Request a sales quoteMolecular Genetics and Metabolism is the official journal of the Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders, dedicated to advancing the understanding of inborn metabolic diseases and metabolic dysfunction in Mendelian conditions, through innovative research in molecular genetics and metabolic pathways.
The journal publishes high-quality original full-length research articles, short communications and reviews, studied in human patients, animal models, cellular systems, and computational frameworks. The journal does not consider case reports, which should be directed to the companion title, Molecular Genetics and Metabolism Reports.
Molecular Genetics and Metabolism spans the fundamental, translational, and clinical research domains.
The journal considers articles on the following topics:
Fundamental mechanisms of inherited metabolic diseases:
Studies on pathophysiology in inborn metabolic disease,
Molecular mechanisms of enzyme function and dysfunction in metabolic processes,
Mechanistic studies of disease at the cellular and biochemical levels,
Investigations into mitochondrial function and its role in inherited metabolic disorders,
Studies on cellular metabolism, including bioenergetics and metabolic flux,
Genetic and epigenetic mechanisms influencing metabolic pathways,
Crosstalk between metabolic pathways using multi-OMICS technologies, including proteomics, metabolomics, etc,
Innovations in experimental techniques, such as gene editing,
Study of metabolic dysfunction in congenital disorders,
Bioinformatics and computational models.
Translational and clinical investigations:
Advances in metabolic engineering, gene therapy, and personalized medicine; evaluation of novel therapeutic approaches.
Clinical trials and longitudinal studies assessing the outcomes of early intervention and treatment strategies.
Novel methods in newborn screening and their validated results.
Diagnosis of Inherited Metabolic Diseases, including validation of new diagnostic approaches.
Definition of new phenotypes and description of novel genetic disorders
Patient-centered research focusing on the management, quality of life and healthcare needs.
Clinical guidelines and treatment protocols for IMDs.
Studies primarily focused on acquired metabolic conditions, such as metabolic syndrome, obesity, lifestyle-associated metabolic disorders, non-inherited cancers, or other multifactorial metabolic diseases, are outside the scope of the journal.
Authors are also welcome to submit to the journal's gold open access companion title, Molecular Genetics and Metabolism Reports, which welcomes, in addition to case reports, brief research articles, sequence reports, and letters to the editors.
