Progress in Aeronautical Sciences, Volume 10 provides information pertinent to the development in aeronautical sciences. This book discusses a variety of topics, including thermoelasticity, turbulent boundary, as well as the manufacturing methods, reliability, problem areas, and applications under development in fluidic systems. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the theoretical problems of elasticity. This text then discusses the state of research in the complex fields of turbulent boundary layers with fluid injections. Other chapters consider as well the problems of supersonic flow past wings and bodies. This book discusses as well the flow in hypersonic wakes in ionized gases. The reader is also introduced to the possible applications of the compressible turbulent boundary layer with fluid injection. The final chapter discusses the components used in fluidic systems, which are described with emphasis on their general system of operation and general properties. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

Early Electrodynamics discusses the history and initial developments in the theory for steady currents. The volume consists primarily of analysis on thesis in the field of electric science. A section of the book focuses on one thesis, the Dramatis Personae. An extensive account of the background of its author, Hans Christian Oersted, is given. Another personality of merit is Jean Baptiste Biot. He was one of the people who used a balloon to detect the oscillations of a small magnet. This experiment was one of his attempts to study the magnetic action of electric currents. The text contains a section on Ampere’s philosophy of science. This philosophy greatly contributed to the science of electricity. Andre Marie Ampere conceptualized the theory of electrodynamics of steady currents. Ampere also proposed the quantitative theory of magnetism. A chapter of the book talks about the connection between an electrical conductor and a magnet. The book will provide useful information to electrical engineers, physicists, students and researchers in the field of electricity.

Physics of the Earth's Interior embraces such a wide range of properties and processes that the space available in one volume imposes severe limitations on their discussion. Moreover, the uneven familiarity of any geophysicist with the many fields of natural science which are involved favors their uneven treatment. For these reasons, the author has limited discussions related to gravity, terrestrial magnetism, tectonic processes, and the history of the earth, to such problems which, if solved, may give information on the earth's interior. On the other hand, seismological investigations are discussed only insofar as they bear upon the structure of the earth and the physics of its interior; seismology is to be treated in detail in another monograph of this series. The book contains nine chapters and begins with a discussion of methods of investigating the earth's interior, and the accuracy of the results. This is followed by separate chapters on the structure of the earth; the crust, mantle, and core; temperature and thermal processes in the earth; density, pressure, gravity, and flattening in the earth; elastic constants, and elastic processes; and nonelastic processes in the earth.

EPS - High Energy Physics '89 presents the proceeding of the International Europhysics Conference on High Energy physics, held in Madrid, Spain, on September 6–13, 1989. This book outlines several topics on the interface between cosmology/astrophysi... and particle physics. Organized into two parts encompassing 181 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the implications of the cosmic light element abundances. This text then examines the various aspects of lattice field theory. Other chapters consider the theoretical evidence of a fundamental length in string theory and outline the main features of the higher order corrections to the heavy quark inclusive cross section. This book discusses as well the theory of heavy quark production in hadron collision. The final chapter deals with the idea of low-energy supersymmetry, which relates the scale of supersymmetry breaking to the origin and stability of the electroweak scale. This book is a valuable resource for astrophysicists, physicists, and scientists.

A Concise Text-Book of Organic Chemistry is a handy guide for chemistry students preparing for Advanced Level certificates. The nature of organic chemistry, compared with that of inorganic chemistry, is basically the chemistry of carbon. The book focuses on the arrangements and changes of the atoms inside the carbon molecules. The molecular formulas of organic compounds are therefore studied, including alkanes and their derivatives known as aliphatic or fatty acids, as well as the hydrocarbons of the benzene series and derivatives known as the aromatic compounds. The aliphatic amines as derivatives of ammonia resulting from the substitution of the hydrogen atoms by alkyl groups are described. The formula for methane, although at present is convenient for general purposes, is shown to be not a true representative of the actual arrangement in which four H radicals are grouped around the carbon atom. Castor oil, linseed, and other drying oils are also examined in terms of their glyceride (of other long chain unsaturated acids) content. Carbohydrates, divided as monosaccharides, polysaccharides, and glycosides, are discussed as to their empirical composition. The several methods and reagents for synthesizing organic compounds are explained, using the simple aliphatic organic compounds as an example. The aromatic series of organic compounds, such as the benzene series of hydrocarbons, and the aromatic sulfonic acids, phenols, and ethers are then analyzed. This book is suitable for students of organic chemistry and for those preparing for tests in the General Certificate of Education and for the Ordinary National Certificate. Readers related to agricultural, medical, pharmaceutical, and technological and technical courses can find this guide relevant.

Thermodynamics of Clouds is a coherent and rational account of the thermodynamics of clouds that requires only a little knowledge of general thermodynamics; which takes up each idea from the beginning and allows the reader to appreciate the degree of rigor or of approximation at each stage; and which discusses each hypothesis and develops each theory with a clear statement of the basic physical concepts. It places at the disposal of meteorologists a working tool which will allow them to master the problems encountered in this branch of meteorology. The book contains 13 chapters that can be organized into three general parts. The first part establishes the general formulas of the thermodynamics of surfaces. In the second part the general formulas that were established in the preceding chapters are applied to some meteorological problems. The third and final part of the book deals with the theory of condensation and crystallization germs.
