The Journal welcomes work that spans disciplines and methods and recruits an editorial team that is especially suited for handling such manuscripts. Empirical reports are the core of the Journal, but methodological and theoretical reports relevant to biological psychology are encouraged (see list of article types for more information). Finally, the Journal regularly publishes special issues on selected topics within its scope.
    • Progress in Biophysics & Molecular Biology

      • ISSN: 0079-6107
Aims and Scope: Progress in Biophysics &Molecular Biology is an international review journal and covers the ground between the physical and biological sciences since its launch in 1950. It indicates to the physicist the great variety of unsolved problems awaiting attention in biology and medicine. The biologist and biochemist will find that this journal presents new and stimulating ideas and novel approaches to studying and influencing structural and functional properties of the living organism. This journal will be of particular interest to biophysicists, biologists, biochemists, cell physiologists, systems biologists, and molecular biologists. The purpose of the journal is to present invited, informative and critical reviews of recent advances in different aspects of biophysics and molecular biology. The Editors welcome suggestions of topics and potential authors. As the scope of Progress in Biophysics &Molecular Biology is wide and of interest to scientists in many disciplines, authors should treat their subject matter in a manner that is authoritative yet also easily comprehensible to those who are not experts in the field. Whilst the aim of the journal is primarily to publish substantial articles reviewing progress over an extensive field, review articles covering recent advances on more limited topics are also welcome. In addition, the journal publishes many Thematic Special Issues dedicated to specific areas of investigation - often linked to high-level international conferences - that contain both substantive reviews and original research papers.

      • ISSN: 2213-0780
Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism offers a dedicated outlet for social science and natural resource research relevant to outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. The journal publishes peer-reviewed, original research that advances our understanding of outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism in the context of sustainable outdoor leisure sites and protected area management and planning. JORT covers the entire spectrum of settings, ranging from wilderness to urban outdoor recreation opportunities.JORT is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary journal. Articles may focus on any aspect of theory, method, or concept of outdoor recreation or nature-based tourism research, planning, or management. Interdisciplinary work is especially welcome and may be of a theoretical and/or case study nature. Depending on the topic of investigation, articles may be positioned within a single academic discipline or drawn from multiple disciplines in an integrative manner. Submissions should have an overarching relevance to the social sciences and natural resources and demonstrate a clear connection to nature-based tourism or outdoor recreation in natural settings. Submissions may comprise fundamental or applied research but should offering insights into the relevance of the work for managers, planners, and policymakers. Therefore, each article is accompanied by an executive summary, written by the editors or authors, highlighting the aspects of the article most relevant to outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism planning and management.JORT is international in scope and attracts scholars from all reaches of the world to facilitate the exchange of ideas. As such, the journal enhances the understanding and applied aspects of scientific knowledge, empirical results, and practitioners' needs.

    • Food Hydrocolloids

      • ISSN: 0268-005X
Food Hydrocolloids publishes original and innovative research concerned with the characterisation, functional properties and applications of hydrocolloid materials used in food products. Hydrocolloids are defined as polysaccharides and proteins of commercial importance that are added to food products to control, for example, the texture, stability, rheology and sensory properties. The key focus of the research should be on the hydrocolloid additives themselves and the source and nature of the hydrocolloids should be fully described. Details of their physicochemical characteristics must be provided such that the conclusions drawn from the study can be assessed with confidence and that the work can be repeated by others. Manuscripts should clearly outline the specific aims and objectives of the research and must include a fundamental discussion of the research findings at the molecular level and their significance. Manuscripts that simply report data without providing a detailed interpretation of the results will not be accepted for publication in the journal. Studies on hydrocolloids in complex formulations should focus on their influence on the overall properties and their mechanism of action. Simple formulation development studies that primarily aim to optimize proportions of mixed ingredients and/or investigate the variation of processing parameters to enhance formulated product properties will not be considered for publication. The main areas of interest are:The application of novel biochemical, chemical and physicochemical techniques for the characterisation of hydrocolloid materialsThe rheological and thermal properties of hydrocolloids in aqueous systems including their viscosity, viscoelastic properties and gelation behaviour The influence of hydrocolloids on the microstructure, texture and organoleptic properties of complex food systemsThe use of Artificial Intelligence approaches for the prediction and rationalisation of hydrocolloid structure–function relationships, molecular interactions and functional performance in food systemsThe interfacial properties of hydrocolloids including their application in the stabilisation of dispersions, emulsions and foamsHydrocolloid interactions with small molecules and interactions in mixed hydrocolloid systems including their phase behaviour, complexation and Maillard conjugationThe film forming properties of hydrocolloids with application in edible films, coatings and active packagingThe application of hydrocolloids to control the rheology and performance of food bio-ink formulations for 3D printingThe application of hydrocolloids for the encapsulation and controlled release of probiotics and active compounds for inclusion in food formulationsThe modification of hydrocolloid functionality through chemical, biochemical and physical processesThe extraction, physicochemical characteristics and application of hydrocolloid materials from non-traditional sources with commercial potential in food systemsThe function of hydrocolloids as soluble dietary fibre and their influence on human healthManuscripts that deal with the use of hydrocolloids in medical settings such as encapsulation of drugs, wound dressings and tissue engineering together with research involving animal studies will not be considered for publication in Food Hydrocolloids. Such work would be more appropriate for publication in Food Hydrocolloids for Health. This is an open access companion Journal devoted to hydrocolloids applied in human health and nutrition. The Food Hydrocolloids Journal publishes Review articles that provide a focussed overview of the latest developments in specific hydrocolloid research areas.
