Preference is given to contributions describing research results whose feasibility has been demonstrated either in a laboratory or in the industrial praxis. CIRP Members and leading experts are equally encouraged to submit case studies and review papers on specific issues in manufacturing science and technology. The review papers need to be authored by the leading experts with well-established expertise in the field.A typical journal article is authored by the researcher and their supervisor. A paper can also be co-authored with another researcher or institution, but the number of authors typically does not exceed 4-5 people who directly contributed to the research. Others who indirectly contributed (e.g., through editing, conducting experiments, or providing funding) can be acknowledged, but should not be listed as authors.The Journal has been established by CIRP, The International Academy for Production Engineering to meet the needs above.     Cell Systems was established in 2015 to provide a home at Cell Press for elegant work that addresses fundamental questions in systems biology. "Systems biology," as we broadly define it, is work that develops a rigorous understanding of any biological phenomenon where one plus one does not apparently equal two. Disciplines in the physical sciences have met this challenge for a long time, and we've found that our strongest papers tend to apply quantitative, inference-based approaches taken in physics, engineering, mathematics, and computer science to salient biological questions.We believe it's our responsibility to ensure that the next generation of scientists can begin their work on solid ground. Accordingly, we focus our review process on validity and scientific acuity, rather than more subjective feelings and opinions. We also believe that scientific transparency is of paramount importance. A study's structure and presentation should be candid and forthright (e.g. it should ensure fair comparisons; it should either use non-arbitrary cut-offs or clearly explained arbitrary cut-offs that do not affect outcomes; its data visualization choices should promote objective understanding; its limitations should not be obscured). Fundamentally good scientific practice also demands that studies be repeatable. We encourage authors to make their code and data FAIR, that is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, as defined by the NIH data commons. Although it is too early to formally require that all studies we publish be FAIR, we consider that requirement annually.As editors, we hold ourselves to the same standards of transparency but also recognize that living up to those standards requires constant effort.     Journal of Insect Physiology publishes papers on all aspects of insect physiology, and also on the physiology of other arthropods if the referees consider the work to be of general interest. We prioritise papers that test broad physiological questions or hypotheses over narrower, more focused papers. Current topical areas of interest include endocrinology, environmental physiology, neurobiology, metabolic physiology and gas exchange, nutrition and growth, reproduction, and behaviour. Papers on interactions of microbiomes with physiological processes may be appropriate. Papers on functional genomics and molecular approaches may be considered if they bear directly on physiological problems; typically these papers should contain physiological data, not just transcriptomic data and other bioinformatics approaches. Innovative methods papers are also welcomed. Review articles will be considered by invitation only and by prior arrangement with the Editors-in-Chief. Given the recent increases in the number of submissions addressing pesticides, we have adopted the following policy. Such manuscripts may be appropriate for the journal but only if they address basic physiological problems. Use of alternative and complementary methods: Whenever appropriate and feasible, authors are encouraged to consider established genetic approaches such as CRISPR/Cas‑mediated gene knockout prior to relying on RNA interference (RNAi). When RNAi is employed, results should be supported by complementary approaches, including pharmacological inhibition or other independent validation methods.2. Minimization of off‑target effects: To reduce the possibility of off‑target silencing, at least two non‑overlapping dsRNA sequences targeting the same gene must be tested separately.3. Rigorous experimental controls: RNAi experiments must include a non-treatment (or vehicle) control, as well as multiple dsRNA treatment controls (such as dsRNA against unrelated genes like GFP, as well as dsRNA against other endogenous genes, such as those in the same gene family) to demonstrate specificity of the observed phenotypes.4. Demonstration of specific and significant knockdown: Authors must provide quantitative evidence (e.g., qRT‑PCR or other validated quantitative assays) showing that expression of the target gene is significantly reduced by the specific dsRNA treatments, but not by control dsRNAs. A minimum of three independent biological replicates is required for each treatment. Whenever possible, knockdown should also be confirmed by an independent method, such as quantification of the encoded protein.5. Consideration of biological and technical variability: The editorial board recognizes that factors such as dsRNA delivery method, developmental stage, and tissue accessibility can strongly influence RNAi outcomes. Manuscripts will therefore be evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis, taking these experimental constraints into account.

The journal provides a forum for molecular studies that advance our understanding of phylogeny and evolution, further the development of phylogenetically more accurate taxonomic classifications, and ultimately bring a unified classification for all the ramifying lines of life.The journal encourages articles that are multidisciplinary, especially in areas, such as bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, and organismic biology, that are of interest to the community of systematic and evolutionary biologists. In addition, presentations of new findings on or insights into evolutionary processes and mechanisms as expressed at the molecular level are welcome, as are those that deal with the methodology of reconstructing evolutionary history from molecular data (such as descriptions of new or more powerful computer algorithms for constructing phylogenetic trees from orthologous nucleotide or aminoacid sequences). A deeper understanding of the mechanisms and processes of molecular evolution should lead to more accurate models of molecular evolution, which in turn should facilitate the development of better algorithms for reconstructing evolutionary history from sequence data.Papers based on few taxa and single molecular markers (for example, including only mitochondrial or chloroplast genes or genomes) will not be considered for publication. Papers based on a few molecular markers obtained by legacy PCR-Sanger or other methods, although acceptable in principle, will receive low priority or will be considered only in exceptional cases. Well into the genomics-era, MPE aspires to publish phylogenies based on genome-wide datasets obtained by next-gen approaches. Multi-locus datasets which attempt to provide signal from across the genome are a minimum requirement.
