Bioorganic Chemistry
Bioorganic Chemistry publishes research that addresses biological questions at the molecular level, using organic chemistry and principles of physical organic chemistry. The scope of the journal covers a range of topics at the organic chemistry-biology interface, including: enzyme catalysis, biotransformation and enzyme inhibition; nucleic acids chemistry; medicinal chemistry; natural product chemistry, natural product synthesis and natural product biosynthesis; antimicrobial agents; lipid and peptide chemistry; biophysical chemistry; biological probes; bio-orthogonal chemistry and biomimetic chemistry.For manuscripts dealing with synthetic bioactive compounds, the Journal requires that the molecular target of the compounds described must be known, and must be demonstrated experimentally in the manuscript. For studies involving natural products, if the molecular target is unknown, some data beyond simple cell-based toxicity studies to provide insight into the mechanism of action is required. Studies supported by molecular docking are welcome, but must be supported by experimental data. Progress in Lipid Research
Publishing Invited ReviewsThe importance of lipids as one of the fundamental classes of biological compounds is well established. The application of our of the biochemistry, chemistry and physiology of lipids to biotechnology, the fats and oils industry and medicine have continued to expand apace. In addition new dimensions such as lipid biophysics, especially with relevance to membranes and lipoproteins, and basic liposome research and applications have been added. To cope with all these advances in knowledge a journal is needed to review recent progress in particular fields and to set current research against its historical background. Progress in Lipid Research fulfils this role.Each volume contains up-to-date surveys of special aspects of lipid research. The invited reviews are comprehensive enough to provide sufficient overview but concentrate on reporting and critically appraising the most recent data. Subjects are chosen for their timeliness or because major developments have taken place in the last few years. They include methodological reviews as well as chemical, biochemical and medical articles. All lipid compounds and derivatives are covered, ranging from fatty acids and other simple molecules, through steroids, terpenoids and phospho- or glycolipids to complex structures such as lipoproteins and biological membranes. We hope that those whose main interest is in lipid biophysics and liposome research will join as new readers, benefiting from the journal's classical aspects of lipid metabolism, lipids in signal transduction and lipid enzymology, and that current readers will benefit from the exposure to top quality research on the new aspects.PLR solely publishes review articles, and submissions are by invitation only. Finite Elements in Analysis and Design
An International Journal for Innovations in Computational MethodologiesThe aim of this journal is to provide a platform discussing the development and advanced use of computational models involving the finite element method in science and engineering. The emphasis of the journal is put on mathematical and theoretical foundations, computer implementation of numerical methods, and use of numerical procedures to solve practical but challenging problems. Works demonstrating synergistic methodological or technical developments between emerging fields, such as data science and probabilistic modeling, and more traditional computational approaches are encouraged. Review articles presenting unbiased and comprehensive reviews of state-of-the-art topics will also be considered. All submissions to FINEL will be peer reviewed, and must have archival value to be suitable for publication. Reflecting the aforementioned emphasis on solution of practical problems, numerical demonstration of proposed methodologies will generally be considered a necessary ingredient for papers appearing in FINEL. Conversely, applications of existing finite element techniques to widely studied problems, or restricted to dataset generation, will typically not be favorably considered for publication.The journal encompasses any field where numerical solution procedures for initial/boundary value problems are needed to meet design and analysis needs. Although the following list is not exhaustive, contributions are sought in structural mechanics, geomechanics, mechanical engineering, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, thermal sciences, hydrology, chemical engineering, biomechanics, electrical engineering, aero/astro engineering, and environmental engineering and science. The Journal of Constructional Steel Research provides an international forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest developments in structural steel research and their applications in civil engineering. It is aimed not only at researchers but also at those likely to be most affected by research results, i.e. designers and fabricators. Original papers of a high standard dealing with all structural engineering aspects of steel and metal structures including theoretical and experimental research on the behaviour and strength of elements, assemblages, connections and material properties are considered for publication. Submissions substantially concerned with the strength of the concrete component in steel-concrete composite members, including shear stud connections, may not suit the journal.Those presenting research findings in a form suitable for practical use are especially welcome. Papers reporting work in progress will also be included, provided the long-term practical implications of the research are evident, as will state-of-the-art papers, or those by designers and fabricators dealing with issues bearing directly on research.The journal will also present technical notes, book reviews, discussions and letters to the Editor. An International Journal on the Science and Technology of WearWEAR journal is dedicated to the advancement of fundamental and applied knowledge concerning the nature of wear of materials. Broadly, topics of interest range from development of fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of wear to innovative solutions to practical engineering problems. WEAR is seeking high-quality manuscripts with a high degree of novelty and significance. Routine studies or work that resemble slight variations to previous studies will not be considered for WEAR. Authors of experimental studies are expected to comment on the repeatability of the data, and whenever possible, conduct multiple measurements under similar testing conditions. Further, WEAR embraces the highest standards of professional ethics, and the detection of matching content, either in written or graphical form, from other publications will result in rejection.Submission... are invited on such subjects as:(a) Wear modelling and validation. This includes modelling of fundamental mechanisms as well as the modelling of tribosystems. Approaches may employ contact mechanics, frictional considerations and lubrication concepts in the development of the model, and must always include physical validation of the model by experiments. Also, approaches that use machine learning on tribological test data.