Description

Gene Reports publishes research that advances understanding of genes and gene systems across all biological systems, including prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and viruses. The journal provides a forum for studies that contribute to the discovery, characterization, and functional interpretation of genes and genetic elements and their roles in biological processes, phenotypes, and diseases.

The journal publishes original research articles, short communications, methods papers, resource reports, and reviews that provide new insights or valuable data relevant to gene and genome research.

Topics considered for publication span diverse areas of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, including but not limited to

  • Molecular genetics and gene biology, including gene structure, regulation, expression, and function, as well as engineered and synthetic genetic systems

  • Genome biology and genomics, including genome organization, chromatin architecture, comparative genomics, pangenomics, and genomore evolution

  • Genetic variation, populations, and evolution, including population genetics, evolutionary genetics, and studies of genetic variation and diversity across organisms

  • Genes in biological processes and disease, including signaling pathways, cellular and

physiological responses, and molecular mechanisms underlying human and organismal disease

  • Functional genomics and integrative approaches, including studies combining transcriptomic, epigenetic, proteomic, or other large-scale data with biological interpretation

  • Computational and statistical approaches to gene and genome analysis, including studies using machine learning, provided they are supported by experimental validation or yield clear biological insight

Submissions may involve any biological system and may range from studies of individual genes and regulatory elements to analyses of pathways, networks, and genome-scale datasets. In addition to hypothesis-driven research, Gene Reports also considers descriptive, confirmatory, and resource-generating studies when they offer sound data and contribute useful knowledge or reference resources to the genetics community.

Gene Reports is a companion journal to Gene and a member of the Gene Family, including Human Gene and Plant Gene, providing a broad and inclusive forum for research that expands knowledge of genes, genetic variation, and gene function across biological systems.
