Proposals submitted via any other means will not be considered for review. For more information on how to prepare and submit a SI proposal please check https://www.elsevier... and Scope As envisioned by Mark Weiser as early as 1991, pervasive computing systems and services have truly become integral to our daily lives. Tremendous advancements in a multitude of technologies ranging from personalized and embedded smart devices (e.g., smartphones, sensors, wearables, IoT) to ubiquitous connectivity through wireless mobile communications and cognitive networking infrastructures, to advanced computing techniques (including mobile edge/fog/cloud, data analytics and machine learning) and user-friendly middleware services and platforms have significantly contributed to the unprecedented advances in pervasive and mobile computing.Such cutting-edge pervasive technologies and paradigms have led to the convergence of cyber-physical-human systems with applications to smart environments (e.g., smart homes and cities, smart grid, smart transportation, smart health, smart agriculture) with the goal to improve human experience and quality of life without explicit awareness of the underlying communications and computing technologies. Additionally, the huge amount of (real-time) data collected via pervasive devices coupled with advanced data analytic, machine learning and AI (Artificial Intelligence) techniques for reliable prediction and decision-making are making breakthrough research in pervasive computing and applications, such as self-driving cars, predictive maintenance in the industry 4.0 environments, mobile recommendation systems, etc.The Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal (PMC) is a high-impact, peer-reviewed technical journal that publishes high-quality scientific articles spanning theory and practice, and covering all aspects of pervasive and mobile computing and systems. • Anthropocene

    • ISSN: 2213-3054
Anthropocene is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal answering questions about the nature, scale and extent of interactions between people and Earth processes and systems. The scope of the journal includes the significance of human activities in altering Earth's landscapes, oceans, the atmosphere, cryosphere, and ecosystems over a range of time and space scales - from global phenomena over geologic eras to single isolated events - including the linkages, couplings, and feedbacks among physical, chemical, biological, and social dimensions of Earth systems. The journal also addresses how such alterations can have profound effects on, and implications for, human society. As the scale and pace of human interactions with Earth systems have intensified in recent decades, understanding human-induced alterations in the past and present is critical to our ability to anticipate, mitigate, and adapt to changes in the future. The journal aims to provide a venue to focus research findings and debates toward advancing predictive understanding of sustainable human interactions with Earth systems-one of the grand challenges of our time. The journal seeks contributions focused on the following themes: How and when did past human interactions with Earth systems register in geologic and environmental records?Quantitative evidence and causes of large-scale human impacts; and illustrating their significance toward the future.Couplings among bio-physical and human processes, including environmental boundaries and societal responses to human-induced environmental change.Managing risk and developing solution-oriented pathways toward achieving human-environmental sustainability in the 'Anthropocene.'Anthr... welcomes the following types of manuscripts that meet the Aims and Scope of the journal:Original research articles pose and answer significant questions toward advancing understanding of human interactions with Earth systems. They are scientific articles that present a complete methododology, with discussion separated from the Results section. The research questions must appear explicitly (in the form of questions) early in the Introduction of the paper, and the Conclusion section must present clear answers to the questions. Substantial new data and analyses must also support these articles. The typical length of text is in the 5000-7000 word range. Research articles may include specific case studies if these studies demonstrate theoretical significance and broad systemic relevance.Review papers assess the state of knowledge and establish the broader significance of a particular subfield or topic. They must synthesize stated bodies of literature toward identification of future research needs and directions. These review articles, with a typical length within 8000 words, may include some new data or synthesis of existing data that produce new understanding.Viewpo... short communications address timely topics, comprising 2000-3000 words. These articles must articulate clear viewpoints toward stimulating reflection around relevant issues.
  • Journal of Water Process Engineering

