Con esta metodología innovadora, la interacción docente-alumnado se inclina hacia una mayor intervención del estudiantado y fomentando el papel del profesorado como facilitador en la adquisición de los conocimientos y las destrezas por parte del estudiantado. Tiene una doble función: servir de material de estudio y de autoevaluación. La autoevaluación para determinar el nivel de conocimientos adquiridos se realiza a través de la resolución de casos clínicos comentados, con los que se valora el desarrollo de las habilidades a través de preguntas con respuestas argumentadas. El texto ha sido elaborado por un equipo de profesionales con amplia experiencia en la enfermería de la salud sexual y reproductiva, tanto en los ámbitos asistencial, docente y de gestión como en el de la investigación, que desarrollan su labor en diferentes universidades y centros sanitarios. Los temas que tratan son amplios y abarcan desde la exploración obstétrica hasta los cuidados en las complicaciones en el parto y el puerperio, sin descuidar un aspecto tan fundamental como los cuidados en la lactancia materna.
