Journal of Aerosol Science
An International JournalFounded in 1970, the Journal of Aerosol Science is the first journal dedicated to the science and engineering of particles and droplets suspended in gases. It serves an interdisciplinary community spanning engineering, physics, chemistry, environmental science, and related fields, with a focus on advancing fundamental understanding alongside enabling technologies. The journal publishes original research and reviews that deliver clear advances in the fundamental principles governing aerosol behavior or that introduce enabling concepts, methods, or measurements with broad relevance. Submissions should demonstrate rigorous analysis, strong connection to underlying physics and chemistry, and novelty that extends beyond incremental application or routine use of established approaches. Editorial decisions are based on technical quality, depth of insight, and contribution to the field’s foundations and future directions.ScopeThe journal welcomes contributions across three core areas, with emphasis on work that advances predictive understanding, links scales, or enables new capabilities.1. Fundamental Aerosol ScienceTransport, deposition, and multiphase dynamics; nucleation, condensation, and evaporation; particle charging and collision processes; radiative interactions; aerosol formation in reactive and non-equilibrium environments; cluster and nanoscale aerosol physics; chemistry, thermodynamics, and phase behavior; population balance and kinetic theory; and multiscale descriptions that bridge atomistic to continuum behavior.2. Applied Aerosol ScienceNew and novel aerosol-based synthesis and manufacturing, including scalable routes to functional materials; high-temperature and reactive aerosols such as soot and plasma systems; novel filtration, separation, and control technologies; new material discovery; aerosols in energy systems; bioaerosols, health, and inhalation science where new physical insight is demonstrated; and industrial processes involving particle formation, transformation, or transport.3. Instrumentation and Measurement MethodsNew or significantly advanced techniques for aerosol measurement, including mobility and mass analysis, optical and spectroscopic diagnostics, single-particle methods, and in situ probes for reactive or extreme environments. Contributions should provide demonstrable advances in capability, resolution, accuracy, or interpretability. Methods that integrate data science or inversion approaches are encouraged when they yield new physical insight or measurement capability.Emerging DirectionsThe journal particularly encourages work in areas shaping the future of aerosol science, including:• Multiscale and data-enabled modeling that connects atomistic processes to macroscopic behavior• Aerosol science in extreme conditions, including high temperature, high pressure, and plasma environments• Directed assembly and manufacturing of functional materials from aerosol building blocks• Coupled aerosol processes in energy, climate, and industrial decarbonization technologies• Next-generation measurement systems, including distributed sensing and real-time diagnostics with physical interpretability• Interfaces between aerosols and biological, chemical, or electrochemical systems where new mechanistic understanding is developedOut of ScopeThe journal does not publish work that primarily reports routine measurements, incremental extensions of established methods, or case-specific simulations without generalizable insight. Studies focused on environmental monitoring, source apportionment, or large-scale atmospheric modeling are better suited to journals dedicated to air quality and atmospheric chemistry unless they introduce new aerosol physics, chemistry or broadly applicable methodology. Instrumentation papers must demonstrate clear advances beyond existing techniques. Numerical studies must provide new theory, methods, or validated insight into aerosol behavior. Results from widely-available computational fluid dynamics software and built-in particle trajectory models are not appropriate for the Journal of Aerosol Science, unless the uniqueness and novelty of the approach employed is clearly evident.- ISSN: 0021-8502

Fluid Phase Equilibria
Fluid Phase Equilibria publishes high-quality papers dealing with experimental, theoretical, and applied research related to equilibrium and transport properties of fluids, solids, and interfaces. Subjects of interest include physical/phase and chemical equilibria; equilibrium and nonequilibrium thermophysical properties; fundamental thermodynamic relations; and stability. The systems central to the journal include pure substances and mixtures of organic and inorganic materials, including polymers, biochemicals, and surfactants, with sufficient characterization of composition and purity for the results to be reproduced. Naturally occurring systems that cannot be completely characterized will be considered only if they are of high practical interest and the work leads to significant new findings. In all cases, enough detail must be given to permit independent verification, and authors are also expected to provide physical or chemical interpretations of the results.Experimental research can include measurements under all conditions of temperature, pressure, and composition, including critical and supercritical. Measurements are to be associated with systems and conditions of fundamental or applied interest, and may not be only a collection of routine data, such