Tremendous advancements in a multitude of technologies ranging from personalized and embedded smart devices (e.g., smartphones, sensors, wearables, IoT) to ubiquitous connectivity through wireless mobile communications and cognitive networking infrastructures, to advanced computing techniques (including mobile edge/fog/cloud, data analytics and machine learning) and user-friendly middleware services and platforms have significantly contributed to the unprecedented advances in pervasive and mobile computing.Such cutting-edge pervasive technologies and paradigms have led to the convergence of cyber-physical-human systems with applications to smart environments (e.g., smart homes and cities, smart grid, smart transportation, smart health, smart agriculture) with the goal to improve human experience and quality of life without explicit awareness of the underlying communications and computing technologies. It ranges from the microarchitecture level via the system software level up to the application-specific architecture level. Aspects such as real-time systems, operating systems, programming languages, communications (limited to analysis and the software stack), mobile systems, parallel and distributed architectures as well as additional subjects in the computer and system architecture area will fall within the scope of this journal. Technology will not be a main focus, but its use and relevance to particular designs will be. Case studies are welcome but must contribute more than just a design for a particular piece of software.Design automation of such systems including methodologies, techniques and tools for their design as well as novel designs of software components fall within the scope of this journal.
