  • Circuit Analysis

    • 1st Edition
    • J E Whitehouse
    • English
This text presents the fundamentals of circuit analysis in a way suitable for first and second year undergraduate courses in electronic or electrical engineering. It is very much a ‘theme text’ and not a work book. The author is at pains to follow the logical thread of the subject, showing that the development of topics, one from the other, is not ad hoc as it can sometimes appear. A case in point is the application of graph theory to justify the derivation of the Node- and Mesh-equations from the more extensive set of Kirchhoff current and voltage equations. The topology of networks is stressed, again with the aid of graph theory. The Fourier series is discussed at an early stage in regard to time-varying voltages to pave the way for sinusoidal analysis, and then dealt with in a later chapter. The complex frequency is presented at the earliest opportunity with ‘steady a.c.’ subsequently seen as a special case. The use of Laplace transformation appears as an operational method for the solution of differential equations which govern the behaviour of all physical systems. However, more emphasis is laid on the use of impedances as a means of bypassing the need to solve, or indeed even having to write down, differential equations. The author discusses the role of network duals in circuit analysis, and clarifies the duality of Thevenin’s and Norton’s equations, and also exploits time/frequency duality of the Fourier transform in his treatment of the convolution of functions in time and frequency.Worked examples are given throughout the book, together with chapter problems for which the author has provided solutions and guidance.
  • Offshore Lending and Financing

A Practical and Legal Handbook for Lenders, Borrowers, investors and their Professional Advisers
    • 1st Edition
    • Vaumini Amin
    • English
Written for the international banking and financial services community, their advisors and offshore companies, this is the first book comprehensively to address the principles and practice of bank lending to offshore tax haven entities. Highly practical in its analysis of lending considerations via this secretive sector, it also contains a comparative study of law and practice in key offshore jurisdictions.
  • Law Relating to International Banking

    • 1st Edition
    • Graham Roberts
    • English
The author has provided an analysis of the principles of private international law as applicable to banking. This is the first book to provide coverage and analysis of the law and practice relating to syndicated loans, bonds, loan transfers and swaps in a single volume. It will be essential reading for all bankers who require an understanding of international banking law.
  • Private Banking

    A Global Perspective
    • 1st Edition
    • Lucy Weldon
    • English
The first comprehensive professional guide to the workings and structure of the international private banking marketplace, this book details the services available, the key players, the distinctive characteristics of, pressure upon and trends within this traditionally very closed financial market. It begins with an analysis of the industry including an invaluable guide to private banking providers. The author then goes on to examine the profitability of private banking and then covers the structures and strategies which are necessary for private banking to work. The book concludes with an overview of the market trends and characteristics.
  • Duplex Stainless Steels

    Microstructure, Properties and Applications
    • 1st Edition
    • R Gunn
    • English
Two very successful conferences - in Glasgow and Beaune - were held on duplex stainless steels during the first half of the '90s. This book takes keynote papers from each, and develops and expands them to bring the topics right up to date. There is new material to cover grades, specifications and standards, and the book is fully cross-references and indexed. The first reference book to be published on the increasingly popular duplex stainless steels, it will be widely welcomed by metallurgists, design and materials engineers, oil and gas engineers and anyone involved in materials development and properties.
  • Flow-Induced Alignment in Composite Materials

    • 1st Edition
    • T.D. Papathanasiou + 1 more
    • English
The purpose of aligning short fibres in a fibre-reinforced material is to improve the mechanical properties of the resulting composite. Aligning the fibres, generally in a preferred direction, allows them to contribute as much as possible to reinforcing the material.Flow induced alignment in composite materials details, in a single volume, the science, processing, applications, characterisation and properties of composite materials reinforced with short fibres that have been orientated in a preferred direction by flows arising during processing. The topics discussed include fibre alignment and materials rheology; processes that can produce fibre alignment in polymeric, liquid crystal polymeric, and metallic composites; materials characterization and mechanical properties; and modelling of processes and materials properties. The technology of fibre-reinforced composites is continually evolving and this book provides timely and much needed information about this important class of engineering materials. The bookis an essential reference work for industry and an indispensable guide for the research worker, advanced student and materials scientist.
  • Intellectual Property Rights and their Valuation

A Handbook for Bankers, Companies and Their Advisers
    • 1st Edition
    • Peter Groves
    • English
This book is designed to provide an introduction to an area of the law which even now remains a closed book to the majority of practising lawyers. Bankers are not expected to have an intimate knowledge of the law relating to intellectual property, but they should have, because customers are likely to own intellectual property rights which offer a valuable source of security for lending transactions. The banker dealing with clients who own intellectual property should be able to distinguish patents and trademarks, and appreciate what copyright may protect. This book is a valuable tool in this process. Finally, the impact of the European Union, which will radically reshape intellectual property laws in the UK in the next few years is considered.
  • Fundamentals of Inorganic Chemistry

An Introductory Text for Degree Studies
    • 1st Edition
    • J Barrett + 1 more
    • English
This work is a foundation course text for first and second year undergraduates in which description and understanding of inorganic chemistry are fully integrated. It covers the main underlying theoretical ideas, taking account of the level of mathematical ability among present-day students commencing university study. Each chapter provides "worked example" problems, supported by additional problem-exercises which test comprehension and serve for revision or self-study.
