In 2018, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) approved significant changes leading to a comprehensive taxonomic scheme, allowing the global organization of the virus world (also known as virus megataxonomy). Aquaculture Virology, Second Edition updates the current knowledge on aquatic animal viruses so that all virus families (including those with many newly discovered aquatic animal viruses and those with previously unclassified aquatic animal viruses that have been now assigned) are available under one cover, increasing the number of book chapters from 37 in the first edition to 44 chapters in the second edition. The aims, philosophy, target audience, focus, and format of this second edition of Aquaculture Virology remain unchanged. Like the first edition, this book is a systematic and concise resource useful to anyone involved with or looking to move into aquaculture and fisheries. Clinical veterinarians, aquaculture disease practitioners, biologists, farmers, and all those in industry, government, or academia interested in aquatic animal virology will find this book extremely useful.

Applications of Seaweeds in Food and Nutrition provides an overview on the cultural, biological and engineering dimensions relating to seaweed as a food. With the need for sustainable and healthy foods growing, this comprehensive resource explores how seaweeds can deliver not only nutritional benefits, but also antiviral and antibacterial properties as a food additive and within food processing and manufacturing. Recent developments show that the use of seaweed extracts as a compound can prevent browning. It use in other areas such as a thickening and gelling agents in foods and cosmetics is also encouraging. There are hundreds of different varieties of seaweed known to mankind, yet very little literature is available on the processing of these "crops." This book provides these valuable and practical insights.

Aquaculture Pharmacology is a reliable, up-to-date, "all inclusive" reference and guide that provides an understanding of practical drug information for the aquaculture industry. This book covers the sources, chemical properties, and mechanisms of action of drugs, and the biological systems upon which they act. It covers various drug interactions, therapeutic uses of drugs, as well as legal considerations within the industry as a whole. It presents the four main groups of drugs used in fish, crustaceans and molluscs and includes disinfectants, antimicrobial drugs, antiparasitic agents, and anesthetics, and identifies areas where more research is needed to generate more knowledge to support a sustainable aquaculture industry. With the burgeoning international aquaculture expansion and expanding global trade in live aquatic animals and their products this book is useful to bacteriologists, mycologists, aquaculturists, clinical practitioners in aquatic animal health and all those in industry, government or academia who are interested in aquaculture, fisheries and comparative biology.

Genetic Breeding and Molecular Marker-Assisted Selective Breeding of Largemouth Bass provides evidenced-based research that summarizes the theory and practice of genetic breeding. It provides a theoretical basis and technical support for the genetic improvement of largemouth bass varieties, but is also a good reference on the genetic breeding of other farmed fish. As knowledge of systematic studies, including germplasm resources, biology, quantitative genetics, selection breeding, variety hybridization and molecular marker assisted breeding is needed to increase growth performance, this book provides comprehensive information that is suitable for aquatic genetic breeding researchers and undergraduate and graduate students in aquatic genetics and breeding.

To date textbooks on viruses infecting fish, crustaceans and molluscs, the three main aquatic animal farmed groups, have been on the whole “diseases-centric” and individual viral diseases selected based on “epizoo-centric” approaches with little to no coverage of the basic biology of the viruses, in contrast to textbooks on viruses infecting terrestrial – farmed, pet, and free-range (wild) – animals and humans. Despite considerable advances in animal virology in recent years coupled with an economically important global aquaculture industry, knowledge of viruses of animal aquaculture is still sparse and in some cases outdated although these viruses are closely related to well-known virus families. The last book in fish virology (Fish viruses and fish viral diseases 1988, Wolf, K.) was published in the 1980s. A lot of work has been done on fish viruses and many new aquatic animal viruses continue to be discovered. Aquaculture Virology provides the current state of knowledge of aquatic animal viruses within the current virus classification and taxonomic context thereby allowing the reader to draw on the principles of general virology. This book is a systematic and concise resource useful to anyone involved with or looking to move into aquaculture and fisheries. Clinical veterinarians, aquaculture disease practitioners, biologists, farmers, and all those in industry, government or academia who are interested in aquatic animal virology will find this book extremely useful.
