Expert Systems With Applications is a refereed international journal whose focus is on exchanging information relating to expert and intelligent systems applied in industry, government, and universities worldwide. The thrust of the journal is to publish original papers dealing with the design, development, testing, implementation, and/or management of expert and intelligent systems, and also to provide practical guidelines in the development and management of these systems. The journal will publish papers in expert and intelligent systems technology and application in the areas of, but not limited to: finance, accounting, engineering, marketing, auditing, law, procurement and contracting, project management, risk assessment, information management, information retrieval, crisis management, stock trading, strategic management, network management, telecommunications, space education, intelligent front ends, intelligent database management systems, medicine, chemistry, human resources management, human capital, business, production management, archaeology, economics and energy. Papers in multi-agent systems, knowledge management, neural networks, knowledge discovery, data and text mining, multimedia mining, and genetic algorithms will also be published in the journal. The journal no longer considers papers that contain applications to military/defense systems.Papers detailing algorithms which repurpose existing concepts within the framework of metaphors inspired by various systems and processes, such as natural, technical, or social ones are discouraged as this can hinder effective algorithm comparisons and scientific advancement. Submissions from this field are required to convincingly demonstrate their contribution to the field in order to be considered for further evaluation. Authors are urged to present their methods with clarity, employing standard optimization terminology, and to provide compelling explanations for how their components are adapted to specific problem-solving contexts. The emphasis is on genuine innovation rather than the renaming of existing concepts.Natural metaphor articles - new nature-inspired proposals detailed in papers must provide formal, mathematically grounded explanations for how they differ from established methods and the use of metaphors as superficial embellishments is discouraged.Software PublicationWe invite you to convert your open source software into an additional journal publication in Software Impacts, a multi-disciplinary open access journal. Software Impacts provides a scholarly reference to software that has been used to address a research challenge. The journal disseminates impactful and re-usable scientific software through Original Software Publications which describe the application of the software to research and the published outputs.

The International Journal of Production Economics focuses on topics treating the interface between engineering and management. All aspects of the subject in relation to manufacturing and process industries, as well as production in general are covered. The journal is interdisciplinary in nature, considering whole cycles of activities, such as the product life cycle - research, design, development, test, launch, disposal - and the material flow cycle - supply, production, distribution.The ultimate objective of the journal is to disseminate knowledge for improving industrial practice and to strengthen the theoretical base necessary for supporting sound decision making. It provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and the presentation of new developments in theory and application, wherever engineering and technology meet the managerial and economic environment in which industry operates. In character, the journal combines the high standards of a traditional academic approach with the practical value of industrial applications.Articles accepted need to be based on rigorous sound theory and contain an essential novel scientific contribution. Tracing economic and financial consequences in the analysis of the problem and solution reported, belongs to the central theme of the journal. Submissions should strictly follow the Guide for Authors of the journal.We are interested in publishing high quality survey and review papers in relevant domains. However, we stress that the hurdles for consideration of such papers are high. They must demonstrate a strong need, show that they are well-executed, and generate valuable insights. Survey and review papers must position themselves clearly in relation to existing related reviews and surveys in the field. Systematic reviews that merely describe publication patterns in a particular field are unlikely to be sent out for review for IJPE. All survey and review papers must show valuable critique of the field and new insights. Published by SMEManufacturing is undergoing major transformation due to the unforeseen challenges arising from the current trend of miniaturization, the emergence of new materials and the growing interaction between biologists and engineers to learn more from nature and living objects.Traditionally, a "top-down" approach has been used in manufacturing. Recently, engineers and scientists have begun exploring "bottom-up" approaches for manufacturing today's highly complex products. Further, these emerging processes are aimed to improve process efficiency and product quality.The aim of the Journal of Manufacturing Processes (JMP) is to exchange current and future directions of manufacturing processes research, development and implementation, and to publish archival scholarly literature with a view to advancing state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and encouraging innovation for developing new and efficient processes. The journal will also publish from other research communities for rapid communication of innovative new concepts. Published by SMEManufacturing Letters (MFGLET) is an online, rapid-publication journal providing a home for short, high-quality papers from the international academic and industry communities on important advances from all interdisciplinary research areas impacting manufacturing.The journal promotes an exchange of ideas and communicates significant developments of immediate interest to others engaged in formative research that contributes to progress in manufacturing techniques, models, processes, and systems.Original concise papers are encouraged describing new kinds of manufacturing based on new processes or materials, new concepts in manufacturing systems or enterprises, or novel ways to look at old problems and solutions in manufacturing that show promise. Papers merit acceptance, for example, by detailing the key elements of an emerging field of research, describing the potential of an experimental or theoretical improvement, or demonstrating a new contribution to practice or policy. Papers should not merely confirm or extend previous work.To meet a vital need to rapidly disseminate current scientific findings, Manufacturing Letters uses a streamlined review process. Papers are peer reviewed and (1) accepted as written or (2) rejected within four (4) weeks of submission. Rejected papers can be revised but must be resubmitted as new manuscripts.Papers are limited to 1500 words, not including the abstract, references, and a maximum of four (4) figures or tables. Papers must be original contributions, not simultaneously submitted elsewhere, previously published or scheduled to be published. The language of the journal is English.Emerging research communicated in Manufacturing Letters is presumed to be ongoing; therefore, authors are encouraged to submit a full-length journal paper to an appropriate publication outlet, such as the Journal of Manufacturing Systems or Journal of Manufacturing Processes .Manufacturing Letters is an official journal of SME, in cooperation with the North American Manufacturing Research Institution of SME (NAMRI/SME).
