Transfusion and Apheresis Science
Official Journal of the World Apheresis Association, Turkish Society of Apheresis, European Society for Haemapheresis and Società Italiana di Emaferesi e Manipolazione CellulareTransfusion and Apheresis Science brings comprehensive and up-to-date information to physicians and health care professionals involved in the rapidly changing fields of transfusion medicine, hemostasis and apheresis. The journal presents original articles relating to scientific and clinical studies in the areas of immunohematology, transfusion practice, bleeding and thrombotic disorders and both therapeutic and donor apheresis including hematopoietic stem cells. Topics covered include the collection and processing of blood, compatibility testing and guidelines for the use of blood products, as well as screening for and transmission of blood-borne diseases. All areas of apheresis - therapeutic and collection - are also addressed. We would like to specifically encourage allied health professionals in this area to submit manuscripts that relate to improved patient and donor care, technical aspects and educational issues.Transfusion and Apheresis Science features a "Theme" section which includes, in each issue, a group of papers designed to review a specific topic of current importance in transfusion and hemostasis for the discussion of topical issues specific to apheresis and focuses on the operators' viewpoint. Another section is "What's Happening" which provides informal reporting of activities in the field. In addition, brief case reports and Letters to the Editor, as well as reviews of meetings and events of general interest, and a listing of recent patents make the journal a complete source of information for practitioners of transfusion, hemostasis and apheresis science. Methods
Methods publishes original review and research articles that cover emerging methodology in many areas of life and health sciences. The research areas covered by Methods include, but are not limited to,• Biochemistry and biophysics • Cell, molecular, and developmental biology and genetics • Computational biology and bioinformatics • Medicinal chemistry, biological chemistry, and biophysical chemistry • Microbiology, immunology, and virology • Physiology and pathology • Bioengineering, biomedical engineering, and biochemical engineering • Biomaterials, natural products, and materials science • Therapeutics and diagnostics, biosensors, and devicesMethods publishes original research on methodologies with a significant experimental component. Computational, AI, and machine learning approaches should uncover novel biological insights and must be experimentally validated. Purely theoretical studies or computational work with minimal experimental support are outside the journal’s scope. Methods remains a key resource for advancing innovative, experimentally driven scientific techniques. Review articles are also considered for publication in Methods, and all review manuscripts must accompany 1) a summary of previous reviews on relevant topics and 2) a statement of the timely needs of the review, significant contributions and new insights offered by the submission, and experts’ opinions and perspectives in a new and innovative point of view. These must be provided in the “Highlights” page as well as in the opening section of the manuscript itself. Lacking these components will lead to an administrative rejection of the submission.Methods especially welcomes contributions from Guest Editors or authors who are underrepresented in regard to gender, career stage, or geographical location and contributions focused on underrecognized areas of research.There are several types of issues published by Methods:Thematic issues are organized by a Guest Editor who is a recognized expert in the research area. The Guest Editor may have co-Guest Editors. The issues consist solely of invited review articles or original research articles of high quality by authors with expertise in the field. Issues are devoted to specific methods or a variety of methods to investigate a particular research question, with emphasis on clear descriptions of recent advances. Background information is provided in the articles to further an understanding of the principles underlying the methods. Other sections of the articles include key protocols, comparisons of alternative methods, the advantages and disadvantages of particular methods, guidance on avoiding potential pitfalls, and suggestions for troubleshooting.Geog... institutional/organi... and event issues publish articles that cover advances in research methods at universities, research institutes, and scientific societies in a particular geographical region, by a notable institution and society anywhere worldwide, or at a conference of significant interest. These issues are organized by a Guest Editor (sometimes with co-Guest Editors) who is a research leader in the geographical region, at the institution/society, or involved with the event. As in the thematic issues, the articles in these issues consist of concise overviews of methodology, comparisons of alternative methods with advantages and limitations, research questions to give further consideration, and perspectives.Editor'... Collections publish non-solicited, high-quality review or research articles in any of the research areas that are within the scope of Methods. It is open for non-invited authors to submit directly to the journal and choose the article type “VSI: Open for all—Editors’ Collection” from the drop-down menu. Harmful Algae
This journal provides a forum to promote knowledge of harmful microalgae and macroalgae, including cyanobacteria, as well as monitoring, management and control of these organisms. Both original research and review papers will be considered.Papers dealing with the following aspects of harmful microalgae and cyanobacteria in marine and fresh waters will be considered: • The distribution, life histories and taxonomy of harmful microalgae; • The physiology and toxicology of harmful microalgae; • Harmful microalgal bloom ecology; • Trophic, socio-economic, public health and aquacultural impacts of harmful microalgal bloom events; • Occurrence, methods of detection and chemical structure of toxins in harmful microalgae, cyanobacteria, foodwebs and seafood; • Factors controlling toxin production, biosynthesis and chemical ecology.Note: Papers dealing with pharmacology fall outside of the scope of the journal.All papers will be subject to peer review. The Official Journal of the European Society of Preventive, Regenerative and Anti-aging Medicine (ESAAM) Mechanisms of Ageing and Development is a multidisciplinary journal aimed at revealing the molecular, biochemical and biological mechanisms that underlie the processes of ageing and development in various species as well as of age-associated diseases. Emphasis is placed on investigations that delineate the contribution of macromolecular damage and cytotoxicity, genetic programs, epigenetics and genetic instability, mitochondrial function, alterations of metabolism and innovative anti-aging approaches. For all of the mentioned studies it is necessary to address the underlying mechanisms. Purely descriptive or correlative or case studies as well as various -omics data not linked to functional analyses are not considered.Mechanism... of Ageing and Development publishes original research, review and mini-review articles. BBA Gene Regulatory Mechanisms includes reports that describe novel insights into mechanisms of transcriptional, post-transcriptional and translational gene regulation. Special emphasis is placed on papers that identify epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation, including chromatin, modification, and remodeling. This section also encompasses mechanistic studies of regulatory proteins and protein complexes; regulatory or mechanistic aspects of RNA processing; regulation of expression by small RNAs; genomic analysis of gene expression patterns; and modeling of gene regulatory pathways. Papers describing gene promoters, enhancers, silencers or other regulatory DNA regions must incorporate significant functions studies.The journal does not favorably review manuscripts identifying a miRNA-target pair without additional insights into the repression mechanism or significant advances in understanding regulatory pathways. Marine Environmental Research publishes original research papers on chemical, physical, and biological interactions in the oceans and coastal waters. The journal serves as a forum for new information on biology, chemistry, and toxicology and syntheses that advance understanding of marine environmental processes.Submission of multidisciplinary studies is encouraged. Studies that utilize experimental approaches to clarify the roles of anthropogenic and natural causes of changes in marine ecosystems are especially welcome, as are those studies that represent new developments of a theoretical or conceptual aspect of marine science.
