Pharmacy Law and Practice, Fifth Edition provides a straightforward and useable guide for students, practitioners, academics and others interested in pharmacy law and practice in the United Kingdom. This multi-dimensional book includes discussions of socio-political influences on legal developments to provide greater insight to the reader. It clearly sets out the background to regulatory issues together with simple and practical statements of what a pharmacist has to do to obey the law. Humor and Aging deals with humor throughout the life span, although primary attention is given to humor about and by the elderly. The book contains theoretical and review material from infancy to old age and includes empirical studies of death and dying in both our own and other societies. The book is divided into four parts. Part I considers theoretical models of humor development across the life span and discusses physiological, psychological, and sociological processes. Part II deals with ways of considering humor and aging from different vantage points. These include (1) humor about people of different ages; (2) humor for people of different ages; and (3) humor by people of different ages. Part III addresses the grim subject of death and dying and how it lends itself to humorous treatment in our own and other societies. Part IV contains brief empirical reports. Since scientific research in humor and aging is only beginning, it seems important to discuss pilot work in hopes that others will follow. Finally, an epilogue by Loeb and Wood presents a compelling theoretical approach.

Bringing a Corporate Security Culture to Life is a video presentation. Length: 18 minutes. In Bringing a Corporate Security Culture to Life, presenter Peter Cheviot, former vice president of corporate security for BAX Global Inc., discusses how to build and maintain a corporate security culture that encourages company employees to take ownership of security and facilitates communication. In this 18-minute video presentation of narrated slides, the concept of "security culture" is defined, and Cheviot explains how it can improve the effectiveness of security and risk management programs. Security culture refers to the idea that the security manager must encourage shared ownership of and accountability for the organization’s security program among all employees. In this presentation, the ways to achieve a good security culture are outlined. They include impressing the return on investment (ROI) of security services, designating security ambassadors for various functional areas of the business, providing training, connecting with senior management, and sharing security program performance results. When employees and other business stakeholders feel that they have ownership over security policies, the results are higher compliance, return on investment, and net gains through continuous improvements. The tools and recommendations found in Bringing a Corporate Security Culture to Life will help security managers and their teams achieve these results. Bringing a Corporate Security Culture to Life is a part of Elsevier’s Security Executive Council Risk Management Portfolio, a collection of real world solutions and "how-to" guidelines that equip executives, practitioners, and educators with proven information for successful security and risk management programs.

Operation Intercept: The Multiple Consequences of Public Policy analyzes the taken-for-granted reality of the search-and-destroy anti-marihuana legislation. This book focuses on the Operation Intercept, a policy that aims to control the importation of illegal drugs, marihuana in particular, across the United States-Mexican border. Chapter 1 discusses the objectives of Operation Intercept and the factors and assumptions underlying this policy. Chapter 2 examines the availability of marihuana during the Operation Intercept period and the unanticipated consequences of such policy decision. Chapter 3 presents data that confirms marihuana shortage in New York City during the summer and early fall of 1969. Lastly, Chapter 4 provides an appraisal of anti-drug policies in the past and an examination of the general drug abuse problem in the United States. Sociologists who are interested in deviant behavior and social problems will find this book invaluable.

Managing Extreme Financial Risk addresses the need for better management strategies in light of increased market risk and volatility in financial institutions' revenue models. Top officials from the financial and regulatory industries point to real corporate issues, showing how institutions react to financial crises. From first-hand experiences, they explain how effective sustainability management does not just prevent being blindsided; it also leads to proactive solutions that enhance an institution's strength to weather a sudden financial crisis, add significant shareholder value, and reduce systemic risk. Readable, coherent, and logical, Managing Extreme Financial Risk shows how extreme risk needs to be handled when the cost of being wrong means the difference between life and death of the institution.

An unconventional evaluation of the causes which, in the last ten years, have dramatically pushed down the rates of economic growth. The distinguished author, a member of the Club of Rome, argues that it is not simply a question of a new long term economic cycle of the types described by Schumpeter and Kondratieff, but is rather the effect of a fundamental change in the traditional, industrial modes of production. A clear evaluation of such change leads to the necessity of reformulating the notion of economic value, in order to find new strategies for developing a nation's wealth.
