  • Bretherick's Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards

    • 4th Edition
    • L. Bretherick
    • English
Bretherick's Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards, Fourth Edition, has been prepared and revised to give access to a wide and up-to-date selection of documented information to research students, practicing chemists, safety officers, and others concerned with the safe handling and use of reactive chemicals. This will allow ready assessment of the likely potential for reaction hazards which may be associated with an existing or proposed chemical compound or reaction system. A secondary, longer-term purpose is to present the information in a way which will, as far as possible, bring out the causes of, and interrelationships between, apparently disconnected facts and incidents. This handbook includes all information which had become available to the author by April 1989 on the reactivity hazards of individual elements or compounds, either alone or in combination. It begins with an introductory chapter that provides an overview of the complex subject of reactive chemical hazards, drawing attention to the underlying principles and to some practical aspects of minimizing such hazards. This is followed by two sections: Section 1 provides detailed information on the hazardous properties of individual chemicals, either alone or in combination with other compounds; the entries in Section 2 are of two distinct types. The first type of entry gives general information on the hazardous behavior of some recognizably discrete classes or groups of the 4,600 or so individual compounds for which details are given in Section 1. The second type of entry concerns reactive hazard topics, techniques, or incidents which have a common theme or pattern of behavior involving compounds of several different groups, so that no common structural feature exists for the compounds involved.

The book's authors builds a framework for developing various sustainable technologies for sewage sludge treatment and disposal, including advanced dewatering through chemical conditioning, solidification/stabi... reuse for the development of construction and building materials, anaerobic bioenergy recovery, sanitary landfill, and odor control.
  • Petroleum Waste Treatment and Pollution Control

    • 1st Edition
    • Shahryar Jafarinejad
    • English
Petroleum Waste Treatment and Pollution Control combines state-of-the-art and traditional treatment and control methods for removing, controlling, and treating problems, such as groundwater contamination, aromatics, oil, grease, organic removal, and VOCs. The book is divided into seven chapters, with the first briefly introducing readers to the petroleum industry. The second and third chapters explain wastes in the petroleum industry and focus on its environmental impact, its regulations, and protection options. Chapters four, five, and six discuss the treatment of air emissions, oily wastewater, solid wastes, and disposal methods.. The final chapter provides remediation processes.

  • The J & P Transformer Book

A Practical Technology of the Power Transformer
    • 11th Edition
    • A. C. Franklin + 1 more
    • C. A. Worth
    • English
The J&P Transformer Book, 11th Edition deals with the design, installation, and maintenance of transformers. The book contains technical information, tables, calculations, diagrams, and illustrations based on information supplied by transformer manufacturers and related industries. It reviews fundamental transformer principles, the magnetic circuit, the characteristics of, and general types of transformers. The text contains tables showing the information that should be given to the transformer manufacturer to be used as a basis in preparing quotations. Transformer designs include three important distinct circuits to minimize losses: the electric, the magnetic, and the dielectric circuits. The book emphasizes that the maximum efficiency of any transformer occurs at the load at which the iron loss equals the copper loss. The text also discusses how the maximum overall operating economy of transformer substations, especially those with several transformers operating in parallel, can be effected by reducing the total transformation losses to a minimum under all loading conditions. The book is an essential reference for architects, system planners, or electrical engineers concerned with design, installation, and maintenance of transformers. It can also prove useful for electrical engineering students.
