A Journal Devoted to Scientific and Technological Aspects of Industrially Relevant PolysaccharidesCarbo... Polymers is a major journal within the field of glycoscience, and covers the study and exploitation of polysaccharides which have current or potential application in areas such as bioenergy, bioplastics, biomaterials, biorefining, chemistry, drug delivery, food, health, nanotechnology, packaging, paper, pharmaceuticals, medicine, oil recovery, textiles, tissue engineering and wood, and other aspects of glycoscience. The role of the well-characterized carbohydrate polymer must be the major proportion of the work reported, not a peripheral topic. At least one named carbohydrate polymer must be cited and be the main focus of the paper and its title. Research must be innovative and advance scientific knowledge.Characteri... - For all polysaccharides or their derivatives, including those obtained from a supplier, essential structural information which will affect their behavior in the subsequent work should be given, along with a description of how that information was ascertained. Editors are unlikely to send papers for formal review if the glycan is not adequately characterized. Please read the guidelines Characterization of carbohydrates and related products carefully as it contains all relevant information.Hypothes... - Nearly all scientific papers benefit from inclusion of a statement of hypothesis. Such statements should be concise, declarative, and should describe the one or more key hypotheses that the studies upon which the manuscript is based were intended to confirm or refute. Inclusion of a hypothesis statement makes it simple to contrast the hypothesis with the most relevant previous literature and point out what the authors feel is distinct about the current hypothesis (novelty). It also permits the authors to describe why they feel it would be important to prove the hypothesis correct (significance).Topic... of interest to the journal: structure-property relationships analytical methods chemical, enzymatic and physical modifications biosynthesis natural functions interactions with other materialsTopics not of interest to the journal: Bibliometric reviews Studies that involve only modelling without any comparison of model results with experimental data, either carried out by the authors or from the literature. biological, physiological and pharmacological aspects of non-carbohydrate molecules attached to, or mixed with, carbohydrate polymers, unless the polysaccharide has a relevant and specific role materials science of biocomposites where there is no mention of any specific carbohydrate polymer, or the role of the carbohydrate polymer is not the major proportion of the study polyalkanoates, polylactic acid, or lignin routine studies of extraction yields without characterisation of the extracted polysaccharide under the different conditions studies of complexation of a drug with a single cyclodextrin studies of newly discovered natural polysaccharides or new polysaccharide derivatives where the structure of the polysaccharide (derivative) is unknown production and isolation of enzymes which act on polysaccharides (studies on the mode of action of an enzyme on a polysaccharide are within the journal scope)carbohydrate oligomers where the degree of polymerization is equal to or less than four treatments of cotton fabrics and cellulose-based paper where the research is largely not about the component cellulose itself use of carbohydrate polymers as a support material (e.g. in enzyme immobilization, chromatography, etc.) where there is no specific involvement of the chemistry of the carbohydrate polymer production of chars from polysaccharides, regardless of the application to which the char will be used. Such manuscripts are out of scope since they do not focus on the science of well-characterized polysaccharidesStudi... of routine preparation of polysaccharides such as cellulose nanocrystals or cellulose nanofibers where the focus is on preparation from a particular plant source, including “new” plant sources, rather than advancing the science of polysaccharide structure, properties, and synthetic methods.Carbohydrate Polymers has an open access companion journal, Carbohydrate Polymer Technologies and Applications, which is devoted to scientific and technological aspects and applications of polymers and oligomers containing carbohydrate.

  • Analytica Chimica Acta

    • ISSN: 0003-2670
An International Journal Devoted to All Branches of Analytical ChemistryAnalytica Chimica Acta provides a forum for the rapid publication of original research, and critical, comprehensive reviews dealing with all aspects of fundamental and applied modern analytical chemistry. The journal welcomes the submission of research papers which report studies concerning the development of new and significant analytical methodologies. In determining the suitability of submitted articles for publication, particular scrutiny will be placed on the degree of novelty and impact of the research and the extent to which it adds to the existing body of knowledge in analytical chemistry.Manuscript... detailing fundamental research on all aspects of analytical chemistry theory and methodology (including chemometric techniques), such as innovative instrumental, chemical and biological approaches, detectors and sensors, sample treatment methods and data treatment that truly demonstrate new principles and/or important applications are especially encouraged. Analytica Chimica Acta focuses on fundamental new developments in analytical chemistry in general and discourages specialized application oriented submissions that are of interest to a limited number of readers. Papers describing the direct use of routine analytical methodologies or their straightforward/incr... extension of these methods to new sample matrices will normally be rejected unless new and important developments are described which can be demonstrated to give obvious and quantifiable advantages over existing approaches. In all submissions to the journal, authors must address the question of how their proposed methodology compares with those previously reported for the analytes in question even if they employed different techniques. The journal does not focus on application papers, especially those that are straightforward utilizations of commercial instrumentation or other existing techniques, regardless of how complex and expensive they may be. If submitted, application papers must clearly demonstrate a high level of general importance and interest to the analytical chemistry community at large. It will normally be expected that where new analytical methodologies and developments are described these will be applied to a sample matrix of suitable analytical complexity. In such cases appropriate validation of the method must be provided, together with proper statistical treatment of data. Analytical performance characteristics of new methodologies must be given, including calibration, sensitivity, detection limits, accuracy, precision, and interferences. They must also clearly demonstrate substantial superiority in some important respect over existing alternatives.Reviews are normally written by prior agreement of the reviews editors. Potential authors are encouraged to discuss the subject matter of a proposed review with the review editor, and will be asked to provide a brief outline of the subject matter of the proposed review. Review articles should be sufficiently broad in scope to appeal to a wide cross-section of the journal's readership, but should be specific enough to permit discussion to be made at an appropriate depth. Basic methodology and principles should not be included in reviews, but suitable reference should be made to sources of this information. Above all, reviews should be critical rather than enumerative and should provide the reader with expert opinion regarding the relative merits of the various published approaches to the topic under review. Figures and Tables are encouraged in review articles. Tutorials describing the fundamental principles and practical operational details of a given analytical technique, sample processing approach or chemometric method are also welcome. Perspectives are short articles (max 5,000 words), usually from a single author, that provide a particular viewpoint pertaining to analytical chemistry. At least initially, this will not be an open submission process but, instead, these will be solicited (by invite only) from individuals of high scientific merit and/or influence by the perspective editor. While they should strive for objectivity, their main focus is on the individual viewpoint, and as such may advocate the importance of a particular avenue of scientific investigation, analytical method, or field of application. Perspective manuscripts are typically reviewed by editors or members of the editorial board.Manuscripts are considered for publication in Analytica Chimica Acta only on the basis that the work is original and unpublished. The editors and publisher are fundamentally opposed to any form of duplication and plagiarism and if discovered, not only will the manuscript be immediately rejected, the corresponding author(s) could be banned from future submissions to any Elsevier journal. Depending on the severity of the offense, the incident may also be reported to the responsible authorities at the corresponding author's institution(s).
  • Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling

