Description

CIRP, the International Academy for Production Engineering, was founded in 1951 to advance all aspects of manufacturing science and technology through scientific research. Today, CIRP's mission is to foster research, innovation, and collaboration in production engineering among its members from academia and industry, contributing to environmentally sustainable global prosperity and the well-being of society.

The CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology, published since 1960, is a leading journal dedicated to disseminating high-quality, state-of-the-art research in manufacturing science and technology. Through concise and rigorously reviewed contributions, it seeks to define and advance the frontiers of production engineering. The journal provides a premier platform for the communication of outstanding research and emerging knowledge to the CIRP community as well as the broader international scientific and industrial audience, while upholding the highest standards of scientific rigor and excellence.

The scientific scope of the CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology is organized according to the Scientific Technical Committees (STCs) of CIRP, covering a broad spectrum of production engineering research. These areas include design theory and methodology; manufacturing processes, systems and networks; assembly and robotics; machining, abrasive, forming, additive, hybrid, and non-traditional manufacturing processes; machine tools, robots, and other machine systems; quality control as well as precision engineering, metrology, and surface characterization. The scope further encompasses sustainable and societally conscious production systems, life-cycle engineering and circular economy. The journal is open also to submissions about emerging manufacturing technologies ranging from additive manufacturing to nano- and (close-to) atomic-scale manufacturing and biomanufacturing. Submissions reporting the latest advances in the digitalization of manufacturing, including the application of artificial intelligence across all aspects of production engineering, are also welcome.

From 2026 onward, CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology accepts submissions from researchers without a CIRP affiliation for Issues 3–6 each year, while maintaining its strong ties to CIRP through a rigorous peer review process overseen by CIRP members.
