It is published quarterly, in January, April, July and October, by Elsevier. The mission of AP-SMART is to inspire clinicians, practitioners, scientists and engineers to work towards a common goal to improve quality of life in the international community. The Journal publishes original research, reviews, editorials, perspectives, and letters to the Editor.Multidisciplinary research with collaboration amongst clinicians and scientists from different disciplines will be the trend in the coming decades. AP-SMART provides a platform for the exchange of new clinical and scientific information in the most precise and expeditious way to achieve timely dissemination of information and cross-fertilization of ideas. The information presented aims to provide a scientific yet practical approach to these five areas:Sports medicine-itself a field with cross-disciplinary dimensions, including sports traumatology, cardiology, endocrinology, accident and emergency medicine, physiology, biochemistry and biomechanics. Whilst each of these fields serves a specific domain, they all contribute importantly to the overall care of athletes.Arthroscopy-recent advances in skills and technology have driven arthroscopy to the forefront of surgical development in minimally invasive interventions for sports traumatology.Rehabilitation-an integral part of the overall management of sports trauma, comprising a comprehensive program of treatment with allied health professionals, performance optimization, preventive measures and outcome evaluationSports technology-of vital importance to biomechanical and biological research in arthroplasty and sports medicine, allowing new ideas to be tested, developed and applied in the field. We aim to establish strong links between engineers, scientists, biomechanists and administrators involved with sports and sports technology.Reconstructive surgery of the knee, shoulder and ankle-including osteotomy, total joint replacement, minimally invasive and computer-assisted surgery. The Journal's section on upper limb is devoted to the advancement of the science and management of upper limb disorders, with particular relevance to sport-related conditions.

A Journal Devoted to Pure and Applied Research on Human MovementHuman Movement Science provides a medium for publishing disciplinary and multidisciplinary studies on human movement. It brings together psychological, biomechanical and neurophysiological research on the control, organization and learning of human movement, including the perceptual support of movement. The overarching goal of the journal is to publish articles that help advance theoretical understanding of the control and organization of human movement, as well as changes therein as a function of development, learning and rehabilitation. The nature of the research reported may vary from fundamental theoretical or empirical studies to more applied studies in the fields of, for example, sport, dance and rehabilitation with the proviso that all studies have a distinct theoretical bearing. Also, we consider both systematic and met-analytical reviews of human movement. Narrative reviews are by invitation only. These aims and scope imply that purely descriptive studies are not acceptable, while methodological articles are only acceptable if the methodology in question opens up new vistas in understanding the control and organization of human movement. The same holds for articles on exercise physiology, which in general are not supported, unless they speak to the control and organization of human movement. In general, it is required that the theoretical message of articles published in Human Movement Science is, to a certain extent, innovative and not dismissible as just "more of the same."Human Movement Science will consider hypothesis-driven analyses and exploratory analyses for which the need for exploration can be motivated; the exploratory nature of any such analysis should be clearly stated. In line with its commitment to publishing methodologically sound studies, Human Movement Science now offers the possibility to publish high-powered hypothesis driven research and high-impact replications as Registered Reports. Through pre registration of hypotheses and methodology and results-independent editorial decisions, this article type neutralizes many questionable research practices incentivised by today's publish-or-perish pressures. In addition to regular issues, special issues addressing a single theme will be published. In case of special issues the above criteria may be softened if the guest editor(s) is (are) of the opinion that this will further the insight into the theme of the special issue in question. Special issues containing articles based on papers presented at conferences and workshops or consisting of a "target article" followed by peer commentaries are also admissible.Benefits to authors We also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. JSAMS Plus is the flagship open-access journal of Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) and a companion title to the highly-respected Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport (JSAMS).JSAMS Plus is an online-based scientific journal that focuses on quick publication of high-quality research and on facilitating rapid scientific exchange about published results and their meaning. The choice of article categories was made to reflect these intentions and allow the submission of manuscripts from studies that may not meet typical journal article structures everywhere. We encourage authors of studies: with small sample sizes (when convincingly justified, e.g. in elite athletes' research)replication studies (which may not be considered innovative enough by others) andnull findings studies (provided this is not due to methodological shortcomings)to submit their work. This does not mean that such studies will be acceptable "automatically" for JSAMS Plus. The same scientific quality criteria will be applied as they are established for journals like JSAMS. This means that implications from small sample size, replicative character and lacking statistical "significance" will have to be appropriately discussed. However, JSAMS Plus strives to utilize opportunities of an online-based (open access) journal in a new manner by speeding up processes without losing quality. The manuscripts must be from one of the following areas relating generally to the broad sports medicine and sports science fields: sports medicinesports injury (including injury epidemiology, injury prevention and rehabilitation)physiotherapypodiatryphysical activity and healthsports science (including biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control and learning, sport and exercise psychology and sports nutrition)public health (as relevant to sport and exercise).Animal studies will not be considered. Manuscripts with an interdisciplinary perspective with specific applications to sport and exercise and its interaction with health will also be considered as well as studies based on a qualitative methodology for data collection and analysis. Authors who are unsure about the fit of their manuscript to these criteria may consult the editorial office prior to submission.
