Fundamental Plasma Physics provides an open access forum for articles that address fundamental aspects of plasma physics research. Fundamental articles can be theoretical, numerical, or experimental. A contribution is considered fundamental if it advances knowledge on a topic at the frontier of plasma physics research and has broad interest within the plasma physics community. The great variety of plasmas that are in nature or produced in the laboratory make plasma science a truly multidisciplinary field. The ambition of FPP is to bring together the various plasma physics communities by focusing on methodologies, theoretical and numerical methods, experimental research, and innovative diagnostics, that further understanding of the physics of plasmas.Submitted articles must be original, of broad interest within the plasma physics community, and meet one or more of the following criteria:Initiate a new area of research or open a new line or research within an established area.Solve, or present significant progress towards solving a critical problem.Propose innovative techniques or methodologies having significant impact.Report on the discovery or invention of new plasma phenomena or new plasma applications.FPP will publish (i) Regular articles, (ii) Letters, and (iii) Reviews and Perspectives.A Regular article is a full-length article, divided in sections; it may contain appendixes and supplemental material.A Letter is a short communication (up to six pages in FPP style, not including title, affiliations, abstract, and references; however, no stringent limit will be enforced; a letter should not be divided in sections). It must contain pivotal results that are likely to have an important impact on plasma physics research at large. Submitted Letters will receive expedited peer review and accelerated publication.Reviews and Perspectives are articles submitted by members of the plasma physics community, that highlight open problems and aspects of relevance in published research and/or indicate potential developments in the field.Upon submitting an article, the corresponding author will provide a statement explaining in which way the article meets FPP publication standards in terms of broad interest, as well and with regards to the other four criteria indicated above. The corresponding author will also indicate the article type and which journal section the article belongs to.The Section Editor will take an early decision whether to initiate the evaluation process. If the decision is positive, the Section Editor will seek two anonymous referee reports. At least one of the two reports must carry a detailed assessment of the article in terms of its originality, soundness, and potential impact, while the other report may be limited to the question of broad interest. The Section Editor may also decide not to start the evaluation process for articles that she/he considers not suitable for publication in FPP. In any case, all efforts will be made to ensure a fast evaluation process.Authors of rejected manuscripts have the right to appeal to the FPP Editor-in-Chief in case they feel that their manuscript has not received a fair treatment.
An International Open Access Journal Devoted to the Advancements in Design & Application of Hybrid Materials & Technologies Hybrid Advances is an international and interdisciplinary scholarly open access journal. It publishes special content, either related to research presented at scientific events or invited contributions to thematic special issues.Hybrid materials are assembled organic-inorganic materials at the nanometer or molecular level that may be chemically bonded or physically blended. Nanometer to micrometer scales make more homogeneous materials, exhibiting improved characteristics to the initial phases and even novel properties, not be confused with simply combining two new components; these may offer advantageous performances relative to either of the non-hybrid counterparts, and could bridge the gap between ceramics and polymers. On the other hand, Hybrid technologies use a combination of conventional and unconventional technologies (at least two, but of different types) having the goal of optimization - and thus achieving more efficient systems. The research & review articles in the journal Hybrid Advances will cover the border-area of interests formed by integrating the nine companion journals, which represent cutting-edge topics contributing to a better