To this end coverage is given to a range of topics that includes:•Essential mechanics of processes involving material removal, accretion and deformation, in solid, semi-solid or particulate form •Significant scientific development of existing or new processes and machines •In-depth characterisation of workpiece materials (structure/surfaces) by advanced techniques (e.g. SEM, EDS, TEM, EBSD, AES, Raman spectroscopy) to reveal new phenomenological aspects that govern manufacturing processes •Tool design, utilisation and in-depth studies of failure mechanisms •Novel concepts of machine tools/fixtures/tool holders supported by modelling and demonstrations that are relevant to manufacturing processes within the journal's remit •Novel scientific contributions dealing with interactions between the machine tool, control system, software design and processes. •Studies of specific mechanisms governing niche processes (e.g. ultra-high precision, nano /atomic level manufacturing with either mechanical or non-mechanical "tools") •Novel approaches, supported by adequate in-depth scientific analysis, addressing emerging /breakthrough processes (e.g. bio-inspired manufacturing) and/or applications (e.g. ultra-high precision optics)The above list is not exhaustive and papers on other topics associated with process science/technology or manufacturing hardware are welcome. Significant and useful advance of the current state of knowledge is an essential factor and it is important that papers are presented in a manner that will be appreciated by both academics and practising engineers. It is unlikely that papers dealing with theory or modelling alone will be acceptable, unless a significant proven advance in scientific/technolog... knowledge is demonstrated. Likewise, papers in which the use of methodology predominates over technological advance would probably be rejected. Normally, multipart papers are not acceptable.

The journal provides a means of communication between scientists in different disciplines who share a common interest in the electronic excited states of molecular, ionic and covalent systems, whether crystalline, amorphous, or liquid. Submissions in the traditional areas of optical spectroscopy (absorption, magnetic circular dichroism, luminescence, Raman scattering, radiative & non-radiative relaxation) are welcome. With this in mind, it is important that the contribution offer a substantial result that will have a lasting effect upon the field. The journal also seeks work that presents innovative techniques that offer promising results for future research.The Computational Algebra Section provides an appropriate forum for contributions which make use of computer calculations and to broaden the scope of the Journal.The following papers are particularly welcome in the Computational Algebra section of the Journal of Algebra: Results obtained by computer calculations - to be suitable for publication such results must represent a major advance of mathematics. It is not sufficient to extend previous computations by means of higher computer power. Rather the contribution has to exhibit new methods and mathematical results to be accepted. Classifications of specific algebraic structures (in form of tables, if appropriate), which are not easily obtained and are useful to the algebraic community. Description and outcome of experiments, to put forward new conjectures, to support existing conjectures, or to give counter examples to existing conjectures. Papers emphasizing the constructive aspect of algebra, such as description and analysis of new algorithms (not program listings, nor, in the first instance, discussions of software development issues), improvements and extensions of existing algorithms, description of computational methods which are not algorithms in the strict sense (since, e.g., they need not terminate). Interactions between algebra and computer science, such as automatic structures, word problems and other decision problems in groups and semigroups, preferably, but not necessarily, with an emphasis on practicality, implementations, and performance of the related algorithms.