as physical property or solubility measurements at limited pressures and temperatures close to ambient, or surfactant studies focussed strictly on micellisation or micelle structure. Papers reporting common data must be accompanied by new physical insights and/or contemporary or new theory or techniques. All data reports and analyses will be examined by NIST for consistency with the requirements posted at http://trc.nist.gov/... and computational studies can include equations of state; correlations or predictive models; molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations; statistical thermodynamics; quantum chemistry; and other applied mathematical and computational approaches. Research reporting new theories and models are expected to show adequate comparisons of predictive ability and accuracy with both applicable data and contemporary existing models. Contributions on artificial neural networks, machine learning, and similar approaches will only be considered when full details of the methodology are provided and comparisons of accuracy are made with existing physically-based models, or if no thermodynamic models are available. All reported computational studies must be fully reproducible by others. As such all algorithms and methods should be described in sufficient detail, all parameters for models, force fields, and electronic structure methods should be given explicitly in the manuscript or supporting information. The journal publishes full research papers and also short communications to describe emerging ideas for which rapid publication is essential. Critical reviews are encouraged and should be prepared in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief. The journal will not publish articles that have appeared partially, or completely, in other journals, that plagiarize other works, or that are incompletely referenced; verification will be made using the software at http://www.ithentica... The text must be in English and should be clear, in a well-structured style, and be free of grammatical and spelling errors.- ISSN: 0378-3812

Process Safety and Environmental Protection
Publication of the Institution of Chemical Engineers Official Journal of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering: Part BPSEP aims to be the principal international journal for publication of high quality, original papers in the branches of engineering concerned with the safety of industrial processes and the protection of the environment.Papers that deal with new developments in safety or environmental aspects, demonstrating how research results can be used in process engineering design and practice, are particularly encouraged. Experimental or theoretical research work bringing new perspectives to established principles, highlighting unsolved problems or indicating directions for future research will also be considered. The journal is especially interested in contributions that extend the boundaries of traditional engineering as well as in multidisciplinary papers.Papers related to environmental protection must take an integrated pollution control approach, demonstrating clearly that any proposed treatment method does not simply transfer pollution from one environmental medium to another, for example, from air to water or from water to solid waste. All such papers must discuss how any treatment effluents, spent adsorbents, etc., can be treated or disposed of safely, avoiding transfer of pollution to another environmental medium. For environmental protection, papers that are outside the scope are those that lack engineering aspects, including those that:use experimental techniques primarily to prepare and/or characterise various materials without considerations of process engineering design and practice;present primarily laboratory experiments of the effects of different parameters on behaviour of materials and pollutants (e.g. pH, temperature, mass of adsorbent, etc.) without further insights into the implications for engineering design and practice;focus primarily on adsorption models and curve fitting (e.g. Freundlich, Langmuir etc.); Separation and Purification Technology
Separation and Purification Technology is a journal dedicated to the dissemination of novel methods for separation and purification in chemical and environmental engineering for homogeneous solutions and heterogeneous mixtures. This includes any separation and/or purification of liquids, vapors and gases, resource recycling, purification of biobased feedstocks/products, carbon capture and separation, with the exception of methods intended for analytical purposes. The journal welcomes contributions related to bioseparations in biotechnology, pharmaceutical production, food processing, and environmental applications. Soil science, polymer science and metallurgy are outside the scope of the journal. The Official Journal of the American Filtration and Separations Society.Contribution... should be always related to new or improved separation methods or principles; applications are welcome provided that they are not a direct implementation of known separation methods.Separation and Purification Technology welcomes contributions focused on experimental studies and theoretical analyses of phenomena associated with and arising from separation and purification as well as process development and simulation, equipment design and fabrication. Preparation and modification of materials used in separation and/or purification operations can be considered if the intended separation and/or