understanding of intercalated bulk & stratified materials, phenomena at the interface, solid multicomponent materials at nanoscale, self-assembling nanostructures, solid blends & matrix inclusions, external & internal surfaces, homogeneity vs. heterogeneity consequences of functional materials and of their formed phases; also, the journal focuses on developing novel combined technologies necessary to the design, fabrication & employment of the emergent systems & devices. The journal aims for publishing on the advancements in design & application of hybrid materials & technologies, thus accommodating the following topics:Design of hybrid and composite materials, including: simulation, modelling and fabrication;Novel hybrid materials & hybrid structures, multi-functionality and the study of the relation between structure, properties and applications;Novel materials employed for advanced engineering applications, including: nanocomposites, green/eco-composites and energy hybrids such as supercapacitors, batteries, fuel cells, solar cells, solar stills, thermal systems, wind power systems, etc.;Synthesis and characterization of polymeric hybrid materials;Polymer-based hybrid composites in electronics, energy and space applications;Biomedical application of hybrid polymeric materials;Transport properties and engineering the interfaces within nanocomposite assemblies;Advanced hybrid methods for synthesis of hybrid materials for catalysis, electrocatalysis and photocatalysis; adsorption properties of porous media, clay minerals and (nano)composites;Nanofluids and hybrid phase change materials (PCM): concepts, design & applications;Materials with fillers and reinforcements at the nanoscale and microscale;Physical and chemical deposition and growth of multi-layered thin films; hybrid coating technologies and surface functionalization;2D and 3D assembly of hybrid materials;Device fabrication, hybrid semiconductors and surface nanotechnology;Building and fire retardant materials for construction industry;Surface and interfaces of hybrid biomaterials, biocompatible and dental materials; stimuli-response mechanisms and novel health-monitoring techniques;Advancements in the characterization and imaging techniques of hybrid materials;Novel category of hybrid functional materials, with thrilling properties like: electrical and thermal conductivity/insulation, thermoelectric, magnetic, optical, shape memory, ferroelectric, energy capture and storage, phase modifications, lubricating, etc.;Novel (hybrid) nanotechnologies including self-assembly, spinning, 3D printing, self-assembly and other emerging techniques are driving exciting developments in the field;Hybrid technologies in chemical engineering, biotechnology, life & natural sciences;Hybrid technologies in microelectronics, automation and renewable energy engineering;Hybrid technologies in aeronautics and automotive industry.Hybrid Advances is a companion title to a group of 9 respected journals from Surface Science, Solid State Science and Materials Science & Engineering, which naturally blend together into the concept of hybrid materials & technologies:Surface Science Progress in Surface ScienceSurfaces and InterfacesApplied Surface Science AdvancesSolid State Science Progress in Solid State ChemistryJournal of Physics and Chemistry of SolidsSolid State SciencesMaterials Science & Engineering Progress in Materials ScienceApplied Materials TodayComposites Science and Technology
The International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics provides a specific medium for dissemination of high-quality research results in the various areas of theoretical, applied, and experimental mechanics of solids, fluids, structures, and systems where the phenomena are inherently non-linear.The journal brings together original results in elasticity, plasticity, dynamics, vibrations, wave-propagation, rheology, fluid-structure interaction systems, stability, biomechanics, micro- and nano-structures, materials, metamaterials, and in other diverse areas.Papers may be analytical, computational or experimental in nature. Treatments of non-linear differential equations wherein solutions and properties of solutions are emphasized but physical aspects are not adequately relevant, will not be considered for possible publication. Both deterministic and stochastic approaches are fostered. Contributions pertaining to both established and emerging fields are encouraged.