    • ISSN: 2214-7144
AimsThe Journal of Water Process Engineering (JWPE) aspires to be the leading international platform for the dissemination of high-impact research on sustainable engineering solutions for water and wastewater treatment processes. It publishes rigorously peer-reviewed articles from researchers and practitioners actively engaged in the development and discovery of cost-effective technologies and engineering strategies in water and wastewater treatment. JWPE is fully aligned with and committed to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly “SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation."ScopeWat... process engineering involves the understanding and application of fundamental scientific principles to transform raw or wastewater sources into valuable products that benefit society while operating across laboratory, pilot, or full industrial scales. These valuable products include clean water, energy, and various resources. JWPE focuses on the design, operation, control, modelling, optimization, and intensification of processes relevant to water and wastewater treatment.Research that emphasizes the engineered applications and practices of water and wastewater treatment processes, as opposed to studies focused primarily on fundamental scientific principles or materials development, is particularly valued. JWPE encourages submissions of high-quality research articles and state-of-the-art reviews from both academic and industrial researchers and technologists. Given that water processing largely involves the efficient removal and detoxification of contaminants in various forms (soluble, colloidal, or suspended; inorganic or organic; degradable or refractory), applicable technologies can generally be classified into the main categories of chemical conversion, physical separation, and biological degradation. These processes are conducted within various reactors and systems, which must be carefully designed, optimized, operated and controlled, making these aspects another integral part of water process engineering. In addition, the development of water technologies and systems is increasingly integrated with sensing and monitoring tools, which should also be addressed within the scope of JWPE. As global challenges such as the energy/resource crisis and climate change become more pressing, the concept of “wastewater as a resource” has gained widespread recognition, and maximizing resource recovery is now a critical objective in water processing.Based on these considerations, JWPE welcomes submissions in the following areas of interest: Chemical and Catalytic Conversion ProcessesThis category encompasses processes for converting dissolved refractory contaminants and toxicants into mineralized and/or non-toxic substances through chemical and catalytic mechanisms:Advanced oxidation using novel oxidizing agentsPhotocatalysis employing innovative catalysts and light sourcesElectrochemic... processes (e.g., electrocatalysis, electrooxidation, electro-crystallizat... and non-catalytic processes associated with acoustic, cavitation, microwave, and plasma applicationsWater disinfection using novel disinfectants and methodsChemical digestion and precipitation Other emerging technologies and processes for chemical/catalytic conversionSeparation and Extraction ProcessesThis category focuses on the physical and physicochemical separation/extractio... of soluble, colloidal, and suspended contaminants from water and wastewater: Coagulation using novel coagulants/flocculan... and methodsEnhancement of physical separation processes (e.g., sedimentation, flotation, media filtration, centrifugation, decantation)Membrane filtration processes, including pressure-driven and osmotically-driven membranes Membrane reactors/contactors (e.g., membrane bioreactor, reactors/contactors using photocatalytic or electrocatalytic membranes, and membrane distillation)Adsorpt... and ion exchangeThermal extraction/distillat... for volatile substances extractionOther emerging technologies and processes for separation and extractionBiological and Ecological Processes This category addresses processes for the removal of biodegradable contaminants via biological and ecological methods:Enhancement of conventional biological processes (e.g., aerobic and anaerobic bioreactions, biofiltration)Biolog... processes for enhanced nutrient removalAnaerobic digestion for sludge disposalApplication of novel biotechnologies (e.g., microbial, fungal, molecular genetics) in water processingConstructe... wetlands for water treatmentBioremediat... for water environmental restorationEnhanceme... of ecological functions for water quality improvementOther emerging biological/ecologica... technologies and process hybridizationProcess Automation, Modelling, and OptimizationAdvanced process automation and control systemsIntegration of robotics and automated systems with water systemsModelling and optimisation of water processes and water systemsApplication of machine learning and advanced algorithms for process control & optimisationGreenhou... gas emissions modelling and control in water processesNovel methods for industrial benchmarking and reporting in water systemsEnergetics and life cycle assessments for water processesWater-energ... nexus: optimisation of coupled water and energy systemsNet zero: new technologies, management strategies and policiesSensing, Monitoring and Emerging TechnologiesSensing technologies for detecting chemical and biological contaminants in water systemsNovel sensing and analytical technologies for emerging contaminants (e.g., microplastics, pharmaceuticals, PFAS)Novel technologies and approaches for water process monitoringEdge computing and IoT-enabled water monitoring systemsDevelopment and application of digital twins for water systemsData-driven predictive maintenance and fault detection in water processingAI-powered tools for real-time water quality prediction and decision-makingWater system digitization, big data analytics, and informaticsDisruptiv... technologies for water systems monitoring and managementProcesses for Resource Recovery and ValorisationThis category covers novel processes and technologies aimed at enhancing resource recovery and valorisation from domestic and industrial wastewater:Energy recovery and production from wastewaterResource recovery/extraction from wastewaterOptimized sludge management for improved energy/resource recoveryValorisation of products recovered from industrial wastewaterAtmospheri... water generation and harvestingTechnologi... schemes (including case studies) for decarbonization in wastewater treatmentOther emerging technologies for resource recovery and valorisation from wastewaterAuthors are encouraged to select the most appropriate category from the six areas listed above for their submissions to JWPE, based on the primary focus of their study. In cases where the research involves hybrid technologies, authors should identify the category that best aligns with the ultimate objective of the study.Submissions related to the development and application of novel materials for water and wastewater treatment, particularly those focused on enhancing the removal of refractory pollutants and improving energy or resource recovery for large-scale or community-scale applications, are highly encouraged. Additionally, studies on emerging technologies in water process engineering that do not fall directly under the existing categories are welcome. However, authors should be mindful of specific exclusions, such as studies on desalination through thermal or membrane processes, which are not within the scope of JWPE.The journal also seeks submissions that address process engineering aspects of water sustainability, with a particular emphasis on water reclamation, reuse, and recycling, as well as energy and resource recovery from alternative sources. Studies focusing on fit-for-purpose treatment processes and technologies that aim to reduce energy and chemical consumption, minimize environmental and carbon footprints, and maximize social benefits are especially encouraged. JWPE periodically publishes “Virtual Special Issues” that explore emerging research areas. Authors should watch for "Calls for Papers" related to these hot topics. Potential contributors may contact the VSI Editor for information on the relevance of their proposed topic and check the VSI page for information. Please note that JWPE does not accept submissions based on fundamental batch studies that lack a focus on engineering applications. Common examples of unacceptable submissions include batch/static adsorption studies of model contaminants without dynamic flow studies, batch photodegradation studies involving photocatalysts modified for visible light operation without engineering application, microbiological studies without a strong connection to biological processing, and membrane fabrication research without practical application. Submissions must also include robust statistical data analysis and benchmarking of data against controls and relevant literature, as well as a thorough and ethical data analysis framework.

