Common methods include sand filtration, membrane filtration, and disinfection with chemicals like chlorine or ultraviolet light. (e) Sludge treatment and disposal: The solids that are removed during primary and secondary treatment, known as sludge, must be further treated before they can be safely disposed of or used. Common methods include anaerobic digestion, composting, and drying.
