This book is of great value to computer programmers and scientists.
  • Introduction to Geological Maps and Structures

Pergamon International Library of Science, Technology, Engineering and Social Studies
    • 1st Edition
    • Robert Maxwell
    • English
Introduction to Geological Maps and Structures deals with the preparation of geological maps using topographic contours such as hills, valleys, rock outcrop patterns, faults, veins, rivers, lakes, cliffs, and coasts. A geological formation is a three-dimensional body with a particular shape. Two factors determine the accuracy of boundaries on a geological map: 1) boundaries can only be drawn where there is a sharp contact between adjacent formations; and 2) the ability to follow geological boundaries in the field depends on the degree of exposure, from which the solid rocks tend to be hidden under a cover of soil and superficial deposits. If economic interests are involved, geological maps are very detailed: subsurface information obtained from bore holes and mine workings can be added to surface mapping. The book also describes the construction of a tectonic map, usually drawn on a larger scale, which shows the outcrop of lithostratigraphic units also in very large scales. The book notes that no systematic methodology has yet been developed for the construction of tectonic maps. The book is suitable for geologists, students, or scientists involved in hydrology, meteorology and with general earth sciences.
  • Weaving

    Conversion of Yarn to Fabric
    • 2nd Edition
    • Peter R. Lord + 1 more
    • English
In this book, the authors consider not only the design and operation of the loom itself, but also the preparation of yarns and packages, the design and structure of the fabrics produced, and the management aspects of weaving as an industrial process. A comprehensive reference book covering in depth the modern technology of woven fabric production. It will be of value of the practitioner and student alike. The information provided will enable the reader to judge how to produce a fabric suited to a particular purpose in the most economical way. The text is generously illustrated and there is a glossary of terms which is cross-referenced to the text and to an extensive list of cited literature. Originally published by Merrow 2nd edition 1982.
  • An Introduction to Continuum Mechanics

    • 1st Edition
    • Volume 158
    • Morton E. Gurtin
    • English
This book presents an introduction to the classical theories of continuum mechanics; in particular, to the theories of ideal, compressible, and viscous fluids, and to the linear and nonlinear theories of elasticity. These theories are important, not only because they are applicable to a majority of the problems in continuum mechanics arising in practice, but because they form a solid base upon which one can readily construct more complex theories of material behavior. Further, although attention is limited to the classical theories, the treatment is modern with a major emphasis on foundations and structure
