Flow Measurement By Square-edged Orifice Plate Using Corner Tappings deals comprehensively with the subject of flow measurement through pipes by a square edge orifice plate using corner tappings. The object is to present in easily readable and applicable form a consideration of all the many factors involved in accurate measurement, thus enabling readers to appreciate what is involved in good flow metering practice, to design if desired their own installations to predetermined standards of accuracy, and to make reliable assessments of existing installations. The book is organized into four parts. Part 1 discusses basic principles, approved design and installation conditions, and recommended follow-up maintenance for various predetermined standards of accuracy, with special attention given to requirements concerned with the metered fluid, working conditions, orifice design, pipe layout and pipe conditions. Part 2 deals with the practical application of Part I and describes the method of using a Flowmeter Data Sheet specially designed both to ensure that the numerous factors involved in accurate flow measurements are taken into account. Part III consists of a number of representative and well-detailed specimen calculations designed to illustrate and clarify all aspects of the method of calculation advocated in Part II. In Part IV a considerable amount of relevant data on the physical properties of fluids, and many tables, graphs and alignment charts are assembled together for easy reference when making orifice calculations.

Archaeological Geophysics for Ephemeral Human Occupations: Focusing on the Small-Scale combines technological advances in near-surface geophysics with recent archaeological scholarship and underlying archaeological premises to provide a practical manual for guiding archaeo-geophysical research design. By proposing the amelioration of communication gaps between traditional and geophysical archaeologists, this book will foment dialogue and participate in bringing about new ways of thinking anthropologically about archaeological geophysics, especially in relation to prehistoric open-air ephemeral sites. Offering a way to begin a dialogue between archaeology and geophysics, Archaeological Geophysics for Ephemeral Human Occupations is an important reference for practicing professionals, instructors, and students in geophysics and anthropology/archaeo... as well as geology.

Evolution, Explanation, Ethics and Aesthetics: Towards a Philosophy of Biology focuses on the dominant biological topic of evolution. It deals with the prevailing philosophical themes of how to explain the adaptation of organisms, the interplay of chance and necessity, and the recurrent topics of emergence, reductionism, and progress. In addition, the extensively treated topic of how to explain human nature as a result of natural processes and the encompassed issues of the foundations of morality and the brain-to-mind transformation is discussed. The philosophy of biology is a rapidly expanding field, not more than half a century old at most, and to a large extent is replacing the interest in the philosophy of physics that prevailed in the first two-thirds of the twentieth century. Few texts available have the benefit of being written by an eminent biologist who happens to be also a philosopher, as in this work. This book is a useful resource for seminar courses and college courses on the philosophy of biology. Researchers, academics, and students in evolutionary biology, behavior, genetics, and biodiversity will also be interested in this work, as will those in human biology and issues such as ethics, religion, and the human mind, along with professional philosophers of science and those concerned with such issues as whether evolution is compatible with religion and/or where morality comes from.

Audio Content Security: Attack Analysis on Audio Watermarking describes research using a common audio watermarking method for four different genres of music, also providing the results of many test attacks to determine the robustness of the watermarking in the face of those attacks. The results of this study can be used for further studies and to establish the need to have a particular way of audio watermarking for each particular group of songs, each with different characteristics. An additional aspect of this study tests and analyzes two parameters of audio host file and watermark on a specific evaluation method (PSNR) for audio watermarking.

Analytical Solution Methods for Boundary Value Problems is an extensively revised, new English language edition of the original 2011 Russian language work, which provides deep analysis methods and exact solutions for mathematical physicists seeking to model germane linear and nonlinear boundary problems. Current analytical solutions of equations within mathematical physics fail completely to meet boundary conditions of the second and third kind, and are wholly obtained by the defunct theory of series. These solutions are also obtained for linear partial differential equations of the second order. They do not apply to solutions of partial differential equations of the first order and they are incapable of solving nonlinear boundary value problems. Analytical Solution Methods for Boundary Value Problems attempts to resolve this issue, using quasi-linearization methods, operational calculus and spatial variable splitting to identify the exact and approximate analytical solutions of three-dimensional non-linear partial differential equations of the first and second order. The work does so uniquely using all analytical formulas for solving equations of mathematical physics without using the theory of series. Within this work, pertinent solutions of linear and nonlinear boundary problems are stated. On the basis of quasi-linearization, operational calculation and splitting on spatial variables, the exact and approached analytical solutions of the equations are obtained in private derivatives of the first and second order. Conditions of unequivocal resolvability of a nonlinear boundary problem are found and the estimation of speed of convergence of iterative process is given. On an example of trial functions results of comparison of the analytical solution are given which have been obtained on suggested mathematical technology, with the exact solution of boundary problems and with the numerical solutions on well-known methods.

Application of Thermo-Fluidic Measurement Techniques: An Introduction provides essential measurement techniques in heat transfer and aerodynamics. In addition to a brief, but physically elaborate description of the principles of each technique, multiple examples for each technique are included. These examples elaborate all the necessary details of (a) test setups, (b) calibration, (c) data acquisition procedure, and (d) data interpretation, with comments on the limitations of each technique and how to avoid mistakes that are based on the authors’ experience. The authors have different expertise in convection heat transfer and aerodynamics, and have collaborated on various research projects that employ a variety of experimental techniques. Each author has a different view and approach to individual experimental techniques, but these views complement each other, giving new users of each technique a rounded view. With the introduction of this valuable reference book, the reader can quickly learn both the overall and detailed aspects of each experimental technique and then apply them to their own work.
