Fuzzy Methods for Assessment and Decision Making presents the assessment of learning and problem-solving skills with qualitative grades. These methods are outcomes of the author’s research work on the subject for more than 20 years. In particular, a hybrid assessment model uses the Center of Gravity (COG) defuzzification technique, closed real intervals (grey numbers), neutrosophic sets, and soft sets as tools. The book starts with the basic mathematical background that is needed for an understanding of its contents. The Rectangular Fuzzy Assessment Model (RFAM) of Subbotin and Voskoglou is presented next, the outcomes of which are compared to those of the GPA index. The book presents innovative fuzzy assessment methods, enabling readers to assess the mean and quality performance of learning or problem-solving skills of a group of students when qualitative (linguistic) grades are used for this purpose. In the case of using linguistic grades for the assessment of a group’s skills, the classical method of calculating the mean value of the (numerical) grades cannot be applied. Also, no safe conclusions can be obtained on comparing the quality performance of two groups when the values of their GPA index are equal.

The book begins with an overview and history of climate change, followed by several chapters covering the concepts of computational modeling and simulation, including parameters of climate change, modeling the effects of human activities, visualization tools, and data fusion for advanced modeling applications. It then proceeds to cover decision support systems, modeling of technological solutions for climate change, modeling of greenhouse gas emissions, tracking of climate factors, and modeling of earth resources. In the final chapters of the book, the authors cover nation-based outcomes, big data, and optimization solutions with real-world data and case studies. Climate change is one of the most pressing existential issues for humans and the planet, and this book covers leading-edge applications of computational modeling to the vast array of interdisciplinary factors and challenges posed by climate change. As life itself is a mixture of occurrences that can be mathematically modelled, it is important to work with specific parameters, which are critical for monitoring and controlling the dynamics of the earth, natural resources, technological factors, and human activities.

Data science has the potential to influence and improve fundamental services such as the healthcare sector. This book recognizes this fact by analyzing the potential uses of data science in healthcare. Every human body produces 2 TB of data each day. This information covers brain activity, stress level, heart rate, blood sugar level, and many other things. More sophisticated technology, such as data science, allows clinicians and researchers to handle such a massive volume of data to track the health of patients. The book focuses on the potential and the tools of data science to identify the signs of illness at an extremely early stage.

The Evolution of Immunotherapy Against Tumors: An Historical Approach summarizes the literature concerning the development of the theory of immune surveillance against tumors. It discusses the evidence for and against this theory, along with the concept of immunoediting. Finally, current approaches in anti-tumor immunotherapy will be analyzed. The immune system plays a major role in the surveillance against tumors. To avoid attack from the immune system, tumor cells develop different strategies to escape immune surveillance. Evidence of immune surveillance comes from both animal models and clinical observations. Mice with a wide variety of immunodeficiencies have a high rate of tumor incidence and are more susceptible to transplanted or chemical carcinogen-induced tumors. Immunosuppressed patients have a high incidence of tumors. However, many patients develop cancer even in the presence of an apparently normal immune system. This indicates that tumor cells can escape immune surveillance.