An International JournalFounded in 1970, the Journal of Aerosol Science is the first journal specifically devoted to publishing research on the behavior of suspensions of particles and droplets in a gas, i.e. aerosols. The editors and editorial advisory board consider it the prime vehicle for the publication of original work as well as reviews related to fundamental and applied aerosol research, including aerosol instrumentation. Its content is directed at scientists working in engineering disciplines, as well as physics, chemistry, and environmental sciences. Manuscripts can focus on topics of long-standing interest in aerosol science, as well as emerging areas of interest. Editorial decisions are made based on the perceived quality and thoroughness of the submission, fit within the scope categories noted below, and novelty of the work, but not based upon speculation of the work's short term impact (i.e. perceived number of citations). While the Journal of Aerosol Science does not have any length requirements for submissions, authors are strongly encouraged to make use of online supporting information to describe particularly detailed methods, and to present supplementary results and diagrams which aid readers in understanding the main narrative. The editors specifically welcome submissions of papers describing recent experimental, numerical, and theoretical research related to the following topics. In the cover letter accompanying each submission, authors should identify the single number-letter combination which best classifies their manuscript, and explain why it is a novel contribution in this topic area.1. Fundamental Aerosol Science: a. Transport and Deposition b. Nucleation, Condensation, & Evaporation c. Radiative Absorption and Emission d. Collision Dynamics: Coagulation, Aggregation, & Charging e. Cluster Science; Atomistic Modeling and Measurements f. Aerosolization: Fluidized Beds, Atomization and Spraysg. Resuspension h. Dusty Plasmas & Non-Equilibrium Aerosols i. Population Balance Modeling2. Applied Aerosol Science: a. Aerosol-based Synthesis & Manufacturing b. Control Technology & Filtration c. Lung Deposition & Aerosol Medicine d. Inhalation Toxicology e. Bioaerosols & Aerosol based Disease Transmission f. Nuclear Aerosols g. Industrial Emission h. Combustion (Soot) & High Temperature Aerosols i. Indoor Aerosols3. Instrumentation & Measurement Methods a. Mobility Analysis b. Mass Spectrometry c. Light Scattering and Spectroscopic Techniques d. Novel Inertial Separation Schemes e. Condensation Particle Counter Developments f. Single Particle Trapping Methods g. Improved Data Inversion; Machine Learning h. Low Cost Sensors & Measurement NetworksBeside originality, a very important criterion for acceptance of a submission is its ability to communicate conclusions of general relevance to a given field. There are topics which the journal specifically does not cover, due to adequate coverage in numerous other publications. The Journal of Aerosol Science is not intended to archive data such as environmental/ambient monitoring measurements, unless new methodologies are involved or broadly relevant new conclusions for aerosol behavior are reached. Work on source apportionment, as well as global & regional climate modeling is better suited to journals with focuses on atmospheric chemistry and air quality. Routine applications of existing instruments and measurement approaches are not considered suitable for the journal. Work on instrumentation must demonstrate a significant advancement or novel implementation of the instrument or method in question. Manuscripts focusing on numerical case studies with widely available computational fluid dynamics software and built-in particle trajectory models are not appropriate for the Journal of Aerosol Science, unless the uniqueness and novelty of the approach employed is clearly evident. Numerical or analytical solutions to aerosol growth models must demonstrate that they are a significant advance over existing approaches and must not contain overly-simplified assumptions rendering them incapable of predicting the behavior of real aerosols.
The Journal of Computational Physics (JCP) focuses on the computational aspects of physical problems. JCP encourages original scientific contributions in advanced mathematical and numerical modeling reflecting a combination of concepts, methods and principles which are often interdisciplinary in nature and span several areas of physics, mechanics, applied mathematics, statistics, applied geometry, computer science, chemistry and other scientific disciplines as well: the Journal's editors seek to emphasize methods that cross disciplinary boundaries.JCP also encourages the submission of papers that develop innovative methods bridging mathematical, physical modeling and algorithmization, e.g. at the frontier between predictive simulation and machine learning. When addressing problems previously covered by other approaches, a comparison should be provided. As for any paper in JCP, the efficacy, robustness, computational complexity, as well as reproducibility should be addressed.JCP also publishes short notes of 4 pages or less (including figures, tables, and references but excluding title pages). Letters to the Editor commenting on articles already published in this Journal will also be considered. Neither notes nor letters should have an abstract. Review articles providing a survey of particular fields are particularly encouraged. Full text articles have a recommended length of 25 pages for the initial submission. Submissionssignificantly exceeding this limit will not be considered. In order to estimate the page limit, please use our template.Published conference papers are welcome provided the submitted manuscript is a significant enhancement of the conference paper with substantial additions.Reproducibility, that is the ability to reproduce results obtained by others, is a core principle of the scientific method. As the impact of and knowledge discovery enabled by computational science and engineering continues to increase, it is imperative that reproducibility becomes a natural part of these activities. The journal strongly encourages authors to make available all software or data that would allow published results to be reproduced and that every effort is made to include sufficient information in manuscripts to enable this. This should not only include information used for setup but also details on post-processing to recover published results.
