We also currently discourage submissions based solely on bibliometric analysis, aggregate econometrics, or qualitative social science. Submission of critical review and discussion articles is allowed, but such submissions must succinctly provide critical insights and novel thoughts that advance the field of environmental management in a specific topic area. Affiliated to the International Union of RadioecologyThe Journal of Environmental Radioactivity provides a coherent international forum for publication of original research or review papers on any aspect of the occurrence of radioactivity in natural systems.Relevant subject areas range from applications of environmental radionuclides as mechanistic or timescale tracers of natural processes to assessments of the radioecological or radiological effects of ambient radioactivity. Papers deal with naturally occurring nuclides or with those created and released by man through nuclear weapons manufacture and testing, energy production, fuel-cycle technology, etc. Reports on radioactivity in the oceans, sediments, rivers, lakes, groundwaters, soils, atmosphere and all divisions of the biosphere are welcomed, but these should not simply be of a monitoring nature unless the data are particularly innovative.Research papers are also included which, by either experimental or theoretical approaches, aim towards an improved understanding of the behaviour, transfer and distribution of environmental radionuclides. Predictive modelling is particularly encouraged. Papers on dating methods are acceptable if they have clear geophysical or geochemical significance. Descriptions of experimental methods should be both highly original and specifically related to determination of low-level environmental activities.The journal provides a vehicle for objective, open and peer-reviewed publication and discussion of the more “controversial” aspects of environmental radioactivity, including assessments of health effects, criteria for discharge control and options for ultimate disposal of nuclear wastes. Publication in this field is also encouraged in the related book series Radioactivity in the Environment designed to complement the coverage of the journal.

Devoted to Research on Large Lakes of the World and their Watersheds The official Journal of the International Association for Great Lakes ResearchPublished six times per year, the Journal of Great Lakes Research is multidisciplinary in its coverage, publishing manuscripts on a wide range of theoretical and applied topics in the natural science fields of biology, chemistry, physics, geology, as well as social sciences of the large lakes of the world and their watersheds. Large lakes generally are considered as those lakes which have a mean surface area of >500 km2 (see Herdendorf, C.E. 1982. Large lakes of the world. J. The Journal of Hazardous Materials is an international forum that advances world class research by publishing articles in the areas of Environmental Science and Engineering. We publish full-length research papers, review articles, and perspectives that improve our understanding of the hazards and risks that certain materials pose to public health and the environment. Authors are supposed to address two questions in their manuscripts: 1) is the studied subject an environmental contaminant? and 2) is the study conducted under an environmentally relevant condition?"Environme... contaminants" exclude the compounds that do not exert hazardous effects on the environment or humans via contamination. Of note, difference between wastes and hazardous materials needs to be spotlighted to further clarify the JHM scope. The journal is highly interested in specific compounds or microbial agents with environmentally hazardous effects."Environment... relevant conditions" typically require an experiment or modeling study to be conducted with the consideration of environmental factors, such as temperature, pH, environmental matrix constituents, and chemical doses for waste removal, within their respective realistic occurrence ranges. Particularly, we have noticed that studies on nanomaterials or emerging contaminants (e.g., sensing/detection, effects, and removal) in many manuscripts were performed with unrealistically high concentrations, which can be several orders of magnitude higher than their real occurrence ranges in an environmental medium.Environmental implications from such studies would be very limited.