purification is an essential part of the work rather than a tool for characterization of a material. Such new materials should allow for separations that cannot be achieved with existing materials; alternative materials for e.g., adsorption are not sufficiently novel. Simulation studies are welcome, but should be accompanied by experimental verification. In view of ethical concerns regarding the detrimental impacts of fluorinated compounds, studies relying fully or in part on materials such as PVDF or PTFE are limited to the environmental impacts of PVDF-based materials used in separations and on possible environmentally-frie... alternatives. Research on fossil fuels is limited to studies not aiming at enhanced exploitation of fossil reserves. Manuscripts should be of global significance; studies addressing a local, national or regional challenge will not be accepted. The global relevance should be clearly explained in the manuscript.Review papers should be written by an author with proven expertise in the field, and provide a critical assessment of the state-of-the-art in a specific topic related to novel approaches in separation and purification.- ISSN: 1383-5866

Examples are papers that are limited to:Routine preparation and characterization of catalytic materialsRoutine synthetic organic applications of catalysisRoutine computational studies that merely reproduces experimental dataSince the scopes of the Elsevier journals Molecular Catalysis, Applied Catalysis A: General, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, and Catalysis Communications are complementary, an appropriate submission to each journal could be borderline, in which case the advice of another Editor will be sought, possibly redirecting the submission to either Applied Catalysis A: General, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, or Catalysis Communications (for letters) with the author(s)'s agreement.Molecular Catalysis publishes regularly full papers; special issues on well-defined topics are published only by invitation. However, proposal from authors are welcome anytime and enquiries regarding the submission of special issues should be directed to the Editors. Any special issue should contain at least 30 articles featuring work from leading experts in the area and/or from leading institutes.Review and Perspective articles are normally published by invitation.Perspecti... are short articles covering current areas of interest for molecular catalysis audience in the form of personal accounts. The length of a published perspective ranges from 1500 to 2000 words (excluding figures, structures, photographs, schemes, tables, etc.) with at least 20 or more references.A new article format called "Ongoing Story" will focus on a still open molecular catalysis research showing the developments in the understanding by a specialist area. The length of a published "Ongoing story" ranges from 500 to 1000 words (excluding figures, structures, photographs, schemes, tables, etc.).Guidelines for catalyst characterization and reporting experimental results:Every manuscript published in Molecular Catalysis has to provide sufficient experimental detail to reproduce the experiments and calculations reported. Also, the identity of the products (especially if a new product is synthesized) has to be established together with the yield and its purity.Catalyst characterization: To establish the identity of new catalysts a precise synthesis and purification procedure is inevitable as well as sufficient spectroscopic (e.g. UV-Vis, NMR etc.), crystallographic and chromatographic identification (ideally placed into the supporting information). In case of enzyme catalysts, a detailed description and documentation (e.g. SDS-gels etc) of the enzyme preparation (such as expression system, induction, fermentation conditions, downstream processing and enzyme purification) has to be provided.Catalyst activity assays have to be described in detail (including reagents, assay conditions and activity calculations).Reacti... conditions: A detailed description of the reaction conditions comprises: solvent composition (if appropriate buffer strength, pH etc.), reaction temperature, pressure, shaking- or stirring etc. Whereas possible, the concentrations of all reagents must be given in molar concentrations. This applies in particular to time courses shown in the manuscript. Authors should refrain from showing %-conversions but rather show molar concentrations of products and starting materials. To evaluate the efficiency of a catalyst, turnover numbers and turnover frequencies (together with the conditions and equations for their calculation) should be included in the manuscript text.Statements on efficiency and/or environmental benignity: In general, authors should refrain from claims of 'efficiency' and/or environmental benignity ('greenness') unless these claims are substantiated by a quantitative comparison with a method of the state-of-the-art. Manuscripts using such terms excessively without quantitative justification will not be considered for publication.Plagiari... All manuscripts submitted to Molecular Catalysis are routinely screened with respect to originality of concept, content, and writing. It is not appropriate for an author to reuse wording from publicly available sources (including the authors' own publications) no matter if cited (or not). Manuscripts with a plagiarism level (similarity index) above 10%, including self-plagiarism will be automatically rejected at Editorial level.- ISSN: 2468-8231
