  • Drug and Alcohol Dependence

    • ISSN: 0376-8716
The Official Journal of The College on Problems of Drug DependenceDrug and Alcohol Dependence is an international journal devoted to publishing original research including clinical trials, basic and human experimental designs, large epidemiological studies, and scholarly review articles in the area of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and dependence. Articles range from studies of the chemistry of substances of use, their actions at molecular and cellular sites, in vitro and in vivo investigations of their biochemical, pharmacological and behavioral actions, laboratory-based and clinical research in humans, substance use treatment and prevention research, and studies employing methods from epidemiology, sociology, and economics. The rationale for this extensive coverage is the conviction that drug, alcohol and tobacco use/dependence cannot be understood in their entirety from a single perspective and that without an understanding of other areas of research, studies by individual investigators may be limited. The goal of the journal is to provide researchers, clinicians, and policy makers access to material from all perspectives in a single journal in a format that is understandable and which has received rigorous peer and editorial review. The hope of its editors is to promote mutual understanding of the many facets of drug use to the benefit of all investigators involved in drug and alcohol research, and to facilitate the transfer of scientific findings to successful treatment and prevention practices.Drug and Alcohol Dependence is currently available to all the members of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), the oldest scientific organization in the United States concerned with research on problems of drug dependence. Members of the CPDD are provided with online access to the full text of the current issue and back issues dating back to Vol. 46, Issue no. 1 as a benefit of membership. The College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), formerly the Committee on Problems of Drug Dependence, has been in existence since 1929 and is the longest standing group in the United States addressing problems of drug use. From 1929 until 1976, the CPDD was associated with the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council. Since 1976, the organization has functioned as an independent body affiliated with other scientific and professional societies representing various disciplines concerned with problems of drug use. In 1991, the CPDD evolved into a membership organization with the new name of College on Problems of Drug Dependence.CPDD serves as an interface among governmental, industrial and academic communities maintaining liaisons with regulatory and research agencies as well as educational, treatment, and prevention facilities in the drug abuse field. It also functions as a collaborating center of the World Health Organization.
  • Brain Stimulation

    • ISSN: 1935-861X
Basic, Translational, and Clinical Research in NeuromodulationAbout Brain StimulationBrain Stimulation is the premier journal for publishing research in the field of neuromodulation. The journal includes: a) original articles; b) invited and original reviews or commentaries; and c) letters to the Editor. Special issues of the journal will be considered based on scientific merit.Brain Stimulation publishes original work across the entire field of brain stimulation, including noninvasive and invasive techniques and technologies that alter brain function using electrical, magnetic, radiowave, sound, light, focally targeted pharmacologic stimulation, or any other physical method to directly alter neural function. This includes investigations that study the effects of brain stimulation on basic processes, such as gene expression and other aspects of molecular biology, neurochemical regulation, functional brain activity, sensorimotor function, and cognitive and affective processes at the systems level. Interacting with the brain through normal sensory routes (e.g. vision, sound, touch, smell) is not defined as brain stimulation for this journal. As an equal partner with this basic emphasis, the journal has strong representation of research on the therapeutic potential and adverse effects of the stimulation technologies. Research in therapeutics includes not only clinical trials, but also conceptual pieces, discussions of ethics as they pertain to this field, services research, and epidemiology. The journal also publishes the highest level of research on the biophysics and biopsychophysics of stimulation paradigms, as well as the use of these techniques as a probe to outline patterns of neural connectivity. The journal will consider any form of neuromodulation that impacts on brain processes. Spinal cord stimulation or peripheral nerve stimulation will be considered only if behavioral effects are mediated by a central brain mechanism. The journal scope does not include psychological manipulations, such as visual or auditory presentation, nor are routine pharmacology studies appropriate for this journal. Studies of imaging correlates of brain states that do not involve brain stimulation are also not within the purview of the journal.

  • Neuropharmacology

    • ISSN: 0028-3908
Neuropharmacology publishes high quality, original research within the discipline of neuroscience. The emphasis of Neuropharmacology is on the study and understanding of the actions of known exogenous and endogenous chemical agents on neurobiological processes in the mammalian nervous system. Work with non-mammalian and invertebrate species may be considered in exceptional circumstances. The journal does not usually accept clinical research, although neuropharmacological studies in humans may be considered on the condition that they provide novel insight into either the actions of drugs and/or neurobiological mechanisms. The journal only considers submissions in which the chemical structures and compositions of experimental agents are readily available in the literature or disclosed by the authors in the submitted manuscript. Similarly, manuscripts describing the use of natural products will only be considered if the active ingredient is known and disclosed. The journal publishes Special Issues in which leading experts are invited to serve as Guest Editors to compile a collection of reviews, and occasionally original articles, around a particular topical theme in neuroscience research. The list of recent Special Issues can be found here. Suggestions for Special Issues can be made directly to the Editor-in-Chief.Neur... also publishes topical narrative reviews on subjects within its remit. These reviews are commissioned by the Editorial Team or arise after correspondence with potential authors. Unsolicited reviews will be considered, but authors are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief of their intention to submit a review. Potential review authors should clearly indicate in the cover letter their expertise in the area, the timeliness of the topic, and how the review differs from, and adds to, recent published reviews on related topics. Authors are expected to have an established experimental track record in the topic of the review, and should provide full citations, including URLs/DOIs, of recent experimental papers in peer-reviewed journals relevant to the topic of the review in their cover letter. In the absence of an experimental track record, authors should provide a justification for why they believe they are the right persons to author this review article at this point in time. The absence of any such evidence of relevant experimental expertise or an explanation of author appropriateness will result in the return of the manuscript to the authors. On the basis of the case made by authors, potential overlap with planned Neuropharmacology content, and discussions with the Editorial Team, the Editor-in-Chief will provide authors with a prompt decision regarding the proposed review. Systematic reviews, meta- or bibliographic analyses will not be considered unless they are a necessary part of a Special Issue and conducted by experts in the field, and even then only under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.
