Description

CEJ: Engineered Materials aims to publish papers that combine novelty in materials design and/or processing toward a particular application goal, the practical demonstration of one or more applications of that material, and the demonstrated or feasible scalability and/or manufacturability of the material that would enable real-world translation of the material for use in its targeted application. Novelty in material design may include the design of new chemical entities and/or new artificial intelligence, machine learning, and/or statistical optimization approaches for informing material design, although any paper considered must include practical experimental validation.

While papers demonstrating any application of a material will be considered, we particularly welcome research articles and review papers in the following application areas:

· Electrochemical energy storage materials (primary and secondary batteries, flow batteries, supercapacitors, dielectric capacitors)

· Thermal/thermochemical energy storage or conversion materials (phase change materials, energy storage materials, thermoelectric devices)

· Electromagnetic shielding and electronics packaging materials

· Materials for fuel cells and electrochemical cells

· Piezoelectric and triboelectric materials (piezoelectric nanogenerators, triboelectric nanogenerators)

· Photocatalytic/electrocatalytic materials (water splitting, nitrogen fixation, CO2 reduction)

· Electrocatalytic materials (water splitting, hydrogen/oxygen evolution)

· Light-emitting, filtering, and detection materials (LEDs/OLEDs, photodetectors, optical thermometry, electrochromic materials)

· Solar cell/solar conversion materials

· Thermal management materials

· Explosive and propellant materials

· Sensor materials (chemical sensors, electrochemical sensors, optical sensors) –small molecule sensors without a corresponding material component will not be considered within the journal scope

· Wearable electronics materials (stain sensors, human-computer interface materials)

· Actuating and self-healing materials

· Fire safety/fire alarm materials

· Adhesives

· Anti-corrosion coating materials

· Superhydrophilic/superhydrophobic materials (anti-icing, self-cleaning, anti-adhesion, anti-fouling)

· Lubricating materials

· Materials for biomedical applications (implants, delivery systems, tissue scaffolds, wound healing, provided validation of performance is achieved via a relevant in vivo or advanced ex vivo tissue model)

· Anti-pathogen materials

· Materials for enhancing agricultural outputs (soil conditioners, renewable mulch films or other protective materials, and cellular/soilless agriculture/food production)

· Separations materials for (bio)manufacturing applications (membranes, sorbents, molecularly imprinted materials)

· Food packaging and preservation materials