  • Biochemical Systematics and Ecology

    • ISSN: 0305-1978
Biochemical Systematics and Ecology is devoted to the publication of original papers and reviews, both submitted and invited, in two subject areas: I) the application of biochemistry to problems relating to systematic biology of organisms (biochemical systematics); II) the role of biochemistry in interactions between organisms or between an organism and its environment (biochemical ecology). In the Biochemical Systematics subject area, comparative studies of the distribution of (secondary) metabolites within a wider taxon (e.g., genus or family) are welcome. Comparative studies, encompassing multiple accessions of each of the taxa within their distribution are particularly encouraged. Welcome are also studies combining classical chemophenetic studies (such as comparative HPLC-MS or GC-MS investigations) with (macro-) molecular phylogenetic studies. Studies that involve the comparative use of compounds to help differentiate among species such as adulterants or substitutes that illustrate the applied use of chemophenetics are welcome. In contrast, studies solely employing macromolecular phylogenetic techniques (gene sequences, RAPD studies etc.) will be considered out of scope. Discouraged are manuscripts that report known or new compounds from a single source taxon without addressing a systematic hypothesis. Also considered out of scope are studies using outdated and hard to reproduce macromolecular techniques such as RAPDs in combination with standard chemophenetic techniques such as GC-FID and GC-MS.In the Biochemical Ecology subject area, studies addressing the role compounds play in the ecology of the organisms producing them are invited. Moreover, manuscripts that address hypothesis associated with the influence of factors such as altitude, geography, and seasonal variation on the expression of primary and secondary metabolites are encouraged. Research papers should generally represent a complete investigation and not preliminary data. Preliminary reports will only be considered where findings are of sufficient interest to justify rapid publication. New Source Reports will only be considered in cases where a significant chemophenetic or ecological finding is reported. New Source Reports have to be written in a standard format (Example).

