Psychology of Sport and Exercise
An Official Journal of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC)Psychology of Sport and Exercise is an international forum for scholarly reports in the psychology of sport and exercise, broadly defined. The journal is open to the use of diverse methodological approaches. To be considered for publication, manuscripts must make a substantive theoretical or methodological contribution. Manuscripts that will be considered for publication include results from high quality empirical research, reviews, meta-analyses, reports of professional practice (which need to demonstrate academic rigour and go beyond mere description), registered reports, and commentaries concerning already published PSE papers. Authors should adhere to recognised reporting guidelines for research (e.g., PRISMA guidelines for reviews and meta-analyses; TIDieR guidelines for interventions; CONSORT statement for randomised trials). Registered reports undergo a two-phase review process in which study rationale and methodology are considered prior to the research being undertaken. Authors are welcome to pre-register their study with an external organization (e.g. OSF), but it is not required. Authors interested in submitting replications of published studies need to contact the Editors-in-Chief before they start their replication. Quantitative studies should be theoretically informed and empirical research justified with a-priori power estimates provided (drawing on effects sizes from previous meta-analyses and/or specific papers with designs close to the one authors use). Qualitative studies should address the ontological/epistemo... position and methodological rigour of the study. We are not interested in manuscripts that aim to test the psychometric properties of an existing scale from English to another language, unless new validation methods are used which address previously unanswered research questions.Additional information If you wish to contact one of the Editors-in-Chief for any reason, (e.g. becoming a reviewer, interest in joining editorial board, issue about journal policy) please email the Editors-in-Chief. All manuscripts should be presented as concisely as possible. Authors should consider making available some of their material as supplementary electronic material to keep the overall page limit around 30 pages (8000 words) including references, tables, and figures. If manuscripts are mixed-methods, multiple experiments, complex designs, or include large tables and data sets (qualitative and/or quantitative), authors are requested to provide more information about their rationale for a longer page length (more than 8000 words) for their paper during the review process (e.g., in the cover letter to the Editors). The editorial team will then decide on the appropriateness of a longer page length when considering the submission. All submissions are screened by one of the editors before they are sent out for review to assess their suitability for the journal. Hence, there is no need to contact the editors prior to submission. The editors will also consider short communications for publication and such submissions should be a maximum of 15 pages including abstract (150 words max), main text, references, tables, and figures. Progress in Lipid Research
Publishing Invited ReviewsThe importance of lipids as one of the fundamental classes of biological compounds is well established. The application of our of the biochemistry, chemistry and physiology of lipids to biotechnology, the fats and oils industry and medicine have continued to expand apace. In addition new dimensions such as lipid biophysics, especially with relevance to membranes and lipoproteins, and basic liposome research and applications have been added. To cope with all these advances in knowledge a journal is needed to review recent progress in particular fields and to set current research against its historical background. Progress in Lipid Research fulfils this role.Each volume contains up-to-date surveys of special aspects of lipid research. The invited reviews are comprehensive enough to provide sufficient overview but concentrate on reporting and critically appraising the most recent data. Subjects are chosen for their timeliness or because major developments have taken place in the last few years. They include methodological reviews as well as chemical, biochemical and medical articles. All lipid compounds and derivatives are covered, ranging from fatty acids and other simple molecules, through steroids, terpenoids and phospho- or glycolipids to complex structures such as lipoproteins and biological membranes. We hope that those whose main interest is in lipid biophysics and liposome research will join as new readers, benefiting from the journal's classical aspects of lipid metabolism, lipids in signal transduction and lipid enzymology, and that current readers will benefit from the exposure to top quality research on the new aspects.PLR solely publishes review articles, and submissions are by invitation only. Trends in Neuroscience and Education aims to bridge the gap between our increasing basic cognitive and neuroscience understanding of learning and the application of this knowledge in educational settings. It provides a forum for original translational research on using systems neuroscience findings to improve educational outcome, as well as for reviews on basic and applied research relevant to education.Just as 200 years ago, medicine was little more than a mixture of bits of knowledge, fads and plain quackery without a basic grounding in a scientific understanding of the body, and just as in the middle of the nineteenth century, Hermann von Helmholtz, Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke, Emil Du Bois-Reymond and a few others got together and drew up a scheme for what medicine should be (i.e., applied natural science), we believe that this can be taken as a model for what should happen in the field of education. In many countries, education is merely the field of ideology, even though we know that how children learn is not a question of left or right political orientation.Contrary to the skeptics (who claim that "brain science […] is not ready to relate neuronal processes to classroom outcomes ", Cf. Hirsh-Pasek K, Bruer JT, 2007), we believe that we know today more about the neuroscience of learning than Helmholtz et al. back then knew about the body. In fact, from our perspective very little was known, as cellular pathology, microbiology and pharmacology hardly existed as domains of scientific investigation, let alone as tools for physicians. But the very idea - medicine is applied science - caught on and led to unprecedented and dramatic improvements in medicine.In our view, this is precisely what we must do in order to make progress in education. "You claim all learning is taking place in the brain. If that's so, which type of preschool is most effective? " - From a medical perspective, it is obvious that a neuroscientist cannot answer such questions alone. But it is just as clear that the answers will come from research informed by developmental cognitive neuroscience. Trends in Neuroscience and Education will foster activities on the translational research that is needed.Neuroscience is to education what biology is to medicine and physics is to architecture. Biochemistry is not enough to cure a patient, and physics is not enough to build a bridge. But you cannot perform great work, neither in medicine nor in architecture, against the laws of physics or biology.
