We believe in the power of quality primary care, considering the psychological, social, and economic dimensions of health, to reduce social inequities and reach all at-risk populations, including children and adolescents, older people, women, and other minoritised or underserved communities.
We consider topics from public health promotion and preventive interventions, such as screening and vaccination, to diagnosis, treatment, and management of all common health needs across people’s lifespan, including infectious diseases; sexual, maternal, and reproductive health; NCDs; mental health; and oral and eye health. We are also interested in research focusing on values-based and person-centred care, workforce training and wellbeing, health-care financing, and technological advances that can optimise diagnosis, management, referrals, and collaboration with other medical specialties.
Following The Lancet's tradition of publishing work influential to health policy, we advocate for building sustainable and resilient primary care around the world to contribute towards universal healthcare coverage and build healthier societies. We hope to serve as an independent platform for the community to discuss the most pressing issues affecting its workforce, clinical decision making, healthcare delivery models, and patient experience, and facilitate alliances between health-care professionals, the public, and policy makers to shape the future of primary care.
We publish a range of content types including Articles, Review, Viewpoint, Comment, and Correspondence. We will also publish Series and Commissions that aim to reshape primary care delivery worldwide. Learn more about the types of papers we publish.
