Coverage includes, but is not limited to, the following broad research topics:
1) Environmental Health and Risk Assessment, Environmental Chemistry (Prof. Adrian Covaci)
2) Public Health and Health Impact Assessment, Environmental Epidemiology (Prof. Mark Nieuwenhuijsen)
3) Environmental Change, Toxicology, and Health (Prof. Frederic Coulon)
In particular, the following specific topics are welcome (see below a non-exhaustive list), as long as they have strong environmental and public health applicability and relevance and/or if they discuss 'interactions between the environment and humans' in the broadest sense.
1) Environmental Health and Risk Assessment, Environmental Chemistry (Prof. Adrian Covaci)
The section overseen by Prof. Covaci covers novel topics related to
- environmental and health risk assessment, modelling and impact of chemicals of emerging concern on human exposure and human exposome
- novel and innovative approaches for human biomonitoring, human exposome and environmental health-related "omics", for a broad range of Persistent Organic Pollutants, Endocrine Disruptors and Emerging Contaminants, including microplastics.
- evaluation of source apportionment, exposure, fate, bioavailability, toxicity, and biotransformation of environmental and food contaminants
- innovative research investigating the link between environmental health and human health and their input on chemicals policy and regulations
- research that develops innovative technologies related to chemical exposure, air and water quality, addressing key limitations of existing technologies and/or demonstrating real-world applications relevant to environmental and public health
2) Public Health and Health Impact Assessment, Environmental Epidemiology (Prof. Mark Nieuwenhuijsen)
The section overseen by Prof. Nieuwenhuijsen covers novel topics related to
- exposure assessment, epidemiology and health impact of indoor and outdoor air quality, noise, green space, temperature and other environmental external exposures
- assessment and health effects and impacts of urban and transport planning and the built environment
- innovative research on women, children, migrants and the elderly as specific and vulnerable sub-populations
- health effects and impacts of climate change and climate action with specific reference to sustainable development, including planetary health and urban health
3) Environmental Change, Toxicology, and Health (Prof. Frederic Coulon)
The section overseen by Prof. Coulon focuses on
- environmental and human health consequences of ecosystem disturbance and environmental change
- interdisciplinary research investigating the mechanisms that govern contaminant transformation, persistence, and toxicity in terrestrial and aquatic systems under anthropogenic and climatic pressures.
- studies investigating how biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation intersect with chemical exposure, ecological toxicity, and impacts on human health
Additionally, we strongly support the submission of systematic reviews, evidence synthesis methods and narrative reviews related to environmental and public health relevant topics
Environment International is a fully open access journal for which the authors need to pay an APC. Once published, your article will be immediately and permanently available for readers to read, download, and share.
Full guidance about how to submit your special issue proposal can be found here.
Please DO NOT ask the Editors-in-Chief for permission before submitting a research paper. Kindly check the guidelines to determine whether your manuscript is within the scope of the journal; if yes, please go ahead and submit it.
