Basic information, principles, and applications are also covered, as well as more specialized video microscopy techniques.
  • Steels: Metallurgy and Applications

    • 3rd Edition
    • David Llewellyn + 1 more
    • English
STEELS: Metallurgy and Applications provides a metallurgical understanding of commercial steel grades and the design, manufacturing and service requirements that govern their application. The properties of different steels are described, detailing the effect of composition, processing and heat treatment. Where appropriate an introduction is given to standard specifications and design codes provided on component manufacture and property requirements for successful service performance. The book deals with steel products in some depth, in four chapters covering wide strip, structural steels, engineering and stainless steel grades. At the begining of each chapter an overview is given which details important features of the grades and a historical perspective of their development. Also featured are up to date information on steel prices and specifications.David Llewellyn has over thirty years experience in the steel industry and is currently lecturing in the Materials Engineering Department at University College Swansea.'..the book unfolds into an easily readable and a valuable source of highly relevant and contemporary information on steels' - METALS AND MATERIALS'.. a high quality product from all points of view' - INSTITUTE OF METALS AND MATERIALS AUSTRALASIA features up to date information on steel prices and specifications.
  • SMT Soldering Handbook

    • 2nd Edition
    • RUDOLF STRAUSS
    • English
Surface Mount Technology has had a profound influence on the electronics industry, and has led to the use of new materials, techniques and manufacturing processes. Since the first edition of this book was written, electronic assemblies have continued to become still smaller and more complex, while soldering still remains the dominant connecting technique. This is a comprehensive guide to current methods of soldering components to their substrates, written by one of the founding fathers of the technology. It also covers component placement, the post-CFC technology of cleaning after soldering, and the principles and methods of quality control and rework. New sections deal with Ball-Grid-Array (BGA) technology, lead-free solders, no-clean fluxes, and the current standard specifications for solders and fluxes. Dr Rudolf Strauss has spent most of his working life with a leading manufacturer of solders and fluxes. He was responsible for a number of innovations including the concept of wave soldering, and for many years has been active as lecturer, consultant, and technical author. His book explains the principles of soldering and surface mount technology in practical terms and plain language, free from jargon. It is addressed to the man, or woman, who has to do the job, but it will also be of help in planning manufacturing strategy and in making purchasing decisions relating to consumables and equipment.
  • Risk Assessment and Management in the Context of the Seveso II Directive

    • 1st Edition
    • Volume 6
    • Michalis D Christou + 1 more
    • Christian Kirchsteiger
    • English
The assessment and management of risk to society from the operation of chemical process plants and other industrial activities in which dangerous substances are produced, used, handled or stored will remain a topic of great importance in the next decade. In order to evaluate this specific risk on a qualitative and/or quantitative basis, the concepts of risk analyses are linked together in this book. The "performance based" and "goal oriented" regulatory requirements of the European Council's new "Seveso II Directive" for the identification of large scale industrial hazards, prevention of sudden and uncontrolled releases of dangerous substances from industrial plants and mitigation of serious consequences of industrial accidents to people and the environment are examined. The fact that risk assessment and management are key elements to such forms of regulation is also demonstrated. While the "Seveso II Directive" defines "what" has to be achieved on the control of major hazards involving dangerous substances within the European Union, the methods of risk assessment and management give guidance on "how" to achieve it. The text provides a practical guide for decision-makers in regulatory bodies and companies with a non-technical background. Scientists and engineers who are not yet familiar with the concepts of risk assessment and who want a survey of some fundamentals of, and principal results from, risk assessment studies and approaches primarily for applications in the context defined by the "Seveso Directives" will also find this book invaluable.
  • Dynamics and Control of Process Systems 1998 (2-Volume Set)

    • 1st Edition
    • C. Georgakis
    • English
The two volumes contain the Proceedings of the 5th IFAC DYCOPS Symposium that took place in Corfu, Greece between June 8-10, 1998. The Symposium was a continuation of the very successful series that used to be called DYCORD+, the last of which (DYCORD+ '95) took place in Denmark in 1995. It was sponsored by the IFAC Technical Committee on Chemical Process Control. The Symposium embraced the topic of Integration of Design and Control that had previously occurred as a separate IFAC workshop. The theme of "Technology Push vs. Technology Pull in the 21st Century" aimed to bring together researchers and developers of new methodologies (Technology Push) as well as users of these methodologies (Technology Pull). The major areas of interest were organized in the following categories: i) Reacting Process Systems, ii) Separation Process Systems, iii) Batch Process Systems, iv) Complex and Industrial Process Systems, and v) Interaction of Design and Control.
