From the 1st January 2020, the Comptes Rendus de l'Academie des Sciences will be published by the Centre Mersenne for Open Scientific Publishing (https://www.centre-mersenne.orghttps://www.centre-mersenne.org) for Mathematique, Physique, Mecanique, Chimie, Geoscience and Biologies journals, and by the Museum national d'Histoire Naturelle (https://www.mnhn.frhttps://www.mnhn.fr) for Palevol.

The end of 2019 sees the conclusion of the long and rewarding collaboration between Elsevier and the French Academie des Sciences. After 23 years, and effective 1 January 2020, Elsevier will no longer publish the seven Comptes Rendus of the Academie des Sciences. The journals will be published by the CNRS' Centre Mersenne (http://www.centre-mersenne.org). This has been announced already few weeks ago, and more details can be found in the news section of the journals' home pages.

The long collaboration between the Academie des Sciences and Elsevier has been both valuable and productive. It has been a great opportunity for Elsevier to contribute to the development of the Comptes Rendus: their publishing quality; their global visibility (with more than 8 million ScienceDirect downloads just in the past ten years); and, most importantly, our shared vision concerning the value of open access as an important new currency in today's scientific dissemination. We are proud to have facilitated a diamond open access model for French authors from 2015 to the present: authors based in French institutions (composing ~75% of authors in the Comptes Rendus) have published their work open access for no fee since 2015, while authors based outside France saw their papers made freely available after three years as part of the Elsevier Open Archive initiative. As part of this, Elsevier will make the volumes of the Comptes Rendus published between 2002 and 2019 open and accessible on ScienceDirect for all readers.

It has been a privilege to be part of the mutually respectful and positive relationship between Elsevier and the Academie de Sciences. The Elsevier team involved with the publication of the Comptes Rendus have been proud to promote one of the most important institutional voices of French science across the world. We want to thank the team at the Academie de Sciences and the Editors of the Comptes Rendus for their support and partnership over the last 23 years and to wish them well as they enter a new era.
