The journal stimulates the exchange and sharing of knowledge and best practice in energy strategy planning and implementation, preferably based on quantitative studies that advance the use of energy systems modelling tools.

A research paper submitted to ESR needs to fulfil 3 essential requirements:
The energy topic must be a direct core element of the paper. It cannot be addressed indirectly via environment or the like.
The paper must have an element of strategy in it, such as including historical analysis providing a future perspective, having policy relevant in the context of SDG7/Green transition or Providing data or evidence relevant for future strategies.
The paper must have a significant review element of the subject into consideration, followed by a research component in the form of critique, comparison or analysis of the subject.
This journal welcomes contributions that support and advance the UN's sustainable development goals, in particular SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy).
