Cognition
International Journal of Cognitive ScienceCognition is an international journal that publishes theoretical and experimental papers on the study of the mind. It covers a wide variety of subjects concerning all the different aspects of cognition, ranging from experimental studies of behavior and of the brain to formal analysis.Papers will be selected on the basis of their scientific quality, their degree of innovation and their unambiguous theoretical advance to the study of cognition. Paper's overall soundness of the argument and degree of empirical motivation, especially from converging sources, are more important than adherence to specific methodological principles. Studies that selectively focus on the cognitive and neural mechanisms that underlie problems with cognition in clinical populations or on purely methodological questions fall outside the scope of Cognition. Because Cognition enjoys a wide readership from many disciplines, authors should explicitly consider the general theoretical issues raised by their work and its relevance to other topics and methods. Materials should describe work done and methods used in a clear and explicit manner (allowing reproduction of the methods by others).

Cognitive Systems Research is dedicated to the study of human-level cognition. As such, it welcomes papers which advance the understanding, design and applications of cognitive and intelligent systems, both natural and artificial.The journal brings together a broad community studying cognition in its many facets in vivo and in silico, across the developmental spectrum, focusing on individual capacities or on entire architectures. It aims to foster debate and integrate ideas, concepts, constructs, theories, models and techniques from across different disciplines and different perspectives on human-level cognition. The scope of interest includes the study of cognitive capacities and architectures - both brain-inspired and non-brain-inspired - and the application of cognitive systems to real-world problems as far as it offers insights relevant for the understanding of cognition.Cognitive Systems Research therefore welcomes mature and cutting-edge research approaching cognition from a systems-oriented perspective, both theoretical and empirically-informed... in the form of original manuscripts, short communications, opinion articles, systematic reviews, and topical survey articles from the fields of Cognitive Science (including Philosophy of Cognitive Science), Artificial Intelligence/Compute... Science, Cognitive Robotics, Developmental Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience and Neuromorphic Engineering. Empirical studies will be considered if they are supplemented by theoretical analyses and contributions to theory development and/or computational modelling studies. Note that the journal does not publish clinical and medical papers. We also do not publish pure machine learning papers, e.g. studies proposing variants of classifiers or pure algorithmic improvements that bear no connection to cognitive systems research in the sense above.Additionally, Cognitive Systems Research plays a special role in fostering and promoting the 'BICA Challenge' to create a real-life computational equivalent of the human mind by devoting two special issues to BICA AI (Brain-Inspired Cognitive Architectures for Artificial Intelligence) related topics each year.

Computers & Education
Computers & Education aims to increase knowledge and understanding of ways in which digital technology can enhance education, through the publication of high-quality research, which extends theory and practice. The Editors welcome research papers on the pedagogical uses of digital technology, where the focus is broad enough to be of interest to a wider education community.We do not publish small-scale evaluations of specific software/systems in specialist domains or particular courses in individual institutions (unless the findings have broader relevance that is explicitly drawn out in the paper). Papers that include discussions of the implementation of software and/or hardware should focus on the context of use, the user/system interface, usability issues and evaluations of the user experience and impacts on and particularly on the implications for learning and teaching. Computers as a delivery platform only is insufficient. Detailed information on implementation architecture should NOT be included in the paper, but may be provided via URLs.We welcome systematic review papers and meta-analyses that include clear research questions, a framework of analysis, and conclusions that reflect the aims of the paper. See PRISMA guidelines for further advice.Authors should take care to refer to and abide by the author guidelines. Papers that do not address the criteria outlined in the author guidelines will be returned without review. Authors are also welcome to submit to the journal's open access companion titles, Computers & Education Open or Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence.

Computers & Operations Research is a privileged forum for state-of-the-art work exploring the theory and practice of Operations Research (OR) intertwined with advanced computational methodologies. The journal publishes high-quality innovative and impactful research articles in theories, modeling, algorithms, and applications of Operations Research.Since its first volume was printed in 1974, the journal has promoted different OR application areas that include but are not limited to Transportation, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain Management. Methods; Machine Learning and Data Science. The journal also publishes state-of-the-art surveys and best practice guides in Analytics, Operations Research, and Management Science. These articles are printed in a special section, “Surveys in Operations Research and Management Science”. Submissions can focus on theory or applications of OR/MS and can be of several types, including but not limited to: 1. Results that are considered standards by experts in the community but which have not been documented in textbooks; 2. Standard results which have been, in some way, streamlined, such as, for example, new proof techniques leading to more elegant derivations of known results; 3. New developments in methodology or new application areas ('hot topics'). A survey should be critical with respect to the existing knowledge and should focus on computational and algorithmic aspects. The journal publishes focused issues on topics of interest related to its editorial mission. Such issues typically contain between six and twelve articles. They are put together within an eighteen-month period under the responsibility of one or several guest editors. Submissions that do not satisfy these criteria may be rejected without being sent to reviewers.All full-length research papers published in the journal must demonstrate constructive algorithmic complexity and extensive numerical experiments. Numerical illustrations (examples) are not sufficient: the numerical experiments must have a scientific value of their own, particularly with comparisons to other approaches. The use of real-world data is also valued. In CAOR, (meta)Heuristics other than well-established algorithms such as evolutionary algorithms or ant colony optimization must be described in metaphor-free language. This is a way to ensure that they are immediately comparable to existing algorithms. The Harvard style is adopted in the journal for the bibliography. Authors should consider this while preparing their manuscripts, especially when preparing tables and charts involving bibliography references.The highly innovative contributions targeted by the journal prevent it from endorsing papers that present long and unsolvable formulations for variants or extensions of existing problems and then resort to a well-established approximate method to find approximate solutions.
