The European Journal of Cancer (EJC) publishes high-quality research that advances cancer medicine and patient care. It integrates clinical, translational, preclinical, digital and population-based research, from epidemiology and the biology of cancer through to innovations in cancer treatment and patient care.

EJC focuses on the following main cancer research domains:

• Clinical cancer medicine, including clinical trials from early-phase to phase IV, and real-world data studies in large cohorts

• Clinical-translational cancer research

• Preclinical-translational research

• Digital cancer medicine, from diagnostics to digital patient care innovations

• Cancer epidemiology

• Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) studies

• Cancer policy

Within its digital oncology scope, the journal welcomes high-quality studies on artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational imaging and pathology, digital biomarkers, real-world data, electronic health record-based research, digital therapeutics, clinical decision support, large language models and other digital health applications relevant to cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and patient care. The journal prioritises digital and AI studies that are clinically grounded, methodologically robust, transparently reported and appropriately validated, and that consider generalisability, reproducibility, patient safety, privacy, equity and potential sources of bias.

EJC does not accept basic science papers. Preclinical studies are considered where they are translational, with clear relevance to clinical application.

The journal publishes original research, reviews, current perspectives, editorial comments and correspondence.

The EJC is the official journal of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA).
