Poetics
Journal of Empirical Research on Culture, the Media and the ArtsPoetics is an interdisciplinary journal of theoretical and empirical research on culture, the media and the arts. Particularly welcome are papers that make an original contribution to the major disciplines - sociology, psychology, media and communication studies, and economics - within which promising lines of research on culture, media and the arts have been developed.Poetics would be pleased to consider, for example, the following types of papers:• Sociological research on participation in the arts; media use and consumption; the conditions under which makers of cultural products operate; the functioning of institutions that make, distribute and/or judge cultural products, arts and media policy; etc.• Psychological research on the cognitive processing of cultural products such as literary texts, films, theatrical performances, visual artworks; etc.• Media and communications research on the globalization of media production and consumption; the role and performance of journalism; the development of media and creative industries; the social uses of media; etc.• Economic research on the funding, costs and benefits of commercial and non-profit organizations in the fields of art and culture; choice behavior of audiences analysed from the viewpoint of the theory of lifestyles; the impact of economic institutions on the production or consumption of cultural goods; etc.The production and consumption of media, art and culture are highly complex and interrelated phenomena. Our insight into these broad domains will be considerably enhanced by studies focusing on the interrelationships of the many factors that shape behavior towards art, culture and the media.Poetics publishes not only advanced research reports but also overview articles. Occasional special issues, guest-edited by specialists, present the state of the art and/or discuss new developments in a particular field.Poetics does not publish papers that analyze arts or literature in a more hermeneutics-oriente... tradition. Journal of Historical Geography
As the benchmark sub-disciplinary quarterly, the Journal of Historical Geography publishes articles on all aspects of historical geography and cognate fields in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. As well as hosting original research papers and special issues of interest to a wide international and interdisciplinary readership, the journal encourages agenda-setting interventions into methodological and conceptual debates and new challenges facing researchers in the field. Each issue includes a substantial review section (of books, exhibitions, databases, and others), and there is a regular feature on 'Historical Geography at Large' devoted to engaged research, and its impact, beyond the academy. The journal is especially keen to expand its scholarship into those regions and academic communities beyond anglophone Europe and North America which have traditionally been underrepresented in the journal. We offer extra editorial support to students, early career researchers, underrepresented researchers, and those for whom English is not their first language.Questions commonly addressed in the journal include:How to describe, represent, and reconstruct past geographies (spaces, places, landscapes, environments, mobilities and networks)?How is the presentness of the past produced through landscapes, texts, memories and archives? Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports is aimed at all scholars, from anthropological archaeologists to scientific specialists, who are engaged with the application of scientific techniques and methods throughout the entire field of archaeology. The journal focuses on the results of scientific investigations applied to archaeological research questions, problems, and debates of wide interest and, in turn, their significance for understanding behaviors in the past. It also provides a forum, after consultation with the editors, for reviews or debates about important issues or “hot topics” in scientific archaeology and their impacts in the broader field.Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports publishes papers of excellent archaeological science, and both scientific and archaeological aspects of the research should be well represented within all manuscripts submitted to the journal. The majority of our accepted submissions are Research Articles in which a scientific technique sheds light on a clearly defined archaeological research question or debate. Shorter Communications, Reviews, and other article formats are also welcome, but interested authors are encouraged to consult with the editors prior to submitting manuscripts in these formats.Research should be demonstrably contextualized within the region and period of interest (that is, it is situated in the relevant geographic, chronological, historical, etc. contexts) and, ideally, within a topic or question of broad interest or significance to a global audience. Applications of scientific techniques must be underpinned by clear archaeological or methodological research questions and be set within established and/or developing research frameworks. The submission of papers focused around the analysis of single objects or small sample sizes (e.g., a low number of sherds) and papers situated in conservation studies are discouraged, unless of exceptional quality and/or international significance.Submiss... within our publishing scope will be considered by an Editor-in-Chief and, after passing desk review, will be reviewed by at least two peer reviewers. Submissions might also be handled by Associate Editors with relevant subject expertise. Archaeological Research in Asia
Archaeological Research in Asia presents high quality scholarly research conducted in between the Bosporus and the Pacific on a broad range of archaeological subjects of importance to audiences across Asia and around the world. The journal covers the traditional components of archaeology: placing events and patterns in time and space; analysis of past lifeways; and explanations for cultural processes and change. To this end, the publication will highlight theoretical and methodological advances in studying the past, present new data, and detail patterns that reshape our understanding of it. Archaeological Research in Asia publishes work on the full temporal range of archaeological inquiry from the earliest human presence in Asia with a special emphasis on time periods under-represented in other venues. Journal contributions are of three kinds: articles, case reports and short communications. Full length articles should present synthetic treatments, novel analyses, or theoretical approaches to unresolved issues. Case reports present basic data on subjects that are of broad interest because they represent key sites, sequences, and subjects that figure prominently, or should figure prominently, in how scholars both inside and outside Asia understand the archaeology of cultural and biological change through time. Short communications present new findings (e.g., radiocarbon dates) that are important to the extent that they reaffirm or change the way scholars in Asia and around the world think about Asian cultural or biological history.
