  • Metallurgical and Materials Applications of Shock-Wave and High-Strain-Rate Phenomena

    • 1st Edition
    • December 11, 1995
    • L.E. Murr + 2 more
    • English
The proceedings of EXPLOMETâ„¢ '95, International Conference on Metallurgical and Materials Applications of Shock-Wave and High-Strain-Rate Phenomena in Materials, was the fourth in the EXPLOMETâ„¢ quinquennial series begun in 1980. In the period since the last conference in 1990, significant world events have played a major role in the emphasis of topic areas. Shock consolidation continues to be an actively pursued research topic, but industrial applications have eluded it. Nonetheless, the pervasive theme of applications of shock wave and related high-strain-rate phenomena in a wide range of materials systems and processes remained a principal feature of this conference. Divided into eight sections, the book contains a total of 110 papers. Section I deals with dynamic consolidation of materials, while Section II covers dynamic fracture phenomena. Materials aspects of ballistic and hypervelocity impact and penetration are described in Section III, followed by a related treatment of extreme plastic deformation, including adiabatic shear bands, dynamic recrystallization, shaped charges, and explosively formed penetrator phenomena in Section IV. Modeling and simulation of shock-wave and high-strain-rate phenomena in materials is treated in Section V followed by shock-induced reactions and synthesis in Section VI, and shock wave modification materials structure and properties in Section VII. The final section (VIII) includes papers dealing generally with explosive welding, high-strain-rate deformation, and material working. This book, with emphasis on materials applications and effects, will provide a useful research update in the metallurgical materials applications of shock-wave and high-strain-rate phenomena, as well as a general reference tool and teaching component for specialized curricular dealing with dynamic effects in materials.
  • Water Hammer

    Practical Solutions
    • 1st Edition
    • December 1, 1995
    • Bruce Sharp + 1 more
    • English
Water hammer, or the study of fluid transient behaviour, is one of the most common problems in the water engineering community. This book covers the many causes and solutions in a practical way and is an essential reference for all those concerned with the flow of liquids, not just water, in pipe systems. It follows on from the authors' previous monograph on the problems and solutions of water hammer and presents common problems in the form of case studies. This is an interesting and useful read for practising engineers working in this area and it will enable them to make comparisons with their own problems. Also the practical nature of the book makes it useful for civil engineering departmental libraries and departments where hydraulic design is taught.
  • Science for Motor Vehicle Engineers

    • 1st Edition
    • December 1, 1995
    • Peter Twigg
    • English
The primary aim of this book is to provide the necessary scientific principles for NVQ students specialising in motor vehicle engineering at levels 2 and 3. Unlike many other engineering science texts, it emphasises the topics most useful to vehicle engineers, and includes numerous real-life examples, with questions directly related to cars, motor cycles and commercial vehicles.
  • Current Advances in Mechanical Design and Production VI

    • 1st Edition
    • December 1, 1995
    • M.E. Elarabi + 1 more
    • English
The International Conference on Mechanical Design and Production has been established since 1979 by the Department of Mechanical Design and Production at Cairo University. The conference MDP-6 held in Cairo, 2-4 January 1996, represents the 6th in the series. Its aim was to highlight the current advances in mechanical design and production, and to disseminate the latest developments from academic and industrial institutions in all related scientific disciplines. This publication includes a selection of papers submitted to the conference and reviewed by members of the scientific committee. The main areas of the papers include: materials processing and characterization constitutive modeling; simulation and analysis of manufacturing processes; numerical analysis of structures; fracture analysis; design and tribology; dynamics, control and robotics; and new trends in industrial and manufacturing engineering.
  • Cobol for Students

    • 4th Edition
    • December 1, 1995
    • Andrew Parkin + 1 more
    • English
COBOL for Students has established itself as one of the most successful teaching texts on COBOL programming and is now in its fourth edition. The first part of the book concentrates on the fundamentals of the language and takes students to the point where they can write modestly sized programs using sequential files. Part two assumes competence in elementary COBOL and explains design and other programming techniques which should be part of the professional programmer's repertoire. Part three extends the student's knowledge of the language by explaining some of the more advanced features of COBOL.Written for students learning COBOL for the first time, it takes the reader from the basic fundamentals right through to some of the more advanced features in one handy, and inexpensive volume. As many lecture courses have been based upon earlier editions of this book, this edition maintains the highly successful style and format and has been updated to include the 'Intrinsic Function Module for COBOL'. (This is the ANSI Standard X3.23a-1989 (COBOL 89) which has also been adopted as ISO International Standard 1989 Addendum 1 (an addendum to the ANSI Standard X3.23-1985 (COBOL 85)) and consists mainly of 42 predefined functions related to many different application areas).
  • Advances in Heat Transfer

Radiative Heat Transfer by the Monte Carlo Method

    • November 22, 1995
    • English
This book presents the basic principles and applications of radiative heat transfer used in energy, space, and geo-environmental engineering, and can serve as a reference book for engineers and scientists in researchand development. A PC disk containing software for numerical analyses by the Monte Carlo method is included to provide hands-on practice in analyzing actual radiative heat transfer problems.Advances in Heat Transfer is designed to fill the information gap between regularly scheduled journals and university level textbooks by providing in-depth review articles over a broader scope than journals or texts usually allow.

  • Modern CMOS Circuits Manual

    • 1st Edition
    • November 21, 1995
    • R M MARSTON
    • English
This Circuits Manual examines operating principles and practical applications of modern medium-speed and 'fast' CMOS digital ICs. 470 carefully selected circuits, diagrams, graphs and tables are supported by the informative 'how to' text and by detailed descriptions of more than 120 modern CMOS ICs and their practical applications. Although ideal for practical design engineers and technicians, this book will doubtless also be of great interest to hobbyists and students of electronics.Using clear and comprehensive language, each chapter begins with an explanation of the basic principles of the subject followed by the presentation of circuits and useful data. The first chapter describes and explains digital IC basics, CMOS and TTL principles, the various CMOS sub-families and CMOS basic-usage rules. Chapter 2 gives a practical introduction to CMOS basics via the 4007UB IC, which can be used in both digital and linear applications. Chapter 3 deals with modern logic circuitry, and Chapter 4 with CMOS bilateral switches and data selectors. The next six chapters progress through waveform generator circuitry, clocked flip-flop and counter circuits, ICs, special counter/dividers, data latches, registers, comparators, and code converters. Chapter 11 focuses on specialised types of IC such as multiplexers and decoders while the final chapter presents a miscellaneous collection of useful CMOC circuits.