(b) The development and use of new wear testing methods and standards. This includes the rationale behind their development (including a critique of existing test methodologies where appropriate).(c) New wear diagnostic tools. The need for these tools and examples of their use in either basic research or engineering should be illustrated. In-situ or real time sensing and/or imaging of tribological interfaces including optical image recognition.(d) The development of wear-resistant materials, coatings, or surface treatments. Such papers should include, for example, benchmarking against materials currently employed in targeted engineering applications, or presenting a basic hypothesis underlying the work that can be validated as an advance over the current state-of-the-art. The criteria used to select the test methods employed (and the conditions under which those tests were conducted) must be robustly justified with regard to the longevity of the targeted tribosystems in engineering applications. This includes the current or desired wear rate of such applications in comparison of the wear rates measured by the chosen experimental set-up. The proposed mechanisms of wear must be shown as results and discussed in the context of validated data and observations that support those conclusions.(e) Relationships between the composition, structure, properties, and processing of materials and their wear behavior. Such submissions should include the basic rationale for the work, its foundation in prior knowledge, and how the current approach is implemented to explore these relationships. The criteria used to select the tests or analytical methods employed shall be explained with respect to the purpose of the research, be it fundamental or applied.(f) The role of lubricants or other interfacial species in the wear of materials. Such submissions will focus on the mechanisms of wear in the presence of well-characterized interfacial environments.The Abstracts of all submissions, whether a full paper or a shorter communication, should summarize the purpose and approach to the given problem, indicate the materials under investigation, and present the primary conclusions in a brief and concise manner. Any commercialism or product promotion is unacceptable. Submissions to WEAR will be pre-screened before peer-review based on the novelty statement to assess their archival quality, clarity of communication, and the novelty of their contributions to the science and technology of wear.- ISSN: 0043-1648
Fluid Phase Equilibria
Fluid Phase Equilibria publishes high-quality papers dealing with experimental, theoretical, and applied research related to equilibrium and transport properties of fluids, solids, and interfaces. Subjects of interest include physical/phase and chemical equilibria; equilibrium and nonequilibrium thermophysical properties; fundamental thermodynamic relations; and stability. The systems central to the journal include pure substances and mixtures of organic and inorganic materials, including polymers, biochemicals, and surfactants, with sufficient characterization of composition and purity for the results to be reproduced. Naturally occurring systems that cannot be completely characterized will be considered only if they are of high practical interest and the work leads to significant new findings. In all cases, enough detail must be given to permit independent verification, and authors are also expected to provide physical or chemical interpretations of the results.Experimental research can include measurements under all conditions of temperature, pressure, and composition, including critical and supercritical. Measurements are to be associated with systems and conditions of fundamental or applied interest, and may not be only a collection of routine data, such as physical property or solubility measurements at limited pressures and temperatures close to ambient, or surfactant studies focussed strictly on micellisation or micelle structure. Papers reporting common data must be accompanied by new physical insights and/or contemporary or new theory or techniques. All data reports and analyses will be examined by NIST for consistency with the requirements posted at http://trc.nist.gov/... and computational studies can include equations of state; correlations or predictive models; molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations; statistical thermodynamics; quantum chemistry; and other applied mathematical and computational approaches. Research reporting new theories and models are expected to show adequate comparisons of predictive ability and accuracy with both applicable data and contemporary existing models. Contributions on artificial neural networks, machine learning, and similar approaches will only be considered when full details of the methodology are provided and comparisons of accuracy are made with existing physically-based models, or if no thermodynamic models are available. All reported computational studies must be fully reproducible by others. As such all algorithms and methods should be described in sufficient detail, all parameters for models, force fields, and electronic structure methods should be given explicitly in the manuscript or supporting information.The journal publishes full research papers and also short communications to describe emerging ideas for which rapid publication is essential. Critical reviews are encouraged and should be prepared in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.
