    Rangeland Ecology & Management is the world's premier science journal for rangelands. Formerly known as the Journal of Range Management, this journal has been the flagship publication of the Society for Range Management since 1948. Rangelands are open ecosystems shaped by grazing and browsing mammals, pastoralists, and aridity. They occupy half of the Earth’s land surface, support the livelihoods of over 500 million people, are included in 67% of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, play a critical role in regulating global climate, and provide many other ecosystem services that affect human well-being. Yet global rangelands continue to be neglected in science and policy, limiting the support provided to pastoralists and rangeland managers. The declaration of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists by the United Nations acknowledged the urgent need to accelerate production of science-based knowledge about rangelands. The mission of Rangeland Ecology & Management is to promote actionable science and management solutions in support of global rangeland stewardship. Rangeland science is inherently multidisciplinary. Accordingly, Rangeland Ecology & Management welcomes papers that advance knowledge about rangelands in a variety of contexts, including ecosystem processes and services, human dimensions and policy, wildlife and biodiversity, land use and land cover change, and social-ecological systems. The journal especially welcomes papers that provide evidence of the effectiveness of management, restoration, and policy options in rangelands and that introduce or evaluate technological, research, and management innovations. Paper types include concepts and perspectives, synthesis, research papers, technological innovations, and short communications. Regional rangeland perspectives are welcome, but topics should be placed in a global context given the journal's international readership and impact. All papers must include an Implications section that specifies how the work advances the understanding of rangelands and their management.

    The Journal covers the entire field of infrared physics and technology: theory, experiment, application, devices and instrumentation. Infrared' is defined as covering the near, mid and far infrared (terahertz) regions from 0.75um (750nm) to 1mm (300GHz.) Submissions in the 300GHz to 100GHz region may be accepted at the editors discretion if their content is relevant to shorter wavelengths. The very near infrared, VNIR, defined as 750nm-1200nm is subject to special consideration.Where a submission utilises the VNIR alone, or in conjunction with longer wavelengths and uses typically `infrared? technology such as InGaAs detectors, it is in scope.Where a submission utilises the VNIR and shorter wavelengths in the visible, and uses typically visible region technology such as silicon detectors, it is unlikely to be appropriate to this Journal. Submissions must be primarily concerned with and directly relevant to this spectral region. Its core topics can be summarized as the generation, propagation and detection, of infrared radiation; the associated optics, materials and devices; and its use in all fields of science, industry, engineering and medicine. When applying infrared technology to other fields, authors should pay particular attention to emphasizing the key role of infrared.Infrared techniques occur in many different fields, notably spectroscopy and interferometry; material characterization and processing; atmospheric physics, astronomy and space research. Particularly for applications in the NIR spectral range, authors should emphasize the novelty of their work.The Journal publishes experimentally validated research. Purely computational or analytical studies (e.g., computer modelling, numerical simulation, analytical calculation) are considered solely in exceptional circumstances and when supported by compelling reasons. The Journal only publishes papers which are purely based on computer modelling without support from experimental results in exceptional circumstances when there is a clear reason to do so. These might, for example, include comparative studies of designs for large pieces of equipment such as satellites, FELs etc.Papers on advances in modelling techniques, appropriately validated, are welcome.

    Founded in 1981 by two of the pre-eminent control theorists, Roger Brockett and Jan Willems, Systems & Control Letters is one of the leading journals in the field of control theory. The aim of the journal is to allow dissemination of relatively concise but highly original contributions whose high initial quality enables a relatively rapid review process. All aspects of the fields of systems and control are covered, especially mathematically-orien... and theoretical papers that have a clear relevance to engineering, physical and biological sciences, and even economics. Application-oriented papers with sophisticated and rigorous mathematical elements are also welcome. Expressly excluded from SCL's scope are the following topics: fractional-order systems, designs employing fuzzy-neural network approximations, all but the most mathematically sophisticated embodiments of sliding-mode control, "dynamic surface control", adaptive control under unknown sign of high-frequency gain (Nussbaum gain algorithms), the so-called "multi-dimensional" systems (discrete-time/discr... systems inspired by image processing), all applications not entailing significant theoretical advances, and all papers with analytical developments not resulting in rigorous "theorem-proof" formulations of the results.Articles published in SCL rarely exceed 8-10 pages in Elsevier's two-column format. However, submission on topics of a technically demanding nature (for example, stochastic control, PDE control, etc.), where even concisely crafted proofs cannot fit into the said page limit, are also welcome, as long as their initial quality is high and permits editorial processing that typically takes no more than two rounds of review. (Initial quality refers to originality, relevance, correctness, clarity of exposition, and comprehensive awareness of literature in the paper's first draft.)Following the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment, signed by Elsevier and over 2,000 organizations and 16,000 researchers, authors of submissions to SCL should cite primary literature, in which observations are first reported, rather than limiting themselves to citing surveys and predominantly recent contributions. Additionally, geographically limited perspectives on the literature are not appropriate for submissions to a global journal like SCL. This policy aims for a proper attribution of credit, authors' adequate assessment of their own contributions, and those undertaking follow-up research effort not being misguided regarding the state of the art on a topic to which they will dedicate much time and their career hopes. The editors may reject an article containing such lapses, either after the deficiencies are not corrected to the editors' satisfaction upon being pointed out by editors or reviewers, or immediately upon submission if the deficiencies require a degree of editorial input that is more commonly associated with acting as a co-author than as an editor or reviewer.

The journal recognises the value of interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches to investigate and better understand the complex scientific and societal issues facing the world's drylands, as well as original single-discipline research. Papers must represent rigorous research from and specifically relevant to hyper-arid, arid, semi-arid or dry-subhumid environments, into past, present, or future conditions.Papers must have international relevance, and address clearly stated aims, hypotheses, or research questions. The journal does not accept case studies. A case study is a report or research that applies existing knowledge to a specific context or place, and does not advance knowledge or its research field sufficiently to have appeal to an international audience.

    Affiliated to the International Union of RadioecologyThe Journal of Environmental Radioactivity provides a coherent international forum for publication of original research or review papers on any aspect of the occurrence of radioactivity in natural systems.Relevant subject areas range from applications of environmental radionuclides as mechanistic or timescale tracers of natural processes to assessments of the radioecological or radiological effects of ambient radioactivity. Papers deal with naturally occurring nuclides or with those created and released by man through nuclear weapons manufacture and testing, energy production, fuel-cycle technology, etc. Reports on radioactivity in the oceans, sediments, rivers, lakes, groundwaters, soils, atmosphere and all divisions of the biosphere are welcomed, but these should not simply be of a monitoring nature unless the data are particularly innovative.Research papers are also included which, by either experimental or theoretical approaches, aim towards an improved understanding of the behaviour, transfer and distribution of environmental radionuclides. Predictive modelling is particularly encouraged. Papers on dating methods are acceptable if they have clear geophysical or geochemical significance. Descriptions of experimental methods should be both highly original and specifically related to determination of low-level environmental activities.The journal provides a vehicle for objective, open and peer-reviewed publication and discussion of the more “controversial” aspects of environmental radioactivity, including assessments of health effects, criteria for discharge control and options for ultimate disposal of nuclear wastes. Publication in this field is also encouraged in the related book series Radioactivity in the Environment designed to complement the coverage of the journal.

For work to add to this primary objective, it is not sufficient that the mathematical reasoning be new and correct. The work must have real economic content.