Papers whos primary concern falls outside the pattern recognition domain and which report routine applications of it using existing or well known methods, should be directed elsewhere. The publication policy is to publish (1) new original articles that have been appropriately reviewed by competent scientific people, (2) reviews of developments in the field, and (3) pedagogical papers covering specific areas of interest in pattern recognition. Various special issues will be organized from time to time on current topics of interest to Pattern Recognition. Submitted papers should be single column, double spaced, no less than 20 and no more than 35 (40 for a review) pages long, with numbered pages.
  • Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems

    • ISSN: 1751-570X
A journal of IFAC, the International Federation of Automatic ControlNonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems (NAHS) welcomes all original research papers on mathematical concepts, tools, and techniques from control theory, computer science, and applied mathematics for the modelling, analysis and design of hybrid dynamical systems, i.e., systems involving the interplay between discrete and continuous dynamic behaviors.Hybrid systems are ubiquitous in many branches of engineering and science as they can model broad ranges of dynamical systems. In particular, in cyber-physical systems, which integrate sensing, computation, control and communication (cyber) parts into physical objects and infrastructures, hybrid systems play an instrumental role. The description of the behavior of the cyber parts often calls for discrete models (automata, finite-state machines, switching logic, etc.), while the physical (thermal, mechanical, electrical, physical, biological) parts are well captured by continuous modelling formalisms (e.g., differential equations), thereby naturally resulting in hybrid system models such as (stochastic) hybrid automata, timed automata, switched systems, impulsive systems, jump-flow models, piecewise affine systems, non-smooth systems, etc. Also, many physical phenomena can often be well described by non-smooth or hybrid models, including mechanical systems with impacts and friction (walking robots), switched power converters and biological systems (e.g., firing neuron models).Hybrid systems can exhibit very rich dynamics and their analysis calls for new and strong theorical foundations to guarantee their stability, safety, functionality, and performance. The development of systematic methods for efficient and reliable design of hybrid systems is therefore a key challenge on the crossroads of control theory and computer science. It is currently of high interest to control engineers, computer scientists and mathematicians in research institutions as well as in many industrial sectors.Contribution... to Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems are invited in all areas pertaining to hybrid dynamical systems including: Modeling, modeling languages and specification;Analys... computability and complexity;Stochasti... hybrid systems;Impulsive systems;Formal verification and abstraction;Optimiza... and controller synthesis;Control over communication networks including self- and event-triggered control;Network Science and multi-agent systems;Fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control;Simulation, implementation and tools;Safety, security, privacy, and resilience for cyber-physical systems;Planning and integrated control in dynamical systems.Contribution... on applications of hybrid dynamical systems methods are also encouraged. • Landscape and Urban Planning

    • ISSN: 0169-2046
An Interdisciplinary Journal of Landscape Science, Planning and Design.Landscape and Urban Planning is an international journal aimed at advancing conceptual, scientific, and applied understandings of landscape in order to promote sustainable solutions for landscape change. Landscapes are visible and integrative social-ecological systems with variable spatial and temporal dimensions. They have expressive aesthetic, natural, and cultural qualities that are perceived and valued by people in multiple ways and invite actions resulting in landscape change. Landscapes are increasingly urban in nature and ecologically and culturally sensitive to changes at local through global scales. Multiple disciplines and perspectives are required to understand landscapes and align social and ecological values to ensure the sustainability of landscapes. The journal is based on the premise that landscape science linked to planning and design can provide mutually supportive outcomes for people and nature.Landscape science brings landscape ecology and urban ecology together with other disciplines and cross-disciplinary fields to identify patterns and understand social-ecological processes influencing landscape change. Landscape planning brings landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, landscape and ecological engineering, and other practice-oriented fields to bear in processes for identifying problems and analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating desirable alternatives for landscape change. Landscape design brings plans, designs, management prescriptions, policies and other activities and form-giving products to bear in effecting landscape change. The implementation of landscape planning and design also generates new patterns of evidence and hypotheses for further research, providing an integral link with landscape science and encouraging transdisciplinary collaborations to build robust knowledge and problem solving capacity.

