Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling
The Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling is devoted to the publication of papers on the uses of computers in theoretical investigations of molecular structure, function, interaction, and design. The scope of the journal includes all aspects of molecular modeling and computational chemistry, including, for instance, the study of molecular shape and properties, molecular simulations, protein and polymer engineering, drug design, materials design, structure-activity and structure-property relationships, database mining, and compound library design.As a primary research journal, JMGM seeks to bring new knowledge to the attention of our readers. As such, submissions to the journal need to not only report results, but must draw conclusions and explore implications of the work presented. Authors are strongly encouraged to bear this in mind when preparing manuscripts. Routine applications of standard modelling approaches, providing only very limited new scientific insight, will not meet our criteria for publication. Reproducibility of reported calculations is an important issue. Wherever possible, we urge authors to enhance their papers with Supplementary Data, for example, in QSAR studies machine-readable versions of molecular datasets or in the development of new force-field parameters versions of the topology and force field parameter files. Routine applications of existing methods that do not lead to genuinely new insight will not be considered.JMGM is published in association with two of the largest and most active professional societies in the field: the Molecular Graphics and Modelling Society (MGMS) and the Computers in Chemistry (COMP) Division of the American Chemical Society. Several thousand computational chemists worldwide belong to these two societies and any research topic that may of interest to the membership is within the wide scope of the journal. A Journal of Mobile Genes and GenomesPlasmid publishes original research on genetic elements in all kingdoms of life with emphasis on maintenance, transmission and evolution of extrachromosomal elements. Objects of interest include plasmids, bacteriophages, mobile genetic elements, organelle DNA, and genomic and pathogenicity islands.Plasmid welcomes topics such as horizontal gene transfer, including antibiotic resistance transfer, and molecular aspects of microbial ecology. It also welcomes applications of plasmid biology to biotechnology and medicine, and of bioinformatics for studies of genomes. Special Issues provide an opportunity to integrate knowledge about the designated theme area from different subdisciplines and methodologies, examine previously unaddressed aspects, propose and develop new approaches, exchange perspectives, and encourage novel lines of research and debate.Expertise & the Editorial Process - The two Editors in Chief and the Editorial Board bring the depth and breadth of their experience and expertise to our journal. The Co-Editors in Chief do an initial review of unsolicited topic proposals sent to the journal and determine which should be put forward to the Editorial Board for consideration. They also work with the Editorial Board to identify important areas of research for which proposals should be invited, and to identify and vet the appropriate guest editors for each topic. The invited Guest Editors then create an author invite list, which the Co-Editors in Chief and Editorial Board review and augment to ensure appropriate coverage in topics, perspectives, and geographic and gender diversity.The editorial staff determines the suitability for review of manuscripts submitted by the invited authors for special issues. An International Journal devoted to the Physics and Chemistry of Biological PhenomenaBiophysical Chemistry publishes original work and reviews in the areas of chemistry and physics directly impacting biological phenomena. Quantitative analysis of the properties of biological macromolecules, biologically active molecules, macromolecular assemblies and cell components in terms of kinetics, thermodynamics, spatio-temporal organization, NMR and X-ray structural biology, as well as single-molecule detection represent a major focus of the journal. Theoretical and computational treatments of biomacromolecular systems, macromolecular interactions, regulatory control and systems biology are also of interest to the journal.The journal publishes Regular Articles, Reviews, Short Communications (maximum of 4 printed pages), Discussion and Feature Articles. Feature Articles are normally by Editor's invitation only, but interested authors can contact the Editors before submission. Author(s) will be asked to focus on her/his recent research contributions, thereby adding a personal perspective to their field of research. These short reviews will include the authors' photo and a brief bio/CV and will have a page limit of 5 printed pages in print.Manuscripts that fall outside the scopes and interests of the journal are returned to the Authors without in-depth review. Relevant manuscripts are reviewed expeditiously with decisions generally made within 3 weeks from receipt. Genetics in Medicine (GIM) is an official journal of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. The journal's mission is to enhance the knowledge, understanding, and practice of medical genetics and genomics through publications in clinical and laboratory genetics and genomics, including ethical, legal, and social issues as well as public health. As genetics and genomics continue to increase in importance and relevance in medical practice, the journal is an accessible and authoritative resource for the dissemination of medical genetic knowledge to all medical providers through appropriate original research, reviews, commentaries, standards, and guidelines. GIM encourages research that combats racism, includes diverse populations and is written by authors from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.In addition:GIM does not publish case reportsManuscripts reporting population level research carried out in predominantly or exclusively White populations will generally not be accepted without strong justification for lack of diversity in the population studied.The significance of articles reporting data and/or observations from a limited geographic region is evaluated in the context of whether they are generalizable across relevant populations or whether they might fill a knowledge gap in populations that are underrepresented in genetics research or that experience health disparities.Although cancer genetics is a focus, GIM discourages cancer genetics manuscripts with data limited to somatic and/or tumor genetics. Manuscripts with novel findings on non-germline genetics (for example, somatic [tumor] variation, CHIP [clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential], somatic and constitutional mosaicism) that inform our understanding of germline risk may also be considered. Official journal of the Aquacultural Engineering Society (AES)Aquacultural Engineering is concerned with the design and development of effective aquacultural systems for marine and freshwater facilities. The journal aims to apply the knowledge gained from basic research which potentially can be translated into commercial operations.Problems of scale-up and application of research data involve many parameters, both physical and biological, making it difficult to anticipate the interaction between the unit processes and the cultured animals. Aquacultural Engineering aims to develop this bioengineering interface for aquaculture and welcomes contributions in the following areas:– Engineering and design of aquaculture facilities – Engineering-based research studies – Construction experience and techniques – In-service experience, commissioning, operation – Materials selection and their uses – Quantification of biological data and constraintsMore basic studies in supporting disciplines (e.g. imaging, computer sciences, mechanical engineering) with little reference to aquacultural engineering will not be considered for publication.Style of presentation is flexible, but those papers dealing with specific problems should attempt to define them clearly in terms of systems engineering, quantifying the constraints, proposing solutions, implementing and detailing the design, and finally evaluating the outcome.
