Journal of African Earth Sciences
The Journal of African Earth Sciences sees itself as the prime international interdisciplinary geological journal for all aspects of the Earth Sciences about the African plate. Papers dealing with peripheral areas are welcome if they demonstrate a tight link with Africa. The Journal publishes high quality, peer-reviewed scientific papers. It is devoted primarily to research papers but short communications relating to new developments of broad interest, reviews and book reviews will also be considered. Papers must have international appeal and should present work of more regional than local significance and dealing with well identified and justified scientific questions. Specialised technical papers, analytical or exploration reports must be avoided. Papers on applied geology should preferably be linked to such core disciplines and must be addressed to a more general geoscientific audience. The journal is closely affiliated with the Geological Society of AfricaThis journal welcomes contributions that support and advance the UN's sustainable development goals, in particular SDG 13 (Climate Action)- ISSN: 1464-343X

Marine Geoscience and Energy ResourcesÂ
Marine Geoscience and Energy Resources is an international journal covering marine geoenergy geology with emphasis on the origin and behaviour of all types of basinal fluids (e.g., hydrocarbons, mineralizing fluids, waters) in the context of basin dynamics, from the pore to the basin scale. The journal provides a multidisciplinary platform for high-quality research on the geology, geophysics and geochemistry of extant and deep-time marine and coastal basins, from continental shelves to deep-marine basins, and the related role of basinal fluids. Marine geohazards and their mitigation, marine geoenergy management, and associated geological risk studies are also welcome. Hence, the journal aims to advance the environmentally sustainable exploration of natural resources in the marine realm, while de-emphasizing the characterisation of oil and gas fields as the primary aim of research. Science advancement in the form of using geological formations for safe storage of various gases to help achieve net-zero carbon goals is particularly encouraged. The editors seek papers that broadly advance understanding of basins and fluids with general applicability, as well as those promoting environmentally sustainable exploration of natural resources in marine or terrestrial basins. Authors should analyse a region’s geological potential alongside sustainable solutions, considering how to make resource development less impactful and exploring broader implications beyond the specific basin. The editors will not consider papers on the following topics:Local case-studies that are basin or prospect specific, with little applicability outside of the study area they refer to.Coal-related research (even when comprising regional basin studies).Drilling and production engineering. The journal is essential reading for geologists, geophysicists and explorationists in academia, government, and industry working in the following areas: marine geology; basin analysis and evaluation; organic geochemistry; reserve/resource estimation; seismic stratigraphy; thermal models of basic evolution; sedimentary geology; continental margins; geophysical interpretation; structural geology/tectonics.Fo... known as Marine and Petroleum Geology, with a 2024 IF of 3.6, and 2022 CiteScore of 7.7.Scope Topics Geology of sustainable resource exploration and management in sedimentary basinsBasin dynamics and fluid (hydrocarbon, porewaters, cementation, hydrothermal/metals) migrationStructural geology and tectonicsSedimentolo... Original research papers, comments, and reviews linking field, laboratory, and/or modelling results, integrating different geospheres, and discussing soil and landscape processes on different spatial and temporal scales will be considered, provided they are sufficiently novel and of broad interest.Reviews are expected to critically discuss and synthesise findings and approaches on topics falling within the core aims of Catena. Short comments (no more than 2 journal pages i.e. ca. 2000 words) are considered for publication only if they bring important scientific new elements and/or corrections/improvem... on substantial aspects of previously published articles. Manuscript... that will not be considered include papers on the following topics:Research papers summarising literature results, and bibliometric analyses (meta-analyses are not included). Studies without explicit relation to landscape patterns or processes, such as:Purely geological or groundwater studies.Runoff studies that have no relation to soil or geomorphic change.Chemical laboratory experiments with no relation to ‘real’ field conditions.Microbiol... studies with no relation to soil formation or landscape processes.Geotechnic... and environmental engineering studies.Geobotanical... ecological and vegetation studies with no (or limited) relation to soil, hydrology, geomorphology or landscape evolution.Agricultur... production experiments without a solid relation to landscape.Studies on ecosystem services and land use planning.Comparisons of the performance and robustness of models and statistical methods (e.g. process-based, or machine learning) with no or only a minimal landscape-learning effect.Regionally oriented studies which cannot be applied to other landscapes (or lack novelty in approach or methodology). The Chairs of the Editors-in-Chief do not accept pre-submission enquiries to determine if a manuscript is likely to be of interest to the journal.- ISSN: 0341-8162

Calphad
The design of industrial processes requires reliable thermodynamic data. CALPHAD (Computer Coupling of Phase Diagrams and Thermochemistry) aims to promote computational thermodynamics through development of models to represent thermodynamic properties for various phases which permit prediction of properties of multicomponent systems from those of binary and ternary subsystems, critical assessment of data and their incorporation into self-consistent databases, development of software to optimize and derive thermodynamic parameters and the development and use of databanks for calculations to improve understanding of various industrial and technological processes. This work is disseminated through the CALPHAD journal and its annual conference. Contributions of high quality in these and related fields, especially the fields of first-principles calculations, experimental measurements of thermochemical and phase equilibrium data, phase transformations, and the process and materials designs that the CALPHAD works are based on or used for, are welcome. Please see our Guide for Authors for information on article submission.
