Deep-Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers
The journal is concerned with fundamental oceanography of the deep sea in the broadest sense. This includes, ocean physics including circulation, waves, turbulence, thermodynamics, optics, acoustics, mixing, or other process studies, atmosphere ocean coupling, primary production, organic carbon fluxes, chemistry, palaeoceanography, geophysics, sedimentology, all aspects of biology from microbes to marine mammals, physiology, ecology, biogeography, evolution, behaviour and anthropological impacts.The deep sea is interpreted to be the ocean beyond the continental shelf. Papers dealing exclusively with areas inshore of the shelf break are in general more appropriate to our companion journal Continental Shelf Research.Instruments and Methods papers can describe novel hardware, vehicles, research vessels, instrumentation, sensors (physical, chemical or biological), survey methods, analysis and calibration methods as well as software and novel data-analysis techniques but with the caveat of evidence of successful use in oceanography. We do not accept applied science/technology papers on deep-sea mining, drilling, bio-prospecting or management of fish stocks in which the aim is not oceanographic research. In biological papers, we welcome descriptions of new species but these should be in the context of advancing knowledge of ecology, evolution and biogeography in the deep sea; purely taxonomic papers should be submitted to a specialist journal.Deep-Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, considers four types of paper: Research Papers: These should report results of original scientific research, including theoretical work of evident oceanographic applicability. To encourage full reporting of complex studies there is no formal length limit on research papers but editors and reviewers will discourage excessive verbosity and repetition.Instrumen... and Methods: These should report novel solutions of instrumental or methodological problems with evidence of successful use. There is no length limit.Short Communication: These can be reports of novel research or instruments and methods and should not contain more than 4,000 words and no more than 3 figures and 1 table.Reviews: The journal welcomes suggestions for reviews synthesising knowledge of any aspect of the deep sea. These reviews should be approximately 12,000 words in length and suggestions should be discussed with the Editors-in-Chief.Spe... Collections of papers: Proposals for special topic issues should be directed to our sister journal: Deep-Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography. However, this journal can publish collections of up to 5 papers that address a special topic that are insufficient to fill a whole journal volume. Proposals for special collections should be discussed with an Editor-in-Chief. The proponent of a special collection may be appointed as a Special Section Guest Editor. Papers can be submitted in any order and at any time and will be handled in the normal way by the guest editor or established editors. Each paper will be published on-line as soon as it is accepted. When the final paper in the collection is accepted then the entire collection will be assigned to a volume and authors may suggest a cover image. Papers in a collection should be numbered consecutively with a short main title and more extensive subtitle. E.g. Ocean carbon fluxes 1: xxxxxxx, Ocean fluxes 2: yyyyyyyyyy. Each paper in the collection should be a self-standing and can be a Research Paper, Instruments and methods paper, Short Communication or Review. Guest editors may add an editorial introducing the section.For all papers, supplemental matter, such as extensive data tables or graphs and multimedia content, may be published as electronic appendices. Deposition of data, gene sequences and type specimens:This journal encourages sharing of data (see section on research data below) and recommends that data be placed in appropriate repositories or included in the supplemental matter submitted with the paper. New gene sequences should be deposited in the DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank database. Type specimens should be deposited in the appropriate national or international public museum or collection. Works in related fields such as heat transfer, wave propagation, modal analysis, optimization, concrete and geological materials, and the development of numerical methods are now supported by dedicated journals, but will be considered provided they are of broad interest and represent significant progress. Articles that make intelligent and insightful use of AI to enhance or supplement, but not replace, the laws of physics will be welcome.Emphasis is placed on contributions, analytical, experimental and numerical, which appear to be of permanent interest to research workers and engineers in the field. Founded in 1981 by two of the pre-eminent control theorists, Roger Brockett and Jan Willems, Systems & Control Letters is one of the leading journals in the field of control theory. The aim of the journal is to allow dissemination of relatively concise but highly original contributions whose high initial quality enables a relatively rapid review process. All aspects of the fields of systems and control are covered, especially mathematically-orien... and theoretical papers that have a clear relevance to engineering, physical and biological sciences, and even economics. Application-oriented papers with sophisticated and rigorous mathematical elements are also welcome. Expressly excluded from SCL's scope are the following topics: fractional-order systems, designs employing fuzzy-neural network approximations, all but the most mathematically sophisticated embodiments of sliding-mode control, "dynamic surface control", adaptive control under unknown sign of high-frequency gain (Nussbaum gain algorithms), the so-called "multi-dimensional" systems (discrete-time/discr... systems inspired by image processing), all applications not entailing significant theoretical advances, and all papers with analytical developments not resulting in rigorous "theorem-proof" formulations of the results.Articles published in SCL rarely exceed 8-10 pages in Elsevier's two-column format. However, submission on topics of a technically demanding nature (for example, stochastic control, PDE control, etc.), where even concisely crafted proofs cannot fit into the said page limit, are also welcome, as long as their initial quality is high and permits editorial processing that typically takes no more than two rounds of review. (Initial quality refers to originality, relevance, correctness, clarity of exposition, and comprehensive awareness of literature in the paper's first draft.)Following the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment, signed by Elsevier and over 2,000 organizations and 16,000 researchers, authors of submissions to SCL should cite primary literature, in which observations are first reported, rather than limiting themselves to citing surveys and predominantly recent contributions. Additionally, geographically limited perspectives on the literature are not appropriate for submissions to a global journal like SCL. This policy aims for a proper attribution of credit, authors' adequate assessment of their own contributions, and those undertaking follow-up research effort not being misguided regarding the state of the art on a topic to which they will dedicate much time and their career hopes. The editors may reject an article containing such lapses, either after the deficiencies are not corrected to the editors' satisfaction upon being pointed out by editors or reviewers, or immediately upon submission if the deficiencies require a degree of editorial input that is more commonly associated with acting as a co-author than as an editor or reviewer.- ISSN: 0167-6911

Progress in Solid State Chemistry presents a chemical view of the solid state by providing up-to-date critical reviews written by acknowledged authorities in the field. It also publishes surveys of research progress and specialized articles devoted to summarizing particular recent developments. The aim is to address the need brought about by the literature on the chemistry of the solid state being widely dispersed, making it difficult to obtain a broad and unified assessment of the present state of knowledge. Special emphasis is given to relating physical properties and structural chemistry. Forest Policy and Economics is the leading hub for social sciences research on forests.
