Description

The Journal of Sports Medicine, Animal Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing the science and clinical practice of equine and canine sports medicine, rehabilitation, and performance. The journal serves as a platform for veterinarians, physiotherapists, researchers, and allied health professionals to share original research, clinical advancements, and innovations that promote the health, recovery, and athletic performance of animal patients.

Submissions are welcomed across a broad range of topics including:

  • Sports Medicine and Injury Prevention in horses and dogs, including diagnostics, treatment strategies, conditioning, and return-to-work guidelines

  • Rehabilitation Sciences, encompassing original research on rehabilitation protocols, therapeutic exercise, pain mitigation strategies, and technologies supporting recovery

  • Biomechanics and Performance of the horse, dog, and rider, including studies on movement analysis, wearable technologies, kinetic and kinematic evaluations to inform injury prevention, therapeutic intervention, and performance optimization

  • Equine-Assisted Services: Research related to equine-assisted activities and therapies, including studies evaluating animal outcomes, welfare, and well-being in service settings

  • Human–Animal Interaction, with an emphasis on animal-assisted services and the psychological and physical benefits of human–animal engagement for all species

  • Horse–Rider Interaction: Studies exploring the dynamic relationship between horse and rider, including effects on equine biomechanics, training outcomes, and rider asymmetry

  • Innovative Approaches in Therapy: Evaluation of novel technologies and alternative therapies used in animal rehabilitation and sports medicine

  • Case Studies and Clinical Techniques: Practical insights from the field, including evidence-informed treatment protocols and rehabilitation case reports

While the journal’s primary focus is on animal health and outcomes, we also welcome interdisciplinary studies that include human-focused measures, especially when examining the mutual benefits of human–animal interactions in therapeutic and performance contexts.

The Journal of Sports Medicine, Animal Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy aims to advance interdisciplinary collaboration by integrating veterinary medicine, animal physiotherapy, and the expanding field of animal-assisted services.

The journal welcomes high-quality submissions including original research articles, systematic reviews, clinical reports, short communications, special issue proposals, and expert perspectives that contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the care, performance, and welfare of animal athletes and therapeutic partners.