  • Finite Fields and Their Applications

    • ISSN: 1071-5797
Finite Fields and Their Applications is a peer-reviewed technical journal publishing papers in finite field theory as well as in applications of finite fields. As a result of applications in a wide variety of areas, finite fields are increasingly important in several areas of mathematics, including linear and abstract algebra, number theory and algebraic geometry, as well as in computer science, statistics, information theory, and engineering. For cohesion, and because so many applications rely on various theoretical properties of finite fields, it is essential that there be a core of high-quality papers on theoretical aspects. In addition, since much of the vitality of the area comes from computational problems, the journal publishes papers on computational aspects of finite fields as well as on algorithms and complexity of finite field-related methods. The journal also publishes papers in various applications including, but not limited to, algebraic coding theory, cryptology, combinatorial design theory, pseudorandom number generation, and linear recurring sequences. There are other areas of application to be included, but the important point is that finite fields play a nontrivial role in the theory, application, or algorithm.Finite Fields and Their Applications is published four times per year and maintains very strict refereeing standards, accepting only those papers which receive excellent referee reports. This journal has an Open Archive. All published items, including research articles, have unrestricted access and will remain permanently free to read and download 48 months after publication. All papers in the Archive are subject to Elsevier's user license.
  • Process Safety and Environmental Protection

    • ISSN: 0957-5820
Publication of the Institution of Chemical Engineers Official Journal of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering: Part BPSEP aims to be the principal international journal for publication of high quality, original papers in the branches of engineering concerned with the safety of industrial processes and the protection of the environment.Papers that deal with new developments in safety or environmental aspects, demonstrating how research results can be used in process engineering design and practice, are particularly encouraged. Experimental or theoretical research work bringing new perspectives to established principles, highlighting unsolved problems or indicating directions for future research will also be considered. The journal is especially interested in contributions that extend the boundaries of traditional engineering as well as in multidisciplinary papers.Papers related to environmental protection must take an integrated pollution control approach, demonstrating clearly that any proposed treatment method does not simply transfer pollution from one environmental medium to another, for example, from air to water or from water to solid waste. All such papers must discuss how any treatment effluents, spent adsorbents, etc., can be treated or disposed of safely, avoiding transfer of pollution to another environmental medium. For environmental protection, papers that are outside the scope are those that lack engineering aspects, including those that:use experimental techniques primarily to prepare and/or characterise various materials without considerations of process engineering design and practice;present primarily laboratory experiments of the effects of different parameters on behaviour of materials and pollutants (e.g. pH, temperature, mass of adsorbent, etc.) without further insights into the implications for engineering design and practice;focus primarily on adsorption models and curve fitting (e.g. Freundlich, Langmuir etc.); • Marine Geology

