Welcome, and thank you for considering Cell Metabolism for your work. Founded in 2005 and marking 20 years as a home for the metabolic community in 2025, Cell Metabolism is the leading journal dedicated to publishing novel, high-impact research spanning basic to clinical metabolism. We are interested in original work addressing the molecular mechanisms underlying physiological homeostasis and what goes awry in disease.
Our mission is to serve as a trusted platform where the metabolic community—from preclinical researchers addressing fundamental questions in cellular metabolism to clinicians translating new interventions to patients—can exchange ideas, foster dialogue, and push the field in new directions. We aim to publish work of exceptional significance within its field that also resonates with researchers outside the immediate area, encouraging cross-pollination of ideas among authors and readers at any career stage, anywhere in the world.
Cell Metabolism's scope spans the breadth of metabolic biology and disease, including diabetes and obesity and the related therapeutic interventions; liver pathophysiology; adipose tissue and lipid metabolism; cardiovascular biology; pancreatic beta cell function; immunometabolism and cancer metabolism; mitochondrial metabolism; aging, stress responses, and bone homeostasis; neuronal control of metabolism and metabolic contributions to neurodegeneration; the gut microbiome; circadian biology; and exercise and nutrition.
We publish original research in different formats such as Research Article and Short Article for preclinical research, Clinical and Translational Report for exploratory human studies and clinical trials, and Resource and Technology papers for studies providing dataset resources with functional validation and technological advances, respectively.
For front matter, we publish Reviews that synthesize timely and rapidly evolving areas, Perspectives and Commentaries that foster dialogue and debate on outstanding questions in the field, Forum articles that set new standards and address thought-provoking speculation to drive research forward, and Letters responding to recently published work.