    • ISSN: 1093-3263
The Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling is devoted to the publication of papers on the uses of computers in theoretical investigations of molecular structure, function, interaction, and design. The scope of the journal includes all aspects of molecular modeling and computational chemistry, including, for instance, the study of molecular shape and properties, molecular simulations, protein and polymer engineering, drug design, materials design, structure-activity and structure-property relationships, database mining, and compound library design. As a primary research journal, JMGM seeks to bring new knowledge to the attention of our readers. As such, submissions to the journal need to not only report results, but must draw conclusions and explore implications of the work presented. Authors are strongly encouraged to bear this in mind when preparing manuscripts. Routine applications of standard modelling approaches, providing only very limited new scientific insight, will not meet our criteria for publication. Reproducibility of reported calculations is an important issue. Wherever possible, we urge authors to enhance their papers with Supplementary Data, for example, in QSAR studies machine-readable versions of molecular datasets or in the development of new force-field parameters versions of the topology and force field parameter files. Routine applications of existing methods that do not lead to genuinely new insight will not be considered.JMGM is published in association with two of the largest and most active professional societies in the field: the Molecular Graphics and Modelling Society (MGMS) and the Computers in Chemistry (COMP) Division of the American Chemical Society. Several thousand computational chemists worldwide belong to these two societies and any research topic that may of interest to the membership is within the wide scope of the journal. It is not necessary to be a member of these professional societies to publish in the journal.Published in association with the Molecular Graphics and Modelling Society www.mgms.org and the ACS Division of Computers in Chemistry.
  • Microchemical Journal

    • ISSN: 0026-265X
Microchemical Journal is a rigorous, yet supportive peer-reviewed journal covering all aspects and phases of Analytical Chemistry, including sampling, sample pre-treatment, measurement and data analysis. The Microchemical Journal publishes articles which are at the forefront of modern analytical chemistry and cover innovations in the techniques to the finest possible limits. This includes Fundamental Aspects, Instrumentation, Mass Spectrometry, Chromatography and Electrophoresis Separations, Microscale and Nanoscale Systems, Omics (Proteomics and Metabolomics), Sensors and Sensing (Single-molecule sensors, Microfluidic systems, Biosensors), Chemometrics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Imaging, and original applications concerning clinical, environmental, industrial, food, forensic, and heritage fields.Electroanalyt... and optical sensors, separation methods, spectroscopy, electroanalytical methods and all new procedures for inorganic, organic, biochemical molecules and micro-organisms detection and quantification are welcome. However, manuscripts must provide significant improvements and novelty compared to the established methods. The journal does not consider routine analytical method applications in such areas as classical and new materials characterization, pharmaceutical, model environmental pollutant (e.g. dye and antibiotic detection and degradation), and industrial quality control. Routine, incremental studies without innovative analytical chemical methodologies (e.g. different reagents but no new analytical approaches or detection problems), superficial analytical chemistry discussions and analyses, and fragmentation of work are strongly discouraged. In any case, applications to real sample analysis instead of the use of spiked ones are preferred. The journal was established in the late 1950s as a medium devoted to the developing field of microchemistry. As the area of microchemistry has moved into analyses in microgram masses and micro volumes (and lower), low detection limits, and sophisticated and compact instrumentation, the Microchemical Journal has continued to evolve and change with this growing and expanding area, covering nowadays analytical chemical research in its broadest sense, including micro-organisms identification and quantification, miniaturization, automation, the use of nanomaterials and smart materials-based methodologies for sample preparation and analyte determination, and application of AI-based, deep/machine learning chemometrics in its broadest sense, considering also those regarding -omics studies, big data, artificial intelligence and hyperspectral imaging. The journal will publish special issues devoted to hot topics, inviting the most productive and active researchers. Besides full research articles, Critical Review papers, Short Communications, Tutorials and Technical Notes are also considered.
