An interdisciplinary journal, Brain and Language publishes articles that elucidate the complex relationships among language, brain, and behavior. The journal covers the large variety of modern techniques in cognitive neuroscience, including functional and structural brain imaging, electrophysiology, cellular and molecular neurobiology, genetics, lesion-based approaches, and computational modeling. All articles must relate to human language and be relevant to the understanding of its neurobiological and neurocognitive bases. The International Journal of Production Economics focuses on topics treating the interface between engineering and management. All aspects of the subject in relation to manufacturing and process industries, as well as production in general are covered. The journal is interdisciplinary in nature, considering whole cycles of activities, such as the product life cycle - research, design, development, test, launch, disposal - and the material flow cycle - supply, production, distribution.The ultimate objective of the journal is to disseminate knowledge for improving industrial practice and to strengthen the theoretical base necessary for supporting sound decision making. However, we stress that the hurdles for consideration of such papers are high. They must demonstrate a strong need, show that they are well-executed, and generate valuable insights. Survey and review papers must position themselves clearly in relation to existing related reviews and surveys in the field. Systematic reviews that merely describe publication patterns in a particular field are unlikely to be sent out for review for IJPE. All survey and review papers must show valuable critique of the field and new insights. The Journal of Economic Asymmetries
The journal aims to publish scholarly articles on economic, financial, technological and legal asymmetries within and among markets in an increasingly globalized world.Asymmetries are broadly interpreted as economic relationships between trading partners with unequal market power and also in the narrow technical sense of dissimilar information between trading agents.Asymmetries also may arise in cases of economic, financial or currency crises. The wide range of dissimilar policy recommendations in such cases may also reflect asymmetric policy responses.Closely related to international economic asymmetries, one may find economic, legal and technological conditions differing from one economy to another because of the size of countries, their institutions and their history. Acknowledging and investigating such differences is also a concern of the journal.The recent global financial crisis has created numerous economic asymmetries. Topics of interest include: sovereign debt, banking fragility, corporate deleveraging, asymmetries in macro-prudential regulation between countries with high and low developed financial markets, persistent high unemployment, challenges in the conduct of appropriate monetary and fiscal policies, national versus supranational regulatory systems, consequences of the Euro-zone financial crisis, the future of the euro, global monetary and fiscal stability, strategies to stop the immense increases in fiscal deficits and to regain fiscal stability, regulatory systems limiting world-wide contagion effects, regulatory measures to increase the soundness of the banks' balance sheets and to supervise financial transactions between globalised banks, multiple equilibria in financial markets, wealth volatility, the behavior of commodity markets and changes in leading currency markets. Applied Corpus Linguistics
Corpus linguistics (CL) is a rapidly growing area of research worldwide, and CL techniques and approaches to large scale textual data analysis are being adopted and extended in a wide range of contexts. Corpus research is no longer confined primarily to the study of linguistics and to generalised language description but is now applied in diverse fields, such as forensic linguistics, social policy studies, food studies, anthropology, writing development studies, translation and interpreting, and the analysis of corporate and government communications.With this broadening of the range of applications of corpus methods and frameworks has come a need for a journal in which studies and reports can be brought together for an audience of researchers and practitioners that are interested in the range of applications of corpus linguistics. The role of Applied Corpus Linguistics is to provide a forum for further theorisation of corpus data analysis techniques, for the sharing of case studies and of new methods, and to advance the development and consolidation of applied corpus linguistics as a major force in social research.The journal welcomes contributions in the form of full length research articles, discussion papers, short technical papers and book reviews. While the emphasis is on applications rather than on theorisations, it is expected that all studies will be adequately theorised. As the intended readership extends beyond corpus linguistics, however, the focus must be on application and on communication of content to a non-specialist reader. Papers reporting technical innovations and novel data visualisation methods (for demonstrably effective communication) are encouraged.It is recognised that 'applied' is a term that defies easy definition. Within this journal, 'applied corpus linguistics' is understood to include the use of corpus resources, techniques and tools in order to do something in a real-world context such as to carry out authorship attribution in a legal setting, or to identify the features of test-taker oral performances at different proficiency levels; to explore patterning in public discourses, or to obtain fresh understandings of how language is used in specific contexts. 'Applied corpus linguistics' additionally covers research into how groups of people (typically non-researchers) use corpus resources for their own particular purposes, such as in data-driven language learning or in lexicography. Social Science Research
Social Science Research publishes papers devoted to quantitative social science research and methodology. The journal features articles that illustrate the use of quantitative methods to empirically test social science theory. The journal emphasizes research concerned with issues or methods that cut across traditional disciplinary lines. Special attention is given to methods that have been used by only one particular social science discipline, but that may have application to a broader range of areas with an ultimate goal of testing social science theory.Social Science Research welcomes submissions that significantly advance quantitative research methods. Judgment of significance will be based on three criteria: 1. Whether or not the problem that the author(s) attempts to solve represents a major obstacle in theory testing; 2. How prevalent the problem is across different social science disciplines and research areas; 3. Studies in Educational Evaluation publishes high-quality scholarly work that improves knowledge, theory, policy, and practice in educational evaluation and assessment across diverse educational contexts worldwide. The journal provides an international forum for research in the field of educational evaluation. Papers are expected to draw implications for either the evaluation of educational personnel and educational institutions, or for the evaluation of programs and students. Its main focus is on urbanisation in its broadest sense in the developing world. However, increasingly the interrelationships and linkages between cities and towns in the developing and developed worlds are becoming apparent and solutions to the problems that result are urgently required. The economic, social, technological and political systems of the world are intertwined and changes in one region almost always affect other regions. Habitat International welcomes reports of research on urban issues such as policy and implementation, the links between planning, building and land, finance and management, urban design, the interaction between the natural environment and urban areas the provision of urban services and other related problems. Papers on topics which clearly have broad implications and interrelationships based on the experiences of the developing or developed world will be considered. Submissions exploring these issues within the development context are particularly welcomed. Quality papers, short communications, comments on published papers and reports on relevant conferences from all parts of the world are presented as it is recognised that such urban problems arise everywhere. JoHLSTE is designed to have maximum impact through it being available on-line, fully archived and peer-reviewed.JoHLST... is divided into seven sections: Editorial; Academic Papers; Practice Papers, Perspectives, Comments and Rejoinders, Research Notes and Reports and Education Resource Reviews.(1) The Editorial addresses items of contemporary interest on an ad-hoc basis.(2) For the Academic Papers section JoHLSTE invites full-length manuscripts (around 8,000 words) from a variety of disciplines. These papers will be subject to double blind peer review. Subjects covered include the broad areas of knowledge, policy, curriculum, learning and teaching, assessment, resources, employability, careers and quality. Both conceptual and empirical approaches are welcome. Manuscripts may take the form of research papers, case studies, literature reviews, critical evaluations, new methodologies and action research. Purely descriptive accounts are not considered suitable.(3) The Practice Papers section encourages shorter contributions (around 3,000 words) from practicing teachers and others involved in the delivery of education and training including; employers, educational managers, staff developers and library and careers guidance staff.
