Research in Veterinary Science is an international, multidisciplinary journal publishing novel original research and high-impact reviews of the highest scientific and ethical standards across all aspects of veterinary and comparative biomedical research. The journal aims to advance veterinary science by disseminating significant scientific discoveries that improve the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and control of animal diseases, while promoting veterinary education and the One Health concept.

The journal welcomes high-quality research spanning basic, translational and clinical veterinary sciences, including comparative medicine, infectious and zoonotic diseases, epidemiology, pathology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, toxicology, physiology, animal welfare, nutrition, diagnostic sciences, surgery, internal medicine, reproduction, veterinary education and professional practice. Submissions should address important scientific questions, demonstrate methodological rigor, and provide findings that are broadly relevant to veterinary medicine and comparative biomedical research.

Studies lacking novelty, scientific rigor or broad relevance are not appropriate for the journal. This includes preliminary or descriptive studies, poorly designed or inadequately controlled investigations, research with limited generalisability beyond a local setting, routine case reports that do not substantially advance scientific knowledge, and production-focused nutrition or zootechnical studies aimed solely at improving commercial performance. While systematic reviews and meta-analyses are encouraged, the journal publishes only a limited number of high-impact narrative reviews.
