Biochemical Systematics and Ecology
Biochemical Systematics and Ecology is devoted to the publication of original papers and reviews, both submitted and invited, in two subject areas: I) the application of biochemistry to problems relating to systematic biology of organisms (biochemical systematics); II) the role of biochemistry in interactions between organisms or between an organism and its environment (biochemical ecology).In the Biochemical Systematics subject area, comparative studies of the distribution of (secondary) metabolites within a wider taxon (e.g., genus or family) are welcome. Comparative studies, encompassing multiple accessions of each of the taxa within their distribution are particularly encouraged. Welcome are also studies combining classical chemophenetic studies (such as comparative HPLC-MS or GC-MS investigations) with (macro-) molecular phylogenetic studies. Studies that involve the comparative use of compounds to help differentiate among species such as adulterants or substitutes that illustrate the applied use of chemophenetics are welcome. In contrast, studies solely employing macromolecular phylogenetic techniques (gene sequences, RAPD studies etc.) will be considered out of scope. Discouraged are manuscripts that report known or new compounds from a single source taxon without addressing a systematic hypothesis. Also considered out of scope are studies using outdated and hard to reproduce macromolecular techniques such as RAPDs in combination with standard chemophenetic techniques such as GC-FID and GC-MS.In the Biochemical Ecology subject area, studies addressing the role compounds play in the ecology of the organisms producing them are invited. Moreover, manuscripts that address hypothesis associated with the influence of factors such as altitude, geography, and seasonal variation on the expression of primary and secondary metabolites are encouraged. Research papers should generally represent a complete investigation and not preliminary data. Preliminary reports will only be considered where findings are of sufficient interest to justify rapid publication. New Source Reports will only be considered in cases where a significant chemophenetic or ecological finding is reported. Zoology
Zoology is a journal devoted to experimental and comparative animal science. It presents a common forum for all scientists who take an explicitly organism oriented and integrative approach to the study of animal form, function, development and evolution. The journal invites papers that take a comparative or experimental approach to behavior and neurobiology, functional morphology, evolution and development, ecological physiology, and cell biology. Limnologica
Limnologica publishes peer-reviewed articles that provide new insights into biological, physical and chemical aspects of freshwater ecosystems and adjacent habitats, both from basic and applied research. We welcome original contributions and reviews to understanding mechanisms that govern ecosystem responses to environmental change (e.g. trophic state, climate, usage, impoundment) or to problem-solving (e.g. ecological engineering, bioindication, restoration and conservation) as well as contributions on aquatic ecosystems or world regions that have been less frequently studied. The Extractive Industries and Society
The Extractive Industries and Society is the one journal devoted to disseminating in-depth analysis of the socio-economic and environmental impacts of mining and oil and gas production on societies, both past and present. It provides a platform for the exchange of ideas on a wide range of issues and debates on the extractive industries and development, bringing together research undertaken by an interdisciplinary group of social scientists in academia, government, the NGO community and industry. Topics covered by the journal include environmental management at mines and rigs; Corporate Social Responsibility and community development; the environmental and social impacts of artisanal and small-scale mining in developing countries; corruption and the extractive industries; industry reform; the donor community and the extractive industries; climate change and fossil fuel extraction; and taxation and foreign direct investment in the sector. Systematic and Applied Microbiology deals with various aspects of microbial diversity and systematics of prokaryotes. Environmental Impact Assessment Review
Environmental Impact Assessment Review (EIA Review) is a refereed, interdisciplinary journal serving a global audience of practitioners, policy-makers, regulators, academics and others with an interest in the field of impact assessment (IA) and management. Impact assessment is defined by the International Association for Impact Assessment (www.iaia.org) as the process of identifying the future consequences of a current or proposed action.For EIA Review, the field of IA can be related to as the assessment of impacts on or of the environment (including, for example, EIA and SEA), social (SIA), health (HIA), risk (RIA), human rights, equity, language, technology, products, etc. With current or proposed actions, the EIA Review audience assesses how best to evaluate the impacts of policies, projects, processes and products, and how best to make decisions and undertake management activities.The focus of EIA Review is on innovative theory and practice that encompasses any of the above mentioned impacts and activities. In other words, EIA Review covers the following topics (the list is not exhaustive):• Development of IA theory and concepts; • IA legislation, procedure and practice; • IA Governance; • IA Methods, for example, forecasting, indicators, systems-based approaches, ecosystem services assessment, cost benefit analysis, algorithms, network-based approaches, among others; • Life Cycle Assessment, Carbon Footprinting, Energy Analysis, Emergy Analysis, and Integrated Product Policy; • Environmental Management Systems.Despite its name EIA Review is not restricted to review articles. However, it aims to publish only contributions that are innovative, topical and coherent and submissions are judged on these criteria by one of the editors, in consultation with an international advisory board. All submissions go through a blind peer-review process using a minimum of two reviewers prior to acceptance.EIA Review does accept original research that might adopt a case study design or methodology, but it does not accept reports or descriptions solely of IA case studies that use existing methods (i.e. not innovative) in a single jurisdiction context with no wider learning points. Thus case studies are welcome where they explicitly demonstrate innovative theory or practice, and where there is a clear value to an international audience.Authors are encouraged to consider recent articles in the journal to get a sense of how the editorial team judges potential manuscripts in terms of their innovation, contribution and approach.We encourage those interested in organizing a special issue or a virtual special issue within the scope of the journal to contact the EiC or [email protected] for more information.