    • ISSN: 0025-3227
Marine Geology is the journal on marine geological processes in the broadest sense. It seeks papers that are comprehensive, interdisciplinary and synthetic that will be lasting contributions to the field. Papers must demonstrate new findings and their context and significance discussed in terms of the international literature.Marine Geology accepts papers on subjects as diverse as seafloor hydrothermal systems, beach dynamics, early diagenesis, microbiological studies in sediments, palaeoclimate studies and geophysical studies of the seabed. Papers that address emerging new fields, for example the influence of anthropogenic processes on coastal and marine geology are particularly welcomed. The papers should be concerned with the coastal and marine realm in the broad sense and should deal with rocks, sediments, landforms (sedimentology, geomorphology, geoarchaeology, geochemistry), the physical and chemical and biological processes affecting them, and the characteristics and evolution of the processes/mechanisms as revealed by sedimentary archives.Papers should address scientific hypotheses: data compilations, including 'big data' and datasets of global significance, and papers that deal with marine management and risk assessment, sustainability issues, and hydrocarbon reservoir characterisation may be submitted to the journal on the condition that they demonstrate a close and clear relationship between these issues and coastal/marine geological processes and deposits. Papers on laboratory or modelling studies must demonstrate direct relevance to marine processes or deposits. Papers dealing with coastal deposits now on land may be accepted on condition that these deposits show continuity with, and their interpretation is relevant to, coastal and marine processes. Papers dealing with continental deposits that do not correspond to these criteria and must be submitted to other journals. The primary criteria for acceptance of papers include that the science is of high quality, novel, significant, and of broad international interest.

  • Theoretical Computer Science

    • ISSN: 0304-3975
Theoretical Computer Science is mathematical and abstract in spirit, but it derives its motivation from practical and everyday computation. Its aim is to understand the nature of computation and, as a consequence of this understanding, provide more efficient methodologies. All papers introducing or studying mathematical, logic and formal concepts and methods are welcome, provided that their motivation is clearly drawn from the field of computing.Any queries about submissions and peer review should be addressed to the TCS editorial office: tcseditorialoffice@e... published in Theoretical Computer Science are grouped in three sections according to their nature. The first section `Algorithms, automata, complexity and games' is devoted to the study of algorithms and their complexity using analytical, combinatorial or probabilistic methods. It includes the whole field of abstract complexity (i.e. all the results about the hierarchies that can be defined using Turing machines), the whole field of automata and language theory (including automata on infinite words and infinitary languages), the whole field of geometrical (graphic) applications and the whole field of measurement of system performance using statistical methods. The second section,`Logic, semantics and theory of programming', is devoted to formal methods to check properties of programs or implement formally described languages; it contains all papers dealing with semantics of sequential and parallel programming languages. All formal methods treating these problems are published in this section, including rewriting techniques, abstract data types, automatic theorem proving, calculi such as SCP or CCS, Petri nets, new logic calculi and developments in categorical methods. The third section, 'Natural Computing', is devoted to the study of computing occurring in nature and computing inspired by nature. In the rapidly evolving field of computer science, natural computing plays an important role as the catalyst for the synergy of human designed computing with the computing going on in nature. This synergy leads to a deeper and broader understanding of the nature of computation. Although natural computing is concerned also with experiments and applications, this section of Theoretical Computer Science is focused on the theoretical aspects of natural computing with clear relevance to computing. Among others, it will contain papers dealing with the theoretical issues in evolutionary computing, neural networks, molecular computing, and quantum computing.Theoretica... Computer Science will now publish high-quality advanced introductions. Advanced introductions, which are by invitation only, should cover a focused topic within the scope of TCS at a level that would be appropriate for a scientist who is new to the topic and wishes to gain an up-to-date understanding. Articles should be self-contained, including motivation and basic definitions, and proceed to advanced material and/or open problems which may - but need not - include new results. Sufficient references should be given to provide the reader with entry points to the research literature on the topic as well as the origins of the main ideas. Submissions will go through the standard review process of TCS.
  • Zoology

    • ISSN: 0944-2006
Zoology is a journal devoted to experimental and comparative animal science. It presents a common forum for all scientists who take an explicitly organism oriented and integrative approach to the study of animal form, function, development and evolution. The journal invites papers that take a comparative or experimental approach to behavior and neurobiology, functional morphology, evolution and development, ecological physiology, and cell biology. Due to the increasing realization that animals exist only within a partnership with symbionts, Zoology encourages submissions of papers focused on the analysis of holobionts or metaorganisms as associations of the macroscopic host in synergistic interdependence with numerous microbial and eukaryotic species.
